Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane!
Welcome one and all to our rather fabulous ‘Game On’ article which this evening will take us through every twist and turn of what is set to be a tough encounter.

Today we visit White Hart Lane to do battle with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur outfit but, unlike in previous years, there is actually something riding on this game.

Tottenham sit in third in the table and are looking to catch up Manchester United in second, whist we sit fifth currently – enough for Europe – and will be looking to consolidate that position. It won’t be easy of course, but at long last we have a team capable of springing a surprise result away at one of the “top” teams, in much the same way we did at Old Trafford earlier on in the season.

Anyway, there has been enough said about the match by others and I don’t have to go on about how tough it is going to be again. If you do wish to look at some more background information ahead of the match then why not check out Shamrock’s most excellent match preview or NUFC_stats’ Tottenham v Newcastle stat-attack by clicking here. They are both worth a few minutes of your time.

In terms of the match itself, it is being shown live in ESPN which is great if you can’t get to the match and fancy sitting in a pub or in front of the box with a few Saturday evening beverages. It’s also being broadcast on a lot of overseas channels so the chances of a stream should be pretty good, which is great if you fancy sitting in front of the computer with a few Saturday evening beverages… Once again, if you do stumble upon a decent stream then please feel free to share it with your fellow Magpies.

That is just about it for now and it’s up to the boys on the pitch to do the talking. Will they avoid some White Hart pain at White Hart Lane?

Howay the lads!

  1. To b honest i don’t see how anybody can have a go at the tactics as we are sitting 6th in the league after only r 2nd season back n with players who have hardly played together. I think he is doin a Dan good job!!

  2. Micheal – So we play deep and invite Spurs to just attack, attack, Attack? That would be good wouldn’t it?

Least Ashley will be happy 😉

  3. today now we just need some dignity, that’s a fucking nightmare for the moment, our right side is just inexistent

  4. Going to get murdered here. And that’s why we need a high line, because otherwise Adebeyor will murder us.
The problem isn’t the high line, its Simpson being very poor and they have free reign down the one flank to attack…

  5. We need someone to get a grip but we dont have a General on the pitch.
    wtf are we doing

  6. They are showing our average players up. Williamson, Simpson and Perch look uncomfortable. I’d bring Arfa on and say fck it!

  7. we are too slow especially Willo and Simpson. Against team who use long ball is good for willo but against this kind of play the game is to quick for him

  8. Stuart79 we are playing a high line now and 3-0 down. What more evidence do you need? We are seeing what a high line against spurs has done to us. We are losing simply on Pace. None of our defenders have pace so cannot challenge Bale, Adebayor et al.

  9. And our fans are still singing, could you imagine spurts fans singing with this sc oreline.
**** no corner there idiot ref 👿

  10. is not Obertan to contain Bale he can help but Simmo needs to do something no just looking and passing the ball to Krul, he can contain someone no?

  11. Well I’m off now. Good luck sticking with the rest of the game lads. This is beyond pathetic right now.

Without being at home, we stand no chance of getting back into this

  12. Jonas has also definately lost something. He used to beat his first man with ease and gallop past him… Now he hardly ever does it…

  13. Slight reality check in fairness. We do have some pretty average players out there. Thinking of CL is just dreaming.

  14. Look it is basic knowledge Against pacey opposition you play deep. Why a manager would not do this is either he has an elaborate and labyrinthine plan or he is simply stupid. the scoreline suggests the latter.

  15. It was always gonna be a bad day to play em what with the Arry euphoria of the last few days. And let’s not forget they are a really good football team who sit 3rd.

  16. Hopefully Benny is not in the pitch, because if it was in the pitch most of the fans will say we are poor defensively because of him.

  17. Can people stop talking about us and the Top 4 now? We are clearly not ready. Still think 5th i realistic though, we were never going to do well today, although I’d have thought we would do a bit better than this!

  18. Tottenham are better than us I acknowledge that but they are not that superior for us to be 4-0 down. Clearly what is happening is a tactical blunder or lack of them

  19. Goodness, they’re showing this second string up.

Defence pathetic and midfield non existent.

Ah well at least there’s a break now and Wolves next game with midfield returning.

Fear for our defence though, if Williamson is the best centre half after Colo we’re in danger of finishing outside top 7.

Blackburn created chance after chance, so did QPR, and Villa.

  20. agree JJ,

I don’t know why Simmo is going forward when he knows that he is useless forward, and he is so slow and in case of counter attack he has no chance to come back, he must just stay behind and try to take at least one ball.

      (Quote)

  21. Well, I think this puts the dreamers 4th place to bed.

Teams that finish fourth just don’t play this badly. We’ve just folded in a heap…

      (Quote)

  22. really poor showing so far, wasn’t expecting much but this is awful, still another half to play anarl **** sake man 👿

      (Quote)

  23. This can only make Harrys stock rise even more, spurs won’t do anywhere near this good once he leaves as all big players will go too.

      (Quote)

  24. @CELESTINE BAKAYARO: I agree they are not on the same planet but come even you have to admit they are not sooooo bad to have us 4-0 down before halftime

      (Quote)

  25. can we not just keep it simple.
keep the ****** ball and pass to our own players.
Once again its our midfield that is shyte

      (Quote)

  26. May as well put Benny on… Jonas switched to the right. We need to play with a right back too… Simpson may as well not be on the pitch with Bale.

      (Quote)

  27. they are passing it at will.
we give them too much time and space and not pressing the ball
    its pathetic and embarrassing

      (Quote)

  28. HBA @130 – Agreed. We have been saying this for ages now. He needs to stay back and concentrate on his defending. He’s not good enough in possession going forward and leaves himself and his team exposed.

      (Quote)

  29. fulham and today just shows willo and simmo are weak links and to be honest we were lucky at blackburn over run in midfield no quality for ba and cisse 😳

      (Quote)

  30. it’s exactly what i said before the game that we will see how simmo is really an average (to not said bad) player. when he is not making a save in the line he is almost useless

      (Quote)

  31. BB tbh I have seen Guthrie making a few decent passes, but as for the rest ❓ but the defence have just not turned up bar Colo but I still don’t think Colo commands the defence ❓

      (Quote)

  32. Nevermind the potential defensive crisis if someone gets injured or carded. We should have got a new FB and/or CB cos Williamson is slow and Simpson isn’t good enough.
