According to Fabrizio Romano, former Newcastle United goalkeeper might be on his way back to the Premier League almost eight years on from his arrival on Tyneside.
He reports that Nottingham Forest have submitted an ‘official proposal’ worth €6/7m for the Belgian, who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
Sels joined Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle in the summer of 2016, signing from Belgian side KAA Gent ahead of our season in the Championship. However, he struggled to impress during his time at St James’ Park, quickly lost his place to Karl Darlow and joined Anderlecht on loan the following summer.
Since then, he’s had five seasons in France and has been a regular between the sticks for Strasbourg, where he’s taken the captains armband for the 2023/24 season.
Forest are in the market for a goalkeeper today and have also been linked with Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone, so it’ll be interesting to see if the former Toon stopper ends up signing at the City Ground before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
