It looks like Newcastle will be without Alexander Isak for upcoming league games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.
Eddie Howe stated after Saturday’s 4-4 draw with Luton that his groin problem wasn’t “too serious” and hoped to have the striker back “pretty soon”, but also told BBC Newcastle that he’s still expected to miss the next “couple of games.”
Asked about his fitness, Howe said: “He wasn’t close (to making squad vs Luton). We don’t think he’s got a serious injury but it might keep him out for a couple of games but hopefully we can get him back pretty quickly.”
With this in mind, it looks likely that he’ll return – at the earliest – for our trip to Arsenal at the end of the month, with our trip to the Emirates on Saturday 24th February followed by our FA Cup clash with Blackburn on Tuesday 27th.
In better news, it was great to see Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes back on Saturday, as they’ll be needed with Isak sidelined and Anthony Gordon managing a twisted ankle that saw him leave St James’ Park on crutches.
