No way back for Barton?

Bye?!
The much publicised fall out between Joey Barton and the Newcastle owners continues to roll on via the medium of Joey Barton’s Twitter account.

In his latest outburst he has publicly criticised the transfer policy of the club after insisting that he will tell all when the time is right. He then went on to say that he had to be careful what he said as he is an employee still before reaffirming his desire to stay next season and bring a trophy to St James’ Park.

Now some will say fair enough about his comments. I do to an extent as everyone has the right to an opinion. However I do think all of these comments make any form of reconciliation seem increasingly more unlikely as time wears on.

Yes, as strange as it sounds, there is still time for this all to be sorted out, but it will take a bit of sway from all parties involved, especially the club, for something to be sorted out. Will the club be willing to sway in the future for someone who is being so openly critical of them?

Rightly or wrongly, Joey’s words will have repercussions. They may strike a chord with fans at the moment and some may feel reassured that there is a critical voice within the club, but realistically what is it going to achieve?

It’s a disaster in all honesty. They bloke who convinced Joey to get Twitter needs to be shot as it was only ever going to end up going in one direction. It took what, three or four days for it to end up going in that direction. Marvellous.

After being openly critical towards the club it is unlikely that those in power will make any effort to keep Barton. Why should they? I mean I never heard Barton, or McKay for that matter, moan for the three years previously whilst us fans were being treated to the dark side of Joey Barton. It’s all in the past of course and Barton does at least seem to have turned a corner, but could this be a case of his past coming back to haunt him in his own doorstep?

Perhaps getting Joey Barton onto Twitter was not the brightest idea. The lad is a straight-talker no doubt, but it’s clear to see that diplomacy is not his forte. I’m not saying that Barton should put up and shut up, but he is running the very real risk of turning what is supposed to be an outlet between fan and player into a bitter dialogue about his current employers.

Can anyone really see any good coming of it?

  1. Barton still has a couple of chances:

A-Ashley sells up, new ownership would be mad not to re-sign him.
B-Ashley removes Lambias, I still get the feeling that Ashley doesn’t give a flying **** what Barton says about him if he gets the job done for Ash, the root cause is lambias’s own ego.
C-has an absolutely amazing season and Ashley and co cave in to resign him under fan pressure and also to avoid losing him on a free.

The first is highly unlikely however, and whilst Ashley might be willing to renew his contract at the end of the yearr to avoid the free loss i get the impression that he would put all the pressure he could on Pardew to quickly sell Barton and get the cash. Fair enough the player can refuse to move, but if he’s never played then he’s only going to stick around for so long-as is his right. Problem with that last thing is if the ownership force Pardew into selling/not playing then he loses massive credibility.

  2. Joey is a marked man anyway. He is a joker with banter, that’s just who he is. Anything he says will get blown out of context anyway. He wrote ‘ha ha’ after his tweets which to me suggests it was a Tongue in cheek rather than a profound statement.

He either gets off twitter or doesn’t be himself when on there as he will never be able to joke on

  3. He’s burning any bridges he may have had very fast. I can’t see any way the club hierarchy and him will get together and sort something out now.
Joey stopped discussions on his contract talks in January and said he wouldn’t open them again until the end of the season. In the meantime he slags Ashley and lamer*se off at a charity do. How does he expect that to help his cause. Whether his views on the Club owners are right or wrong you don’t do that.
Poor judgement again and it makes it clear why the club want shot

You’re a student so I expect you to be doing other stuff aside from studying! 😀

Funnily enough, picked up a load of students from Leeds this morning, pissed as farts, rowdy, by friendly. They soon fell asleep and woke up in Birmingham instead of getting off in Manchester 😆

I remember when I used to get myself in those sorts of situations 😆

I didn’t think he would survive Shearer tbh, it was only because Shearer got the boot first.

  8. toonsy – One of my friends (yes ive got a friend haha) was on the train going through the team valley and was trying to stay awake for a few minutes, anyway he fell asleep and woke up with the train nearly in Edinburgh! He got on a train back and stood up all the way to make sure he didn’t fall asleep again. 😆

  9. Really should be paying attention….that makes sense… now i just feel unloved 😥
Toonsy, sometimes we do have to do work…just for a couple of days a year anyway 🙂

DJG-Aye, I reckon if shearer had got the job we’d have seen the end of Joey Barton, not being present until the very end of the championship as well, I remember at the beginning of this season when plenty of fans were saying “60k off the books once we move Barton on!” and everyone being happy with it..which was fair as he’d done nowt for us before this year.

