Nolan off? West Ham bid £3 million for Captain.

Is Nolan outta here?
The Chronicle has reported that West Ham United have made a £3 million bid for the services of club captain Kevin Nolan.

Former Magpie manager Sam Allardyce is the new man in charge at Upton Park and is said to be keen to rekindle the relationship that worked so well at Bolton Wanderers. With Nolan’s Championship experience and West Ham’s dire need to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking it would appear that they are trying to make serious moves in assembling a squad capable of bouncing back at the first attempt.

This of course comes hot on the heels of the news that Kevin Nolan has rejected the offer of a contract extension at Newcastle so we’ll have to see what comes of it. This has the potential to be a real indicator of Nolan’s professed “love for the club, the area and the fans”.

There is no news as yet to suggest whether the bid has been accepted or rejected, or whether Kevin Nolan would be willing to drop back down to the Championship having grafted so hard to get out of it, but in my mind it sounds as though West Ham have been alerted as to the availability of last seasons top scorer.

Coincidences like this just don’t happen and it goves the board the ultimate chance to remove one of the high-earners out of the equation.

More to follow, as and when it happens.

  1. I say dont sell…despite the contract negotiations not progressing well we could do with his experience next season

  2. 3m for a player who scored about 12 goals from midfield in the premier league and who has two years left on his contract. No chance NUFC will sell him, especially not to West Ham and especially not for that amount…

      (Quote)

  3. we’d be absolutley mad to sell him, we need to keep the core of “team” players together, Nolan being one of, if not the key player for us last season ..need to keep him here for next season without a doubt 😯 😯

  4. I sincerely hope we do not sell….thats ruined my day!
@ahmed entirely agree 12 goals in the premier league and 3m disgrace… 😐

  5. Apparently Cabaye will be an NUFC player on Friday, as he is set to do his medical that day. Hope that has made your day better Liam! 😀

  6. Would nolan really want to leave a huge club which he is the captain of with 2 years on his contract playing at the highest level…….or go to west ham and playing the long ball with fat sam…..in the championship. There would only be one reason he would want to go….Money;

i am hoping he is not that sort of player ❓

      (Quote)

  7. Liam – I think that is irrelevant mate. West Ham surely haven’t got the money have they?

  8. @5 thanks ahmed … maybe that news conference is going ahead after all…toonsy any news in that department?

  9. 3mil for the traitor that convinced Carroll to go to the bindippers, I hope the fatman has his helecopter ready to take him , or we’ll have to get Toonsy to collect him in his bus 😆

  10. I doubt we will sell Nolan, 3 million though? Are West Ham having a laugh? Big Sam can fck off.

      (Quote)

  11. Toonsy – it suggests not doesnt it with the measly fee but the prospect of a longer contract may be tempting?

Really cant see it….but said that about carroll…. 😯

  12. we need Nolan to stay at the club – but he’ll be nothing more than a bit part player next season.I watched cabaye the other night on ESPN andhelooked great in the first half – faded a bit for the second. Most interesting was Gameiro – he had shocking service in the first half – but much better in the second. I hesitate to say it almost….. but he reminded me of a bit more mobile Michael owen 🙂

  13. @12 tattyheed i agree cabaye was clever with the ball, gamerio looked like he could be class but doubt we will get him

  14. £3mil for am aging and slow CM/AMC who may not even make the team next season isn’t really a bad deal tbh, as long as we get someone “younger, BETTER and cheaper” as Joey said. Nolan is on about 50-60k wages. If some of the rumoured players come in then I’d cash in now and buy someone younger and cheaper to fill the bench.

If he does go though it would pose an interesting question as to who would be captain next season? Colo? Or a bargaining tool to get Jose to sign even…

But I’d want players in before even entertaining the thought of selling him.

  15. Zog was by far our best player that season and our greatest goal threat when he played ahead of the absolutely useless Damien Duff…

Joe Kinnear treated him like cr@p and Zog felt he wasn’t getting treated as he should be – WAKE UP, HE WAS RIGHT!!!

He is no bigger sulk than Jonas or Colo or even Shearer if they had to get dropped for someone far less talented.

He is a fantastic player, can attack and defends. Would snap him up at 12mil.

Our hero Ben Arfa who has played exactly two games isn’t considered a sulk, when he did exactly the same thing to Marsailles…

Seriously, people need to be less sensitive…

As for Nolan, he is worth at least 8Mil in todays market.

A bid of 3mil is an absolute joke. Plus he has 2 years left on his contract, so this story is I’m certain completely fabricated…

      (Quote)

  16. Also, doesn’t this story remind you of the Steven Taylor story last year… he was “transfer listed” yet he ended up signing a new deal.

      (Quote)

  17. Keep Nolan for one more season, then sell him for 3m with one year left on contract. 😉

Regarding CNZ, would it not be folly to sign him again, I mean Ashley likes to buy players with a selll on value…………So he sells CNZ for 6m and may have to pay double the amount to buy him back.
Can’t see Ashley sanctioning this deal, though personally I would prefer CNZ to Gervinho as he is a proven quality EPL player.

      (Quote)

  18. I cant see him wanting to join wham at this moment in time, I reckon they will sell him next summer if nowts agreed in the meantime…

      (Quote)

  19. I’m not against CNZ comming back, good little player. But if we are talking about spending that kind of money on him, why not give Johnson from City a go? I know he may not be up for sale, but a try might not be so bad. I’m also not 100% sure on the rules, do we need so many English players in the team? If we are about to loose some, maybe we need to try and get one or two more in. Mind you, the cost of them after that other silly bid makes it so much harder

      (Quote)

  20. I think the most worrying point out of this bid is it opens the door for other clubs to make an offer; premier league clubs and then the temptation for owners to sell might be greater 🙁

      (Quote)

  21. Toonsy heard enrique will play out last year of contract ….merely speculation?

      (Quote)

  22. Ah shame that – heard messi was a lifelong toon fan on the quiet…..and is dead set on move to north east!

      (Quote)

  23. Hes no messi but when i saw shane ferguson at stoke for the first time he was superb…we lost 4-0 and he came on late but he was showing some quality touches, and good vision;

even though N’zog would be great addition i think ferguson could make that left side his in the next few years.

