Dan Ashworth a ‘huge fan’ of Championship star as Toon consider January bid – Report

According to Alan Nixon at The Sun, Newcastle are considering a January move for Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton.

It’s believed that we sent scouts to watch over the 19-year-old last week, with Dan Ashworth a ‘huge fan’ after showing interest in the England youth international over the summer.

Wharton, whose contract lasts until 2027, has already made ten senior appearances in the Championship this season and is attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

Manchester United, Brighton and Crystal Palace are also monitoring the youngster and could rival Newcastle for his signature in January.

It was believed that Newcastle couldn’t offer the teenager enough first-team minutes when we were initially interested over the summer, allowing him to play regularly in the second tier over the opening months of the 2023/24 season.

However, with Blackburn going through some financial troubles, it’s thought Newcastle could test their resolve in the new year with an offer for the England U19 international.
