Bayern chief speaks out on Kieran Trippier deal – Tells Sky Germany “it’s over”

Bayern Munich’s Sporting Director Christoph Freund has told the German media that Kieran Trippier will NOT be signing for them this month.

Speaking to Sky Germany on Wednesday night, he said – “Kieran Trippier deal is off. We only do what we are 100% convinced of.” He hinted that a deal for PSG’s Nordi Mukiele remains possible, but said added. “no, it’s over” when asked if they’d submit another bid.

There was conflicting reports today on Bayern’s current stance, with some suggesting a third bid was imminent and others reporting that they were ready to walk away from negotiations.

It seems the latter was true, as they not only failed with a ‘low-ball’ offer, but also saw a £12.8m bid turned down last night, with Newcastle United insisting that our vice captain was not for sale.

There’s still another week remaining in the January transfer window, but this should bring an end to the Trippier saga, for now at least. Some feel we should’ve cashed in now he’s approaching the final 12 months of his deal and turns 34 later this year, while others feel he’s a key player on and off the pitch and worth keeping while there’s still plenty to play for this season.
