VIDEO: Eddie Howe planning TWO more signings but third striker may not be possible

Eddie Howe has revealed that he’d “love to bring in two players” before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1st.

It’s not clear if this is two players plus Tino Livramento – who is expected to seal a move from Southampton over the weekend – or two players including the 20-year-old full-back.

Speaking in today’s press conference, the boss was also asked if he’s looking to bring in a third striker, given Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are our only recognised options up top. Howe feels it’s not an area we are able to strengthen due to the “transfer fees associated with the players in that position”, saying a move for another striker looks to be “beyond our capabilities at this current time.”

However, he feels Anthony Gordon could fill in up front if needed – something he did impressively at the U21 Euros with England this summer. As a result, it’s likely that we spend the remainder of the window focusing on the defence, with a right-sided centre-back set to become the top priority once Livramento signs, as we reported yesterday.

Watch Howe’s comments on potential incomings below:

“Ideally, I’d love to bring in two players. But let’s wait and see – there’s no guarantees on that.

“I don’t think we have a bigger squad than last year. If anything we have a leaner squad.

“I don’t think necessarily that is a problem. We have more games so hopefully everybody should feel more involved and have more opportunities to play.

“Certainly we will need everybody. Last year the the majority of players got a chance to play and contribute to our success.”

“I said leaner, there’s not a negative connotation to that. We don’t want to carry a huge squad.

“We want everyone in the squad to feel like they have a part to play. We have to the various competitions to play so need to be robust enough to deal with that challenge.

“Let’s see what happens but maximum a couple of players, let’s wait and see.”