      (Quote)

  24. I agree with that about Fergie. The lad loks to drawer and will only improve. I reckon he’ll play a big part next season.

      (Quote)

  25. I take it by all the fervent comments earlier in the week, there will be a big announcement tomorrow, regarding the signings we are about to make, particularly Gervinho?

Here come the excuses. 🙄 🙁

      (Quote)

  26. when i first saw ferguson warming uo at st james with the lads i thought he was a mascot ffs 😀

      (Quote)

  27. He may be slight little fergie but has better ball control than most of our first teamers…milk and steak for him according to pards!

    it is a reminder of how our academy do keep churning out good players;

lua lua was a real player at brighton, sameobi looks like he could be better than his brother and ones to watch this year has to be vuckic and airey…

      (Quote)

  28. Bsn9 im starting to feel we really will get gervinho. But won’t be upset if we don’t as I have my doubts that he fits the epl style.
But just wondering, by the off chance that we do sign any of these players that are “beyond us” what will you do then? Would you be happy? Or would you just say, ” well we’ve got him/them so they can’t be as good as we think”?

      (Quote)

  29. Absoulte madness!!! The cheek to offer £3 million for a 12 goal a season midfilerder. Who the hell does the fat P*i*k think he is. Nolan is our club captian and the engine room for all attacking threats. Benny and N’zog or Gervinho either side of him and a good striker is the way forward.

      (Quote)

  30. Noticed that Nolan (who is usually rapid out of the blocks to make a comment and speak to the fans) hasn’t said anything yet…

Smith leaving, Joey doubtful….will Raylor still be here? All his mates are away by the looks of it.

It’s ridiculous really, he has 2 years left on his contract and is being offered another. It’s not the same circumstance as Joey not being offered one and surely over the space of a year there can be sufficient negotiation to come to acceptable terms

      (Quote)

  31. Josh, not this summer. If a good replacement is in place next summer than fine, but we will need him next year, to at least lead the squad.

      (Quote)

  32. I don’t think Nolan will go unless he tells the board he wants to go. He’s not worth three million and I think that’s all West Ham can offer. They are probably doing this since they know that Nolan has rejected a new deal.

      (Quote)

  33. I think he is worth upwards of 6m if im honest. Id keep him and offer a new deal again next summer. If he then rejects that deal id let him go.

      (Quote)

  34. Don’t sell….not for 3mil anyway. Even if we can’t make a new agreement, lets just run down the two years he has and see where we are at the end of it.

      (Quote)

  35. Does this transfer window have the familiar stench of the past one’s?

It’s starting to pong a bit!

      (Quote)

  36. Yes…this window has been an utter disgrace, pathetic, hopeless, complete lack of ambition, disrespectful to all those faithful & loyal fans who line Ashleys pocket year in year out, mores lies & disceet, same all previous windows, no net spend and so on & so forth…

For fcuks sake…the window has only been open 3 ******* days. I will never understand some people… 🙄

      (Quote)

  37. What happens, happens IMO. If he goes he goes, everyone who i’ve seen put their starting 11 up struggles to fit him in. I don’t particularly want him to leave, but i believe we’ll be stronger come August 14th, first game-ish and Sept 1st.

      (Quote)

  38. Nolan wont go… hes the captain of newcastle for heavens sake!

      (Quote)

  39. He might go if he’s not happy with the contract offer he received from the club. But I don’t know where I would play him if we got Cabaye, Cabaye would partner Tiote so where would that leave Nolan?

      (Quote)

  40. How would West Ham be prepared to pay him 40k a week or whatever he’s on with us? I know they’re stripping their wage bill but they’re doing that because they have too…and even some of their “star internationals” might be hard to offload..plus if they don’t go straight back up then they’d be financially fecked. Can’t see why Nolan would want to go…unless the club are making it clear he’s not in their first team plans.

      (Quote)

  41. We are a weaker club without Nolan. We all know he is the leader and the loss of him i fear would kill a lot of the team spirit that kept us up last season.

      (Quote)

  42. Michael Owen only has two days in Portugal left 🙄

I tweeted him to say he should stay there, the risible shitbag 😆

      (Quote)

  43. @jerseyG
We won’t get Gervinho so it’s not a question I need to answer.

Our ambitions are to break the top 10 next season. He’s too good.

      (Quote)

  44. Just thought about a stat quick, during last season we never won one of the eight games in which Nolan did not play in. Added to that he is our club captain and scored 12 goals, has two years left on his contract. Can’t see the club selling such an important player at this stage.

      (Quote)

  45. Ahmed you are forgetting this is Newcastle united, you simply never know whats around the corner haha.

      (Quote)

  46. I’d just like to come out of hiding and say:

    1. There is no such thing as a starting eleven, there are only squads. Different players play according to different tactics and different circumstances.

    2. Footballer contract negotiations are cut-throat affairs played by management, agents and players (the Enrique saga being an excellent case in point).

    3. As part of contract negotiations, disinformation is leaked to the press, and the press lap it up because they know fans will consume whatever they say. This is how tabloids recruit readers (as do blogs and, probably, tweeters).

OK, back to my observation post. Just watching, and waiting for Ashley and co to fall one way or the other. For the sake of it though, I’d take N’Zog, N’Taylor, and keep N’olan and B’arton.
