Newcastle handed January transfer boost but three targets unlikely to sign – Report

According to Football Insider, Man City are prepared to sanction a January loan move for Kalvin Phillips following interest from Newcastle.

It’s believed a temporary move to Tyneside is seen as the ‘perfect solution’ for the player and club, with Eddie Howe keen to bring in a short-term replacement for Sandro Tonali and Phillips desperate for game time ahead of Euro 2024.

However, Football Insider also report that a big-money permanent move is unlikely in January due to our ongoing battle with FFP. They state that Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, Amado Onana at Everton and Man Utd’s Scott McTominay are all on our radar, but will be beyond our budget in the new year.

The signing of a new midfielder is thought to be a top priority. However, it seems we’re more likely to pursue a loan deal, saving the bulk of our spending for the summer of 2024.

With this in mind, Phillips could tick several boxes and appears to be a viable option if Man City really are prepared to loan him out.
