Peter Crouch? Since when?

Crouch interest cooled.
It appears that Newcastle are ‘cooling their interest’ in lanky England striker, Peter Crouch.

What interest though?

The rumour mill has been strangely quite on this one with not even so much as a murmur about the possibility of the Tottenham hitman moving to the North-East, until now that is.

This is what makes me think that we have some rather excitable and maybe bored journalists on our hands. I mean considering the fact that if anyone farts on Twitter it’s all over everywhere it seems funny that there hasn’t even been a sniff of this previously. Anyway, let’s look at it a bit more…..

Apparently Newcastle have been put off by the £9 million price tag attached to Crouch. Good job really as I’m put off by him as a player. Great lad, seems really funny, but for some reason I just don’t rate him as a player.

Is he better than what we have? Yes, probably. Can he score goals? Well yes he can do, albeit not exactly at a prolific rate (apart, strangely, from England), yet for some reason I’m glad we’ve apparently missed out on him.

I think the biggest fear I have with someone like Crouch is that there would be a great big whopping tendency to resort to route one football. Not being a football snob, but I hate that. We resorted to it with Carroll at times but I just don’t like it. It’s something I’ve never liked to see at Newcastle in honesty.

Still it looks as though it won’t be an issue for us now, and with movement expected within the next few days (either a yes or no) regarding Mevlüt Erdinç it looks as though we’ve moved on from looking at Crouch. I’m not saying Erdinç is the one, but he is the type of player that we need. Someone to work off and work around Demba Ba…

With good news in short supply it’s time we heard something positive from the club. Let’s turn those frowns upside down starting this evening against MLS title hopefuls Columbus Crew and hopefully build on that with a signing in the next few days before I head off to Leeds for a ‘blog jolly on Sunday.

Dare to dream?

  1. He scores prolifcly for England because he’s rarely played regularly in a tournament that matters-that means he gets the unimportant games which we always win. Oh yeah, and his goal rate is boosted by scoring goals against Andora and Jamaica and the like 😆

  2. Never liked him as a footballer, makes me cringe the thought of him in a black and White shirt. Route one with this guy is normally pointless as he is shorter when he jumps. For such a tall guy he is woeful in the air. If any striker from the spuds would be pav. But not at droopy Harry prices!! That bloke needs a mask for more than one reason..

  3. I am a NUFC supporter living in Bulgaria, but I come from Oslo Norway.I am spending my summer holiday here at the moment.Yesterday I had a cigarette in my cousin”s garden feeling deeply disturbed by the horrible terror attack on my country. Then suddenly a magpie landed in a tree right in front of me,a greeting from NEWCASTLE! It felt SO GOOD! We must never let our stupid owner disturb our love for our fantastick footballclub!!!

  5. I’ve got a sinking feeling that all the talk is just a smokescreen for the fact that we’re not going to get anybody in. Surely they know by now that all the ‘brinkmanship’ of holding out for lower fees/salary packages just ends up with players and agents being royally pissed off with the club?

KK was right when he said that Pardew wouldnt be getting any of the Carroll money. I thought it was sour grapes at the time but he’s 100% on the money.
    🙁

  8. I’m interested in the Erdinc ”saga”. We had a bid accepted, he said he wanted to stay in France, and now PSG have signed another attacker, Jeremy Menez, we make another bid which is accepted. Firstly, i’m shocked the lad wants to remain at a club so happy to sell him, i mean come on, PSG aren’t even holding out for more money, they have accepted a bid straight away, does that not tell him they don’t really want to keep him ??? Plus with Gameiro and Menez there now, does he not realise he is going to be 3rd choice attacker AT LEAST ? What’s with this guy ? Plus it was to my understanding that Newcastle would find out the extent of Ben Arfa’s injury on Monday, well it’s Tuesday, and I aint heard s***. Anyone know ?

  9. We should pay you £9 million to take him. Seriously everyone says that he’s good, until he joins their team. Then you hate him.

I think the worst thing about him is – he never seems to get injured

  12. PSG have just been taken over by rich new owners, Leonardo has just returned there from Inter as chief bottle washer, PSG are a team on the up and up. They have just signed another new striker, I can understand if Erdinc wants to be part of the new PSG, but we’ll see if the club have the same opinion. I reckon he’s bound for the toon, only a matter of when…

I bet they nearly crapped themselves when the bid for Gameiro was accepted. At least they played it safe by bidding for a player who showed no interest in coming to the toon whatsoever.

  17. I think Crouch is a good player , wouldnt sign him now tho at his age and at 9 million , but a few years ago I think he would of done more than a decent job for us.

    Bridge , no thanks.

Hopefully when the team return from america we will finish our transfer activity in and out fairly quicky so we know how we stand for the up coming season. We prob wont and leave it to the last minute as normal tho 😕

  18. It’s just a textbook made-up story from press bored with a lack of progress. Don’t even start a rumour – just write a story about why something DIDN’T happen. Fills some column-inches, then stops.

Obvious tripe. Fat Fred would have signed him, but fortunately not Ashley, who has more sense.

  19. So for people who don’t like Enrique being fined, should we allow our players to just explain to the world what our tactics will be for the next match? Who’s playing, what our injuries our, where we will be weak etc? Would people be happy if players discussed this on twitter? I’m just wondering how far this freedom to free speech malarkey will go with people 😆

  20. Sucks about Arfa 😕 Pardew is really putting his head out on getting in a striker…better be a decent one! Would take Warnock as well I guess.

  21. Ice…just ganna rent it out, did have a derisory offer last Thursday but was so low I told the estate agent that I didn’t want to hear from him again even if he offered £1 under the asking price. I don’t mind people coming in with a low offer(as I would do) but when they’re blatantly taking the p!ss they can **** off, even if it means cutting off my nose to spite my face 👿

  22. Richietoon…renting is a good way to go until I buyer comes along. I rented my place in the toon for about seven years before I flogged it. Get yourself a good agent, but me prepared for non-payers…be sure to carefully vet the tenants before letting them anywhere near your pad…but you know all this stuff anyway…

  23. RICHIE you did right mate,my lad got rid of agent too,if you can dont use one to rent the place either they tak 20/30% of the rent, they even send plummers in to change washer on taps at £70 a hour ect ect, bloody gits 😈
