Newcastle ‘in the mix’ for €60m defender set for big move in 2024 – Report

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Newcastle are ‘in the mix’ for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Gonçalo Inácio; who is fully expected to seal a ‘big transfer’ in 2024.

It was recently suggested that we weren’t willing to go all out for the highly-rated defender after sending scouts to watch the 22-year-old. However, A Bola insist we remain keen following long-term interest.

Several Premier League clubs are believed to also be monitoring Inacio alongside Real Madrid, who are also looking to sign a new centre-back in the new year.

Regardless of the competition for his signature, the Portuguese international recently signed a new deal, taking his release clause to €60m. A lower fee could be negotiated, but it’s believed Sporting aren’t willing to let him go for less.

With Sporting also losing defender Ousmane Diomande to AFCON in January, it could be a difficult month to sign Inacio, who has been linked with a potential move to St James’ Park over the past 18 months.
