Gareth Southgate snubs Newcastle duo but two Mags called up – Official England squad

The England squad has been announced ahead of games Ukraine and Scotland over the upcoming international break.

Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier have both been called up, but Gareth Southgate has left Nick Pope out of his squad, opting for Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone instead alongside Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale. There’s no place for Anthony Gordon either, despite his strong start to the season.

Despite no starts in our opening three Premier League games, Wilson has beaten Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins to a call-up, while Chelsea’s Levi Colwill and Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah have also been selected.

The likes of Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips have made it – despite barely kicking a ball this season – as does Jordan Henderson following his move to the Saudi Pro League.

This comes after Elliot Anderson was handed his first call-up to the Scottish senior side on Monday, with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton also due to represent Brazil next month.
