Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane!
Welcome one and all to our rather fabulous ‘Game On’ article which this evening will take us through every twist and turn of what is set to be a tough encounter.

Today we visit White Hart Lane to do battle with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur outfit but, unlike in previous years, there is actually something riding on this game.

Tottenham sit in third in the table and are looking to catch up Manchester United in second, whist we sit fifth currently – enough for Europe – and will be looking to consolidate that position. It won’t be easy of course, but at long last we have a team capable of springing a surprise result away at one of the “top” teams, in much the same way we did at Old Trafford earlier on in the season.

Anyway, there has been enough said about the match by others and I don’t have to go on about how tough it is going to be again. If you do wish to look at some more background information ahead of the match then why not check out Shamrock’s most excellent match preview or NUFC_stats’ Tottenham v Newcastle stat-attack by clicking here. They are both worth a few minutes of your time.

In terms of the match itself, it is being shown live in ESPN which is great if you can’t get to the match and fancy sitting in a pub or in front of the box with a few Saturday evening beverages. It’s also being broadcast on a lot of overseas channels so the chances of a stream should be pretty good, which is great if you fancy sitting in front of the computer with a few Saturday evening beverages… Once again, if you do stumble upon a decent stream then please feel free to share it with your fellow Magpies.

That is just about it for now and it’s up to the boys on the pitch to do the talking. Will they avoid some White Hart pain at White Hart Lane?

Howay the lads!

  1. Well the press will be happy .They can go back to writeing us off again ,god knows we are giving them enough ammo here .How we laughed at Merson saying 4.0 ,i can see 7.0 if they don’t get a bloody grip soon. 👿

  2. yeah you got it right Big Dave.
Simmo Willo Perch jonas obertan all poor performances.

  3. @Shamrock

Yeah i know and i said that since the start of the season, but Pardew must tell him make a simple pass and stay behind or go on the bench 1 or 2 games just to try to think about that, because other players go on the bench for less than that(…my idole Benny)

  4. Be interesting to see the pass success of individual players after that half. Obertan didnt make a solitary pass. And why is Santon never in the box?

  5. Look to to tottenham last year they were too weak in the middle and right back they take Parker and walker and now one of the best team in the country. I think we really need to pace especially in defense because in counter attack we seem to be too easily out of position.

  6. reckon its all a ploy by Pardew as he doesn’t want to be offered the spurs job when Arry leaves for England 😉

  7. put santon rightback ferguson leftback abied centre mid hba right wing take off simmo perch and obertan 🙁

  8. The back four as bad as they have been are being put under a ridiculous ammount of pressure by playing a wide open 442 with a full back in midfield.

Cant play so open with these players with Tiote and Cabaye possibly but perch and guthrie??

  9. tbh spurs are looking like champion contenders.
If they hadn’t had a bad start to the season they could so easily be top.
meh we have a long way to go to get anywhere near that level

  10. BB@ 162 have to disagree Nolan wasn’t that player I watch him dissapear loads of times aswell Liverpool being the highlight when he went awol for the whole game.
I’m not having a go at Colo but he might set an example but he is not a commander of men

  11. Big Dave @ 160

    Oh yeah my mistake.
    Spuds have just been lucky.
And we haven’t played poorly – we’ve just been unlucky.
    😳

  12. HBA, I hsve said for a while now, young Shane Ferguson is a good player and always look calm and steady when he plays for the senior side. I think you are right, drop Simmo to give him a reality check. Put Santon on the right and give Ferguson a chance. He deserves a chance.

BTW, Perch has done well recently, but he’s not up to it today. This shows why Tiote is so important to us.

  13. We are missing some key players but for once I have to agree with Michael12. Our shape is all wrong and we are playing with four attacking players with a soft centre.

  14. Truth is we been ugly for last few games and badly miss Tiote and Cabaye and Saylor . Our midfield is poor today and our right is awfull ,they running at us at will . Need to man up 2nd half and get some pride back .Thankgod Tiote will be back for Wolves .

  15. I say take of cisse or demba and bring on ben arfa playing him in a center midfield to help us in that area where were losing badly! and then he can go up and help the attack!

    but we’re rubbish

  16. fair point Big D but you get my point.
I agree colo is no leader of men when the chips are down

  17. ‘ lads will be getting a roasting right now, and so they should.’

I agree. Although to footballers a ‘roasting’ apparently is something they do on nights out.

  18. Look guys you cannot simply put a square into a triangle hole. What workedfor us in the last game is not necessarily going to work in the next. The opportunities, weaknesses and threats are not going to be the same. Playing the same tactics as we did in the last game is simply ignoring the opportunities, weaknesses and threats of the opponent.

There is a reason e#we have been the most inconsistent PERFORMANCE team this season. Beating united 3-0 to losing to Fulham 5-2. Going from looking so good to looking sooooooo bad it is simply not possible for professional players to look world class one day and like fans playing for the team the next without someone questioning the tactics.

Colo has been so class this season yet there are games he has looked like an amateur what brings about this sudden and dramatic change?
Him or the tactics? We needed from the get go to play possession football.

  19. We just cannot make simple passes. We certainly can’t run and make a simple pass at the same time. We have players who have to stop before they pass and then they have the ball taken off them.

I say we should pack our bags and go home. There is no way back for us now. Tottenham are jus too good.

  21. is it me or are keegan and barnes loving this the smile on barnes face was as wide as the tyne and keegan is too smug for my liking 👿

  22. Pootle @ 174 never worry it’s an easy mistake to make 😀

lacedaemonian @ 181 I think we miss him a lot more tham most people think imo he was always bawling and shouting at the defence we miss his blood and guts style

      (Quote)

  23. Dont think tactics make much difference today. We have a squad of just 19 players and many senior players unavailable today. We simply do not have the strength in depth to able to cope with what Spurs can throw at us away from home.

Just the way it is. I’m not angry at Pards or the players today, this game just highlights how weak we actually are once you take away a couple of our main players…

  24. Spurs fan here I came on yesterday and mentioned that Danny Simpson is your weak link….seems I have been proven right.

This wouldnt happen if you had Tiote and Cabaye I acknowledge that.

The only other team to come to WHL and play 442 was Liverpool and we won that 4nil……big tactical mistake.

Thing is what do you do now…..take off Ba or Cisse and go 451….for what reason….if it carries on its a cricket score….ohh to be a manager

      (Quote)

  25. No, no no Lacedaemonian this is not a game of talent. Both teams have talented players. The difference is in the ideas, the plan. Spurs strength is their pace our weakness is out lack of it in defence. We are not addressing our weakness and spurs strength which is working congruently for spurs.

  26. Good move. Fergie is a good player. He needs more games, as he will be a big player for us in the years to come.

      (Quote)

  27. well said Jay.
Some of us said go 4-5-1 from the off.
this was never a game for 4-4-2
more lessons to be learnt here

  28. POOLIETOON you should here the talk sport commentary, they might as well be wiping arrys **** with their spurs tops on 👿

  29. Dave

Ye, Colo covering for Simpson and Willo. Simpson positionally is terrible unless he’s on our goal line and Willo is just too slow for Spuds.

      (Quote)

  30. Difference in class between Walker and Simpson makes me chuckle to think Simmo reads those tweets about the England squad and loves it

      (Quote)

  31. hope we call tav back simmos struggling maybe he is playing on an injury who knows…weak links on the right at times

      (Quote)

  32. aye poolie, it just goes to show what is down there. He is miles better than simmo ex manure and still manure

      (Quote)

  33. bye bye fair weather supporters 👿
