Game on! Sunderland v Newcastle.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.
The natives plie in at Sunderland.
Well it’s here. Earlier than expect but nonetheless it’s here all the same.

A very early 12pm kick-off will signal yet another instalment of the big one round these parts. The Tyne-Wear derby is upon us once again.

Of course much of the pressure to get a result is on Sunderland. In their own words they are “light years” ahead of us, much like they were last season when they gained just a solitary point from the two meetings between the two sides. Froth and foam will be in copious supply at the Stadium of Light this afternoon as the locals desperately scrabble for some kind of payback for the embarrassment and lessons dished out by the boys in black and white last season.

Of course Newcastle aren’t without pressure of their own. I have a feeling that a negative result will see tensions boil over as a result of what has been a frustrating and tense transfer window thus far. A loss at Sunderland will give some the excuse they have been waiting for to let rip and we could see some real signs of unrest starting to come to the surface more than what they already are.

It’s finely poised if you ask me. The bookies can’t separate the two sides and you can get much the same price for a Sunderland win, Newcastle win, or a draw. Neither side look to be prolific in front of goal and both sides have new players that are still adjusting to life at their new club. Let’s hope our boys can adjust quicker than those lot. Keep it tight for half hour, shut their gurning rabble of a fanbase up, and take it from there.

It will be a full house, but remember they only come to see United!

In terms of build up you can read my match preview ramblings where I take a stab at selecting the team and formation, highlight any fitness and injury concerns aswell as pick out some handy stats about the match in general and about both teams. You can have a read of that by clicking here.

Have a look below for team news. If the substitutes aren’t named just bear with us as sometimes it can take a bit longer to track them down. They matchday 18 will be there for both sides as son as I can get my paws on it.

In terms of streams there are plenty knocking about by the looks of it so I’m quite optimistic about being able to view the match online. In fact a quick look at MyP2P website shows that there are plenty to pick and choose from. Combine that with other sites and I’d say we’ll be fine for viewing it. I’d still rather be at the game though…

That is just about it really. Let’s hope we can come away from the Village of the Damned with at least a point to show for our efforts. Taking a point off them in their own back yard would easily hand us the early season bragging right ahead of the reprisal at St James’ Park early next year. Nothing less than 100% effort, application and dedication will do!

Howay the lads!

  1. Is this the same Wickham people on here were ranting we should sign? Same thing happened with Gervinho last week.

Just proves most people on here have never seen the players they foam at the mouth wanting signed. That or they are fickle as fug.

  4. Well, well. We came back strong in the 2nd half. Pardew’s halftime talk must have worked. Well effing done.

Come on, all you tactical specialists, what did we do differently that worked out?

  5. Pardew oot 🙄 ……..whey double the amount of points most would have been happy with from 2 games……36 to go 😆

  7. Weeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeee.

I said we’d beat them, even with a weakened side. How poor must Mrs. Doubtfire’s team be?

  8. Two game, four points. Happy with that. Beat the Scum in their own back yard. Class 😀

We still need signings of course, but at the end of the day the football is back and we aren’t doing to bad at that. They took the first half, we took the second half. Happy days. I can go to work with a smile on my face now 😀

  9. Well done the lads 😛 😛 😛 😛

  10. Brilliant result, thought gosling was gonna make a name for himself. He looked very lively when he came on.

  11. Well played Pardew aswell. Thought he got his tactics spot on today. Room for improvement still but on the whole I was impressed with most poeple at points today.

  12. I actually want to see Sylvain Marveaux playing today.Oh well.

Bring On the next game!! S.cu.n. thorpe

  13. I got the feeling Pardew gave Obertan a mouthful and told him to pull his weight.
He was running down the flanks that second half which opened the midfield a little.

The goal also gave Jonas the breathing space to get forward more and IMO he was the key man in attack.

Shola played very well second half.

    Tiote improved, still not great.

Colo for me though MOTM again!!

  14. When is the last time we started a premiership season with 2 clean sheets ? i never expected this start to the season 4 points and 2 clean sheets against Le **** and the scum . 😯 😯

  15. Toonsy @ 417 – aye, you can still see we are trying to gel together. Gosling left a great impression only being on for what 6-7 minutes.

  16. Both L and R backs are weak now. Glad they attacked R Taylor more as Jonas is great cover. Obertan doesn’t provide as much cover for Simpson as Barton did. But great spirit shown overall which is what I was worried about a couple of weeks back.

  17. Agree Axel a@422 defense holding up. Was it Danny Simpson recently in the press saying Pardew been working on the defense alot? Great to see us solid for a change

      (Quote)

  18. Get in there!!

Not pretty, but the defence held up well again. Don’t know what happened to this idea of Pardew’s that we’d hold the ball longer. Two very ordinary teams out there today. But what a feckin’ win!!

    Howay the lads.

  19. I think Raylor done well too, I dont think he deserves half the **** he gets, he isnt the best player but always gives his all.
For me aslong as the player gives his all i’ll back him

      (Quote)

  20. Don’t forget the goalie. Krul under pressure to establish himself as number one keeps another clean sheet. Well done young un.

gabbadini will have all the excuses on Monday. SMB go home and have a wash

  21. Great result but no real attacking threat from us. Our defense looks good two games and we have yet to concede.

Shola played very well today I am not sure which game you guys slamming him watched but even Stevie Wonder saw Shola played very well.

Cabaye…….poor so far in the two games. I cannot recall a single contribution he made in the game.

We are going to miss the goal contributions from Nolan there is no doubt about that.

    Great 3 points

  22. We’ve got a few points on the board with two tough games and most players (Obertan, Cabaye, Tiote, even Barton) still to improve, plus Marveaux and Ben Arfa to come in (plus another striker and a left back)>

    Not looking too bad.

  23.    Get in!

Got to admit i was worried in the first half and we were lucky a few times but we deffo improved in the second.

Raylor scored a mint goal but he is pretty bad at LB! 😯 Good player to have on the bench though. Not sure about Obertan, too lazy for away games, maybe keep him for home games against the lower teams. Thought Ba wouldv’e got a longer run out 😥

But a mint result!

  24. In 5under1ands defence, when they say “the next level” they never said whether they meant the next level up or next level down 😆

  25. That has to be one of the worst, scrappiest, games I’ve seen since …..

    who cares, what a result.

      (Quote)

  26. Michael12 @ 435 Cabaye…….poor so far in the two games. I cannot recall a single contribution he made in the game.

I dont know what game you were watching even stevie wonder agreed he done ok

  27. “Ameobi seems to have more pace than Ferdinand”

I almost fell off my chair… Then did when I saw it was true… 😯

  28. Mebs people will settle down and get on with supporting the team … very early days but seriously looks like the players are together and are fighting for nufc.

      (Quote)

  29. How can people say we don’t have an attacking threat….we won the game, the goal, albeit from a free kick came from incisive Jonas running and winning the foul. We should have netted/had a penalty. Gosling was also unlucky not to score. Bambi was very close to a header he would make 99/100 and was unfortunate to be offside.

Okay we do need a striker in, but jesus, did sunderland lack attacking threat simply because they didn’t score? What about arsenal last week? I guess they should sell Van persie as he didn’t score..

Really? I saw him tackling and getting stuck in like the rest today. Not outstanding by any means but certainly not the worst player in black and white today….
