Jose’s fitness boost.

Jose fit to feature against Wolves.
Newcastle have been handed a fitness boost with the news that Jose Enrique’s hamstring injury is not too serious and that he should be available for the crunch game against Wolves at the start of April.

Jose limped out of the game against Stoke in the 23rd minute which eventually brought about one of the highlights of the game when Shane Ferguson was brought on to replace him. Ferguson impressed in the absence of the Spaniard but let’s be honest, the lad isn’t anywhere near first choice yet and if Jose is fit then Jose will play.

I was surprised to see Enrique in the starting line up anyway to be fair as I thought he was set to miss out. Indeed we were told before the match how unlikely it was that Jose was going to feature, but when the team was announced it appeared that Jose had proved his fitness. In fact it was Jose’s confidence that convinced Pardew to play the lad.

“We genuinely felt he was fine late on Friday, but it was still a late call,” said Pardew. “I told the Press what I did on Thursday, because I honestly thought he wouldn’t be playing. I really didn’t think he would, but he was so confident, I went with him.”

Rightly or wrongly, Jose played, but it sounds like it was his persuasion that did the trick on Pardew. It backfired of a sort though when he limped out of action, but the good news is that the hamstring is only tight and hasn’t been strained. Pardew continued:

“We don’t think that it’s going to be a serious one, genuinely not. It’s hard to read with Jose when it comes to injuries. The good thing is he hasn’t pulled anything, it’s just a tightening. We took him off as precaution.”

So it’s fingers crossed that Jose’s hamstring can hold out, and with Joey Barton and Jonas Gutierrez stepping back into the action and gaining a bit more fitness it can only be a good thing ahead what is fair to say is a relegation six-pointer.

Newcastle simply must not lose that game, but that will only be made easier with the return to fitness of three of our regular starters. Leon Best could also make a return and Stephen Ireland is even being talked about for an appearance.

With regard to injuries, it’s GOOD news for a change!

  1. Andrew – Indeed. I’ll be loitering around London for a bit this evening. Seven Sisters/Grove Park kind of area. Got some business to attend to down there 🙂

  2. Also, not for much longer. Fingers crossed I’ll have a new job soon. Got a medical for it on Wednesday.

  3. when I was a baker I used to like nightshift it meant you had the whole day to yerself plus you didn’t have to get up early for work 😆

  4. I really hate these international breaks mid season…we always come back and play like ***** afterwards. Not feeling too confident about Wolves, but would love to be proven wrong. Another draw, and more anxiety about staying up…

Haven’t seen Collo being slagged anywhere…thought he was also poor for 2 of the goals…..oh man..let’s get those points in the bag..

  5. MM how’s you mate 😉 your right about certain players escaping much abuse, I know if it was Taylor at fault for the 1st instead of Sol he would have got 100 times more abuse than Sol did 😀

  6. He’s only allowed out after dark…..and if you need to pass a medical, you’re screwed 😉 😆

  7. Big D…yallright mate…..all of the goals were preventable, hopefully it was just a bad day at the office. It’s just we all have to wait 2 more weeks before we can do owt about it.

How did Tiote play at the weekend ?.. maybe all the madness going down in Ivory Coast is getting him a bit upset…madness down there at the mo apparently.. is he banned for the Wolves game ?

  8. MM Tiote didn’t have a good game like 9 other players the only one that can hold their head high is young Ferguson but then he is an Ulster man 😉
and yeah he is out of the wolves game

  9. Yep he’s banned for the next 2 games. The actualy challenge that got him his ban was not a yellow card challenge, he got the ball and hardly touched the player. But it was inevitable and Guthrie is gonna have to wake up now and come up with a CM performance like he did last season to destroy many teams. Why shouldn’t he be able to against Wolves? Lets face it Carl Henry is like a ford escort in premier league paint.

  10. I didn’t….someone said Werder would lose, can’t think who said it like 👿 😉

  11. MM ime good m8,how did your w/end go,better than here i bet.
said before if we cannot get 5points from 3 home games theres something sadly wrong imo

  12. Oh man…no Tiote against Wolves… 🙁 ..

Most we can hope for is 1 point…too many people off form..

