Newcastle facing £7m dilemma and ‘concerns’ exist around January target – Report

According to The Mail, Newcastle United have been quoted a £7m loan fee for Kalvin Phillips; the Man City midfielder who has been identified as one of Eddie Howe’s top January targets.

Craig Hope reports that the club are currently reluctant to pay such a fee to have the 28-year-old for the second half of the season and hope City’s demands will reduce once the window opens.

If it doesn’t, there’ll be a big decision to make, especially with Juventus and a handful of other Premier League clubs keen on the England international.

Elsewhere, the report confirms that free agent goalkeeper David De Gea is ‘under consideration’, but there’s ‘concerns’ behind the scenes about his lack of game time over the past six months.

The 33-year-old Spaniard hasn’t played a competitive game since Man Utd’s FA Cup final defeat to Man City back in June and is likely demand huge wages.

With our exit from all European football seeing us miss out on the extra revenue on offer – reaching the last 16 of the Champions League was worth in the region of £15m – it’s also thought FFP restrictions remain and ongoing hurdle for the club to manage in January

  1. On the goalkeeper situation surly having him is better than Karius as his only game time was a defeat in the final last season and before that his last game was that awful one for Liverpool would of hoped the people writing articles should know this at least gosh
