Nolan off? West Ham bid £3 million for Captain.

The Chronicle has reported that West Ham United have made a £3 million bid for the services of club captain Kevin Nolan.

Former Magpie manager Sam Allardyce is the new man in charge at Upton Park and is said to be keen to rekindle the relationship that worked so well at Bolton Wanderers. With Nolan's Championship experience and West Ham's dire need to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking it would appear that they are trying to make serious moves in assembling a squad capable of bouncing back at the first attempt.

This of course comes hot on the heels of the news that Kevin Nolan has rejected the offer of a contract extension at Newcastle so we'll have to see what comes of it. This has the potential to be a real indicator of Nolan's professed "love for the club, the area and the fans".

There is no news as yet to suggest whether the bid has been accepted or rejected, or whether Kevin Nolan would be willing to drop back down to the Championship having grafted so hard to get out of it, but in my mind it sounds as though West Ham have been alerted as to the availability of last seasons top scorer.

Coincidences like this just don't happen and it goves the board the ultimate chance to remove one of the high-earners out of the equation.

More to follow, as and when it happens.