  13. I don’t think thats enough MM. This game is must-win now unfortunately, either that or we keep drawing which seems more unlikely.

  14. Jeez I remember doing nightshifts – 7 – 7 on a 24 hour rota – 4 days on – 4 days off, glad I left those days behind tough on family life and it’s only really 3 days off as you’re sleeping like fvck after your nights
Anyway I’d go with morenos selection with jonas on the right and fergie on left wing, the big loss will be tiote so hopefully pards won’t pick guthrie as replacement

  15. richietoon…I wouldn’t follow any of Munich Mugs tips mate, he naas nowt about football… 😳

    Ay Ice…canny weekend in Schalke country thanks…visiting the outlaws… 😆 …

DJG…they are all must win at the moment mate, we just can’t win any of them…morale seems to be paggered at the moment, not to say a distinct lack of fire power…

  17. Well I would say it is must win. For the simple reason that Newcastle are bottlers and always lose a must-win last game of the season match. I don’t think we can afford to be in a positon where we must win to stay up. History dictates that newcastle don’t achieve it.

  18. AYE we lack fire power badly, ime sorry but loverman and shola are not the answer, one is ccc class at best, the other wants a bag owr his heed not a mask

  19. DJG@106…suggest you check up on your history then, unless your history only includes the last relegation season, either way it’s a completely false statement.

  20. Munich….cya….I did feel uneasy betting against Werder as I used to go and watch them when I was posted to Hohne, should have trusted my instinct.

  21. why’s that richietoon, do provide examples then. In terms of all the Newcastle teams I can remember (admittedly not going back since jack was a lad) have always bottled it in either

    1) a final

    2) Win a trophy

    3) stay up on last day

surely your not trying to suggest that it would be different for this current team. And by the way going back 30 odd years or whatever doesn’t really have much relevance to this current team does it?

  22. AndrewNUFC @55,um ani…….. is a Tibetan manra for compassion.I don’t believe in divine intervention in football, but reading or reciting it (the mantra)tends to produce a calming effect, and I guess a little bit of calm would hurt nobody in these trying days. Watching the Sunderland game yesterday gave some painrelief for the Saturday trauma. Not only cause our bad neighbours lost, even more enjoyable was the booing of carrol, not much compassion there I’m afraid!

  23. DJG….you were talking about must games of the season to stay up, come on then where’s your history?…. even the season we got relegated last time wasn’t “must win” as a draw would have kept us up……..I’m waiting

      (Quote)

  24. It wasn’t a must win tho…..the only “more” you need to say is anything to back up what you said….but as you keep avoiding it I can only assume you can’t

  25. What im saying is, and what I said to begin with if you read back, I consider this a must win game against Wolves. I would like us to remain 4-5 points above third from bottom. I don’t want us to be dragged into a scrap on the last day where we have to beat West Brom at home, I don’t think we are caple of it to be honest and looking at the last 2 seasons that we have played them in the league I think I am fully justified in that opinion.

      (Quote)

  26. Yes you said it’s a must win game v Wolves(which it isn’t) but ut was the rest of the stuff you said which I disagree with as it’s untrue. The Villa game was a must draw at least not a must win, splitting hairs maybe but not if your going to say that historically we always lose them. The previous one I can remember is when KK was manager first time where we needed to win the last game to be sure of staying up and we did.
Technically the only must win is the last game of the season and you need 3 points to stay up.
Apart from that though I agree with you @122 😉 😆

  27. Actually, looking at where the yo-yo’s are, it’s likely that if we continue on this downwards slope that us and the monkey’s are on. It is likely that by the last game of the season it will be who wins stays up. I want it to be we win you go back down, or, we lose you stay up we are already safe, if you catch my drift.

  28. I’m gonna have that song in my heed all night 👿 😆

    DJG….we’ll be ok man KTF 😉 …..hopefully 😕

  29. After the defeats off the baggies in the last few seasons though, and them chasing us (unsuccessfully) last season. I think it would be funny if we were the villa type team at home on the last day and a win sends them down. 😆

      (Quote)

  30. djg…would love it just love it if Villa went down, crowd has turned on them big time too 😆
