Official update on extent of Miguel Almiron injury arrives from Paraguay

Miguel Almiron has withdrawn from international duty, with Paraguay releasing an official statement confirming the extent of his injury.

They confirm he’s suffered a grade one biceps femoris muscle injury and will now miss World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia over the break. So, it’s serious enough to keep him out and is only a ‘grade one’ injury, meaning it’s relatively minor, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be fit to face Chelsea a week on Saturday.

Miggy was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth, adding to our injury crisis and leaving us with no fit right winger with Jacob Murphy also out. Elsewhere, Callum Wilson has also withdrawn from England duty, as another hamstring issue will keep him out ‘a number of weeks’, according to Howe.

Here’s the statement from Paraguay, revealing the details of Newcastle’s medical report on Almiron:

“The medical team of the National Team communicates that, according to the report received from Newcastle United FC (Eng), the player Miguel Almirón suffered a grade 1 muscle injury to the femoral biceps of the right thigh, so he will not be able to be part of the next team qualifying.

“The Albirroja technical and medical team will provide constant monitoring of the footballer throughout this time, knowing his great importance to the group, on and off the field of play.

“The Paraguayan Football Association wishes Miguel Almirón a speedy recovery.”

  1. Other clubs who play in Europe are not being plagued with as many injuries as Newcastle are. Time for (the seemingly brainless and slow on the uptake to realise this) Eddie to rethink his training methods as its obviously too strenuous for 2 games a week.

  2. Exactly what I have been thinking. Burnt out and over trained. It has definitely got something to do with training. Fair enough, some of these are older players but just need to reign back on these pensioners ????????.

  3. All teams suffer players with muscle injuries didn’t have many issues last season so 2 players suspended not muscle related Anderson stress fracture wouldn’t say that’s muscle Burn back injury suffered in Aresnal match wouldn’t say that’s being over trained Barnes toe/foot wouldn’t say that’s muscle happend in a match Murphy dislocated shoulder happened in a match Targett admitted was a freak that happened in game time so leves Wilson who we all know will suffer injuries and Isak which I will admit that one does seem concerning so most are freak injuries or out of our control like Tonali so we were under trained with Bruce know over trained with Howe
