New CB option emerges for Newcastle as close friend of Kieran Trippier’s becomes available

According to The Chronicle, Harry Maguire is available on loan and could emerge as a late option for Newcastle United.

The club have been in the market for a new right-sided centre-back all summer, but our need for another may increase should Sven Botman face a spell on the sidelines following his ankle injury on Sunday.

As revealed by The Mail yesterday, it’s hoped that the Dutchman hasn’t suffered anything serious. However, Maguire’s availability on loan could alert Eddie Howe given our prior interest, his experience at Premier League level and ability to play on the left or right side of defence.

The Chronicle state that the player’s wages would ‘not be a problem’ for Newcastle, adding that he’s also close friends with current Mag Kieran Trippier. West Ham agreed a £30m deal last month and are now exploring a loan move themselves, so we may need to move quickly.

If it was a long-term addition, I’m sure we’d be looking at younger and more exciting alternatives to Maguire – who has endured a couple of tough years at Old Trafford – but I wouldn’t be surprised to see us explore a move if bad news came back on Botman.

  1. Holy **** I hope not, I hope signing criteria is not based on who he is a mate of.

Maguire is useless and we don’t need to see him ever at St James unless he is playing against us and then happy days for our forwards 😂

  2. I’d take him tomorrow, Eddie would reignite his career, how ever it means doing business with Man Utd and that’s a non starter.
