According to a report from HITC’s Graeme Bailey, Newcastle are ready to raid their biggest rivals after becoming the favourites to sign Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg despite interest from elsewhere.
The 16-year-old has been tipped to have a huge future and made his debut in the FA Cup at just 15, going on to play eight games this season in the Championship and scoring once against Southampton.
It’s understood that Liverpool are also interested in the England youth international, but given Rigg and his family are big Newcastle fans they would favour a move closer to home.
Chelsea and Man United are another two sides who want to sign the teenager, so it would be a big coup for Newcastle to pull this off and attract one of England’s brightest young prospects.
It does look inevitable that Rigg leave Sunderland, especially if they fail to win promotion to the Premier League, and Newcastle should be all over it when he’s available.
