According to TNT Sports in Argentina, Newcastle United are one of three Premier League clubs ‘seriously considering’ a January move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ezequiel Palacios.
Leverkusen have enjoyed a tremendous start to the season, currently sitting top of the Bundesliga and their Europa League group, and it’s believed the Argentine international has gained a lot of admirers.
Newcastle are believed to be up against Manchester City and Aston Villa in the race for the World Cup winner, who is being watched closely ahead of the January window after the club lost Sandro Tonali to a 10-month suspension.
Despite only recently signing a new deal with the German side until 2028, it’s thought the player could be tempted by a move to the Premier League. However, Leverkusen have proved to be tough sellers in the past and often demand a premium for their prized assets.
We will have to stump up the cash if we our serious about signing the 25-year-old given his lengthy contract. Have we really got big bucks to spend in January and would a high-flying Leverkusen part with a key player in the middle of the season? Perhaps not, but he could be one to watch in 2024.
