Newcastle star appointed as director at boyhood club in preparation for retirement

Fabian Schar has announced that he’s joined FC Wil’s board of directors in a show of support to his boyhood club in Switzerland and place of birth.

The centre-back is aging like a fine win ahead of his 32nd birthday next month. He has plenty of years left in him if his performances under Eddie Howe are anything to go by, but he describes this move as the ‘perfect preparation for life after my football career.’

As things stand, the defender is out of contract at the end of the current 2023/24 season, although the club have an option to extend his deal by a further year and have been in talks over improved terms.

Here’s what Schar has had to say on his decision to join the second tier Swiss side , where he will ‘help shape the strategic paths of the club’:

“FC Wil 1900 is my childhood, youth and lifeblood club

“The fact that I can now help shape the strategic paths of the club is a perfect preparation for life after my football career.”

  1. At £4m, Fabian Schar has to be pound for pound one of NUFCs best ever signings.

Good for him planning for the future & if there can be any kind of collaboration with NUFC then we should absolutely make sure that happens.

But in the meantime, I hope he continues with NUFC for as long as possible because his performance levels are outstanding.
