According to The Mirror, St James’ Park could host an England friendly at the end of the season ahead of the European Championships in Germany.
England have already booked in games against Brazil and Belgium next March, but two end-of-season friendlies look set to be pencilled in, with one set to take place at Wembley and the other at a separate venue.
It’s believed the FA have shortlisted St James’ Park as the second venue, with it over 18 years since we saw England on Tyneside. The last time we saw the national side at Newcastle was back in 2005, when Steven Gerrard and David Beckham scored in a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Azerbaijan.
The Three Lions booked their place last month after the win over Italy at Wembley, but their performances over the recent international break have been flat, with fans unimpressed by our 2-0 win over Malta and 1-1 draw at North Macedonia in midweek.
