Bad news ahead of Sunderland vs Newcastle as Howe reveals more injury woes

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Callum Wilson will miss out ‘next two games’, meaning he’ll be forced to sit out Saturday’s trip to Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Kieran Trippier (groin) is also at risk of missing the Tyne and Wear derby this weekend, although the boss is hoping to have him back ‘pretty quickly’ after he too missed last night’s 4-2 defeat at Liverpool.

Both players picked up injuries in last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, adding to our long list of fitness concerns as we head into the second half of the 2023/24 season.

Speaking to the press after Monday’s loss at Liverpool, here’s what Howe had to say on both:

“Kieran’s got a groin problem, both injuries picked up against Nottingham Forest.

“We’re unsure how serious it is. We hope that we can get him back pretty quickly.

“Callum will be missing the next two games.”

Fingers crossed on Trippier, but it’s yet another injury for Wilson, who has already been ruled out of the trip to Sunderland and our home clash with Man City on Saturday 13th.