  10. DJG – 😆 I thought at the time that he they wanted off in Manchester, but hey ho. We’re told not to wake anyone up in case they stab us, or claim assault 😆

  11. Will be interested to watch Gervinho, I thought he may be a bit lightweight for the prem, this should confirm or allay any fears…

  12. don’t think anything jb said was that bad, it’s hard to slag off Ashley and co for wanting better, cheaper and younger players but we’ll need Barton and a few others to help them adjust to 1st season – remember collo, Enrique and co needed time to adjust

  13. Newkie – Aye. When I picked them I felt sorry for them 😆

Anyways, off to get ready for work. Hopefully I can have a kip on my break tonight instead of diverting traffic around a broken down vehicle. I may not be so fooked in the morning then! 😆

    Catch ya’s in a bit 🙂

  14. Still, ending up in brum, now thats a terrible end to a night. I’ve only ever ended up in Bristol when I was supposed to be going to Swansea, but Bristol’s a much nicer place 😀

  15. What a ball by Cabaye that was. Gervinho also beat his man easily soon after that. Cabaye been more quiet though thus far.

  16. One thing I’ve noticed is that Cabaye enjoys giving those long passes. Quite like Alonso in a way.

  17. They both look good lyk. Cabbage is a bit like Barton. (but younger, cheaper and better 😆 ) and Gervinho is really quick and tricky, would win loads of freekicks for Cabbage to have a crack at. 😛

Aye he said N’Zogbia was gonna be the clubs first signing in the next 24-48hours, remember that. 🙄

  20. Not saying its true lads, I dont believe him at all, I just like reading his tweets 🙂

  21. I’m like you Andrew. I just enjoy reading his tweets because no matter what he gets right or wrong during the off season its exciting thinking one or two of them will be right.

  22. I’m not sure about any of these players as never seen them play, just got the link on now. If we signed Gervinho I take it we would lose him for the African Cup of Nations along with Tiote? Are any of the other players we are aledgely looking at apart from Cabaye African? Know its only for a couple of months we would be without, but could be a worry

  23. Gervinho 😯

He looks like he creates more than scores though, still need a CF to partner him.

  24. Im following. Never bothered with twitter until this Cwarr07 and JB stuff. Thought I would see what all the fuss is about. The site just looks like an ego **** for famous people /socialites as far as I can tell. 🙂

  26. Yeah for 3 weeks, not really that much to worry about, just need some good backup. but suppose our backup would be what we have now and that has done us alright, so should be good if they came off

  28. Joey is reacting to the fear of the unknown. No contract offered. Some French guy slated to take his spot. Neither he nor we know what will happen as far as a real signing taking place, who that is and- if it does happen-can the new guy step into Joey shoes?

That is a side of football we don’t think about, the looking over one’s shoulders part. If you think Joey’s upset, what about Nolan, Guthrie, Raylor and the bairns?

  29. I love following the stories on twitter, joey is quite funny on there and it’s interesting what cwarr says about the transfer status. It’s so easy to use

  30. BeeGuy has just made the point I made a few days ago about Shane Ferguson.

If we are moving into a situation where the likes of Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan are going to become the substitute backup players – where on earth are the likes of Guthrie and Smith nevermind the likes of Vuckic and Ferguson going to fit in? Is Jonas even going to be a starter next season if we sign all these guys we are linked with?

I just cannot see anything good for the young players outside of a loan to a Championship club or League 1 since Pardew has effectively closed the door on SPL loans now.

  31. Its more than three weeks worth though, what with the travelling and the amount of games they play, you can guarantee they’ll be knackered for their first game back..annoying but all you can do is wait and hope they don’t get crocked

  32. Gervinho looks the part like. Lmagine playing 4-3-3 with Benny and Gervinho the wing forwards and a CF. Would be lush that like. Even with Ameobi or someone as the CF they would score loads with all the service on offer. 🙂

  34. DJG With all that creativity and pace how about Ranger instead of Shola ,Ranger is quicker and stronger and his hold up play is better than shola’s . i know he still needs to learn a lot like scoring but with those players around him he will get bags of chances .
