Premier League statement – Two clubs facing points deductions after breach of rules

Everton and Nottingham Forest are both facing points deductions after being charged by the Premier League with breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Everton were docked 10 points in November – a reminder of the risks facing all Premier League clubs that fail to comply – and it seems Nottingham Forest are also in bother; which is no real surprise after 30 new signings and few significant sales since promotion.

FFP an PSR have been a hot topic on Tyneside over the past week following our lack of January spending, along with Darren Eales’ sobering interview last week, which indicated how players trading will be key to boost future budgets.

Both clubs have been referred to an independent commission by the Premier League over breaches, leaving them at risk of fines and/or points deductions if proven guilty.

Here’s the Premier League’s official statement on the matter just moments ago:

The two clubs have each confirmed to the Premier League that they are in breach of the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules

Everton FC and Nottingham Forest FC have each confirmed to the Premier League that they are in breach of the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). This is as a result of sustaining losses above the permitted thresholds for the assessment period ending Season 2022/23.

In accordance with Premier League Rules, both cases have now been referred to the chair of the Judicial Panel, who will appoint separate Commissions to determine the appropriate sanction.

Commissions are independent of the Premier League and member clubs. The proceedings are heard in private with the Commissions’ final decisions made public on the Premier League’s website. The League will make no further comment until that time.
