Newcastle suffer setback in plans to build new training ground after £10m spend – Report

As reported by The Telegraph, Newcastle have suffered a setback in their plans to build a new training ground on a brand new site.

It’s been suggested behind the scenes that it could be at least a decade until we can finally move to a new location, with no final decision on where the site will be and no planning applications submitted.

The Parklands land close to the Racecourse, which is owned by the Reuben family, has been discussed as a potential site, but we are still just in the planning stages after a lack of progress there.

£10m has been spent improving the current Darsley Park base in Benton, which highlighted how far we were behind our Premier League rivals under the previous regime, but the club were eager for this to be a short term fix before moving to a new complex.

The new training ground will no doubt be hugely impressive and state-of-the-art – which can help attract new players and keep current ones happy – we’ll just have to be patient before we can reach the standard of some of the elite clubs in the world.
