The official UEFA Champions League Twitter account has revealed that Sandro Tonali recorded the fastest top speed of anyone in matchday two of the competition as Newcastle beat PSG 4-1.
The Italian reached a top speed of 35.5 km/h during Wednesday’s games, running faster than the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Marcus Rashford and Christin Pulisic.
He may not have been known for his speed during his time at AC Milan, but the midfielder is clearly no slouch and has it in his locker to burst past opposition players once he hits his stride.
In general, our midfield lacks pace, so it’s encouraging to see the Italian posting these numbers. Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes can run all day but aren’t quick, but the return of Joe Willock and Joelinton – who are closing in on comebacks – can add some extra dynamism to our engine room.
