No way back for Barton?

Bye?!
The much publicised fall out between Joey Barton and the Newcastle owners continues to roll on via the medium of Joey Barton’s Twitter account.

In his latest outburst he has publicly criticised the transfer policy of the club after insisting that he will tell all when the time is right. He then went on to say that he had to be careful what he said as he is an employee still before reaffirming his desire to stay next season and bring a trophy to St James’ Park.

Now some will say fair enough about his comments. I do to an extent as everyone has the right to an opinion. However I do think all of these comments make any form of reconciliation seem increasingly more unlikely as time wears on.

Yes, as strange as it sounds, there is still time for this all to be sorted out, but it will take a bit of sway from all parties involved, especially the club, for something to be sorted out. Will the club be willing to sway in the future for someone who is being so openly critical of them?

Rightly or wrongly, Joey’s words will have repercussions. They may strike a chord with fans at the moment and some may feel reassured that there is a critical voice within the club, but realistically what is it going to achieve?

It’s a disaster in all honesty. They bloke who convinced Joey to get Twitter needs to be shot as it was only ever going to end up going in one direction. It took what, three or four days for it to end up going in that direction. Marvellous.

After being openly critical towards the club it is unlikely that those in power will make any effort to keep Barton. Why should they? I mean I never heard Barton, or McKay for that matter, moan for the three years previously whilst us fans were being treated to the dark side of Joey Barton. It’s all in the past of course and Barton does at least seem to have turned a corner, but could this be a case of his past coming back to haunt him in his own doorstep?

Perhaps getting Joey Barton onto Twitter was not the brightest idea. The lad is a straight-talker no doubt, but it’s clear to see that diplomacy is not his forte. I’m not saying that Barton should put up and shut up, but he is running the very real risk of turning what is supposed to be an outlet between fan and player into a bitter dialogue about his current employers.

Can anyone really see any good coming of it?

  1. Axel, Aye possibly. I think if anyone isn’t banging them in (when played between those two) then they arn’t a CF. I don’t think Sow is that great but he’s scored a bucket load next to Gervinho.

I don’t think Gervinho would score all that many, he is just there to be an artist. Ben Arfa scores and creates.

  2. DJG-Think you’d be surprised though, Gerviniho has scored a hell of a lot more goals than Arfa has in Ligue 1

  4. That to me looked like a good bye from Cabaye. Most of his teammates came to greet him, the fans sang his name and he seemed to look emotional. All good signs regarding his potential transfer to the toon.

I was watching for that, he was just about to come off and the ******* link went. Cheers for confirming it.

  6. I was more than happy passing on that information DJG.

Not sure if I’m the only one but only heard during the game that Gervinho has one year left on his contract. It may make it harder for us to sign him but we’ve go to go all out to try and get him. I was impressed with both Cabaye and Gervinho today. Anyways lad, I’m off. Let’s hope the week ahead brings our first signing.

@mclloyd10 That seems to be the idea. Cabaye looks like being on €3.6m a year at Newcastle.

      (Quote)

  9. Aye Batty I seen that, so he is saying he will be on 70k euros per week? That can’t be true.

      (Quote)

  10. Thats about 60k a week!

Not too sure about getting Gervinho though. Think he may have a CL club in for him. I think i’d rather have Nzogbia anywsy.

      (Quote)

  11. cabaye a good signing, can’t see the 70k a week being true tho, hopefully gervinho thru the door next closely followed by gameiro

      (Quote)

  12. So we’re giving him more than Barton is supposedly wanting…hope the club know what they’re doing like, he didn’t do anything stand out for me tonight.

      (Quote)

  13. Sorry lads, but I seriously can’t see either Gameiro or Gervinho coming here.

  14. If his wages are anything near what is being said now, we better hope to christ that “Second Season Syndrome” doesn’t get us like it did with Birmingham.

Those wages are trouble waiting to happen really.

To the tune of ‘I fought the law’-

Kickin’ balls in the hot sun,
I fought the Mike and the Mike won,

I wanted four years coz I got one,
I fought the Mike and the Mike won,

Me and Smithy keepin the bench warm,
I fought the Mike and the Mike won.

I actually had him and Jose down for another Clash tune the other day, “Should I stay or Should I go”

    Can’t remember it now though…

Sorry Moreno it’s a habit of doing AS English!

      (Quote)

  28. cabaye said so in an interview with french media directly after their game against rennes, gervinho also said he’s off to england, but he didnt say to which club

      (Quote)

  29. Oh, that answers my question then, what a stupid thing to do. Though Dempsey would be a great signing if we could get him

  30. I see that the BBC have put an article about Barton’s comments on twitter about him wanting to stay. Has he got himself into more trouble?

His latest tweet says he has to catch a plane in the morning, anyone else find that suspicious?

  32. His latest tweet says he has to catch a plane in the morning, anyone else find that suspicious?

Nah, he’s out and about with his mates and playing horsies at the races, he probably catches planes all the time, he’s on holiday.

    You say;

BSN9- happy with our signing? or does it upset that Ashley has spent money?

    I say;
I’ve always maintained we will make purchases this window but unless we hold onto our blue chip players then it becomes fruitless.

    Cabaye may replace Barton.
Cabaye is unproven yet Barton is a leader and a proven premiership player. He seems to have turned the corner.

I don’t get excited by the links to certain players because its the same every window. There will be good players bought but players will leave and as per normal, at the end of the window we will all reflect and say , well that was exciting but we are no better off, if not worse.

In fact, I don’t get excited like most cos I learn from history .

Cabaye, better than Barton? Who knows?

I wanted to see Barton stay and build on our weaknesses. Strikers and wingers.
    😕

      (Quote)

  34. Batty he could be or like Jobey said he could be out with his mates playing horsies. You never know

Really pleased that we have got Cabaye, when do you think the club will confirm it? Will we have to wait ages or will Pardew come out and say the deal is done

      (Quote)

  35. If Gerviniho was coming here with cabby then surely it would have been slightly more obvious, especially as its been touted he’s joining “an english club” still, can hold out for hope’s sake.

      (Quote)

  36. He’s only just played his last game for Lille. 😕 I doubt they will confirm it till at least Tue. BH tomorow. Knowing newcastle it will probably be late next week.

      (Quote)

  37. It would be fooking great if they confirmed Cabaye and Gervinho in the same piece. That would make a few heads turn. Really hope we get Gervinho like, although Cabaye looks a good international and good value.

      (Quote)

  38. If he is as good as people say, it’s a fooking steal and credit has to goto the club for it

      (Quote)

  39. Yeah if Gervinho did come as well and then the club confirmed them both at once then that would be a statement of intent for next season.

      (Quote)

  40. Jose on twitter saying don’t want to talk much, but contract is out of my hands and down to the club, much love to everyone.

Well Cabaye is getting in the france squad and has just won the league at his club. I know Barton probably should be in the England squad. The France squad is better than the England squad though I would say. Cabaye is quite similar, good range of passing. Slightly better from set pieces, so yeah I would say he probably is better.

  43. Bobby-on the one match I saw, no, but that match and a few stats are all I really know about the lad. I think he’ll struggle to match Barton though, I really do. Might have more pace and technical ability, but are we just going to leave the tracking back and “getting stuck in” to Tiote? mhm 😕

Thats why it was nice to read the blogs. One said ‘usually when we get beat we shouldn’t have and usually it’s because we played bad or too many players had a day off. But tonight I had a strange feeling that we turned up and we just got outplayed and outclassed by a better team, it was a strange and hollow feeling’.

Aye I bet it was an alien feeling to ya glory supporters, welcome to our world FFS!
