Newcastle target Leeds star and £9m Everton defender under consideration – Report

According to a new report, Newcastle United are considering January moves for Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville and Everton’s Ben Godfrey.

According to an exclusive from Jacque Talbot at Football Transfers, both players have been discussed in recent recruitment meetings as the club prepare to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad this month.

Summerville wouldn’t come cheap after his 12 goals and six assists in 23 Championship appearances this season and has been watched closely by Newcastle scouts in recent weeks. He and Howe are represented by the same agent, who also oversaw deals for Harvey Barnes and Lewis Hall. However, it’s thought a deal would be ‘hard to do’ this window given his importance to Leeds’ promotion push,

As for Godrey, the report claims that his ability to play anywhere across the back four is admired by Howe, coupled with suggestions he could be available for around £9m.

The 25-year-old is out of contract next summer and has played just 91 minutes of Premier League football under Sean Dyche this season. While he may offer pace, experience and versatility, it’s hardly a move that will get fans excited heading into the New Year.

Summerville is a real talent and looks levels above the second tier, although I struggle to see Leeds selling their star man midway through their promotion push.

Interestingly, Talbot’s piece ends with this intriguing line on our spending power this month – ‘while Newcastle have briefed concerns over their hamstrung budget owing to Financial Fair Play constraints, we are told that the kitty is a lot more than what they have made out so far, in an attempt not to be priced out of deals.’

  1. Ben Godfrey would Definitely be a step Backwards and I think Lewis hall should be sent back to his former club.Howe needs to look at clubs elsewhere instead of England.I still say last season was a fluke for Howe!End of the road coming for Howe and Tindell.Hopefully!
