Newcastle announce two loan moves as Garang Kuol and England U18 talent depart – Official

Newcastle United have announced that Garang Kuol has joined Eredivisie side FC Volendam for the 2023/24 season, ‘subject to necessary approvals’.

After arriving from Australia earlier in the year and spending the second half of last season with Hearts, the forward has sealed a season-long loan move, joining fellow Mag Yankuba Minteh in the Netherlands following his temporary switch to Feyenoord.

FC Volendam finished in 14th in the Eredivisie last term and will hopefully offer the 18-year-old Aussie far more first-team minutes than he receive at Hearts.

Elsewhere, highly-rated goalkeeper Max Thompson has also left the club on loan, joining League One side Northampton Town until January 2024.

The 19-year-old is an England U18 international. After three years on Tyneside, let’s hope the young goalkeeper can benefit from some much needed minutes at senior level ahead of his first loan spell away from St James’ Park.
