Newcastle in talks to sign Série A striker – Club want €20-25m – Reports

According to Brazilian media outlet UOL, Newcastle are in discussions with Santos over a potential move for young striker Marcos Leonardo.

Despite Santos sitting in 16th in Série A, Leonardo has netted 13 times in the league and has 21 in 42 games in all competitions, seeing him attract interest from a host of big clubs.

It’s believed that the Brazilian side ‘dream’ of selling the 20-year-old for €20-25m and that Newcastle have already made contact over a potential January deal.

Premier League Brasil also report on our growing interest, stating that Toon chiefs are exploring the conditions of a deal following informal talks. It’s believed there’s been no bid as of yet, but it’s a move that could make sense if we’re keen to sign a young striker to learn from and compete with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Both Lazio and Roma had been in discussions to sign the forward last summer, but with the club already losing two stars in Angelo and Deivid Washington, they decided to keep hold of him.

With a number of clubs expected to come in for the wonderkid, Newcastle may have to be quick if we wish to land the highly-rated Brazilian. After trying and failing to sign a few South American gems since new owners arrived, let’s hope we can strike a deal this time around.
