Joelinton returns, Almiron benched and two Mags miss out - Team news vs Liverpool

The team sheets are in ahead of tonight’s 8pm kick-off at Anfield, where Newcastle United take on Liverpool in our opening game of 2024.

STARTING 11: Dubravka – Livramento, Schar, Botman, Burn (c) – Miley, Bruno, Longstaff – Gordon, Isak, Joelinton.

SUBS: Karius, Gillespie, Dummett, Lascelles, Ritchie, Krafth, Hall, Almiron, A.Murphy.

Joelinton replaces Miguel Almiron in attack and Tino Livramento comes back into the side. Jamaal Lascelles is back on the bench, but both Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson miss out entirely.

It looks like big Joe will play down the left, meaning Gordon on the right-hand side and a midfield three of Longstaff, Bruno and Miley. Burn keeps his place at the back in Trippier’s absence, Botman starts againd alongside Schar and Dubravka keeps his place in goal.

For the Reds, it’s Mo Salah’s last game before he leaves for AFCON, while Darwin Nunez leads the line. Hopefully he doesn’t have his shooting boots on tonight after his brace at St James’ Park earlier in the season.
