Fabrizio Romano clears up Bruno Guimaraes rumours as ‘sources confirm’ Newcastle clause

Over the weekend, the Spanish media reported that a ‘secret clause’ existed in Bruno Guimaraes’ new contract that allowed Barcelona to sign the Brazilian for £56-£60m.

Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the matter, confirming those claims from Spain were false. He reports that there’s ‘no specific clause’ for Barcelona or any other club, insisting that only valid release clause stands at £100m.

It’s a slight concern that this exists, but does ensure that we’d receive a club-record fee for the 25-year-old should one of Europe’s top clubs come calling for the midfielder.

For now, Bruno seems committed to Newcastle and appears to be loving life on Tyneside. He’s adored by fans, is playing in the Champions League, shining in Europe’s top division and has become a regular in the Brazil national side. He also said ‘a lot more to come’ in a social media post reacting to his new deal, which runs until 2028.

However, the fact a £100m release clause has been added into his new deal suggests he does have one eye on a mega move in the future, with that fee seeming reasonable for a player of his calibre when the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo both cost in excess of this fee.
