Newcastle linked with Ligue 1 star & scouts spotted watching Champions League defender

With that January transfer window less than 10 days away, it’s no surprise to see Newcastle United linked with a host of new names.

Two who’ve been mentioned by the media over the past few days are Lille’s Jonathan David and versatile Red Bull Salzburg defender Amar Dedic.

Starting with David, Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb report that the Canadian star has been identified as a ‘top target’ for AC Milan – but their ‘biggest problem’ could be Newcastle after Toon chiefs have ‘tested the waters’ to see what it will take to sign the 23-year-old.

They add that Milan will not be able to compete with Newcastle from a financial perspective if we pursue the Ligue 1 forward, who has scored an impressive 52 goals across the past two and a half seasons in France. He will know Sven Botman well from their time together at Lille and has been watched in the past by Newcastle scouts.

As for Dedic, The Sun claim Newcastle scouts were in the stands to watch the Bosnian full-back in Salzburg’s last three Champions League games, also attending a few of his recent international appearances.

It’s believed Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter Milan and Barcelona are also keen on the highly-rated 21-year-old, who can operate anywhere across the back four but predominantly plays at full-back.
