Joelinton update arrives from Eddie Howe after injured Brazilian misses back-to-back games

Eddie Howe is hopeful Joelinton will be “back soon” after missing our last two games with a knee problem, believing it’s NOT a serious injury.

After our 1-0 win over Brentford last weekend, Howe admitted that the Brazilian would be missing for a “few weeks”, seeing him sit out our opening Champions League clash with AC Milan on Tuesday.

The boss admitted we missed his ball-winning skills and physical presence at the San Siro, but his comments suggest it won’t be too long until our midfield powerhouse returns to full fitness.

Joelinton is believed to have seen a knee specialist in Barcelona last weekend, however, he’s not back on Tyneside and will hopefully return to action ahead of schedule.

Speaking after the game, Howe spoke to TNT Sports about his absence:

“Yeah, Joe is a big player for us and has been for a number of months. Big, big personality. Big physical presence for us.

We missed his ball winning skills in the middle of the pitch. But hopefully he’ll be back soon. I don’t think this is a serious injury. But it’s enough obviously to keep him out currently.”
