Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane!
Welcome one and all to our rather fabulous ‘Game On’ article which this evening will take us through every twist and turn of what is set to be a tough encounter.

Today we visit White Hart Lane to do battle with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur outfit but, unlike in previous years, there is actually something riding on this game.

Tottenham sit in third in the table and are looking to catch up Manchester United in second, whist we sit fifth currently – enough for Europe – and will be looking to consolidate that position. It won’t be easy of course, but at long last we have a team capable of springing a surprise result away at one of the “top” teams, in much the same way we did at Old Trafford earlier on in the season.

Anyway, there has been enough said about the match by others and I don’t have to go on about how tough it is going to be again. If you do wish to look at some more background information ahead of the match then why not check out Shamrock’s most excellent match preview or NUFC_stats’ Tottenham v Newcastle stat-attack by clicking here. They are both worth a few minutes of your time.

In terms of the match itself, it is being shown live in ESPN which is great if you can’t get to the match and fancy sitting in a pub or in front of the box with a few Saturday evening beverages. It’s also being broadcast on a lot of overseas channels so the chances of a stream should be pretty good, which is great if you fancy sitting in front of the computer with a few Saturday evening beverages… Once again, if you do stumble upon a decent stream then please feel free to share it with your fellow Magpies.

That is just about it for now and it’s up to the boys on the pitch to do the talking. Will they avoid some White Hart pain at White Hart Lane?

Howay the lads!

  1. Yeah. Getting beat 0-5 isn’t great and, yes, Spuds have looked good.
What’s disheartening is that they haven’t had to try hard to beat us.
We have been defensively poor but we’ve looked **** when we’ve had the ball too.

  2. come on pardew all is lost at least bring on hba so we can get at least a little bit of excitement

  3. we have never looked so clueless in yrs
    👿
I think its just about to get worse n all

  4. I haven’t watched any of this but listened on the radio coming home in the car and it was 28 minutes in before Calamity Mike got a mention. Says it all. Simpson never got a mention.
A midfield hub of Guthrie and Perch was never going to good enough these guys.
The reality of it is fourth and champions league while lucrative would be embarassing for the club. Europa league maybe a good idea. We have won the games this season we have had to win but we are the best of the rest. We are only two places above Norwich

  5. Jonas has been just as poor as Obertan. He cannot beat his man, he cannot cross and he cannot pass with any consistency. All he does well is track back and tackle so maybe he should be our fekking right back…

Only players to look decent are Colo, Guthrie, Santon and Cisse when he got a touch…

  6. There are no excuses to be made, we are totally outclassed.
    Reality check time peeps.

  7. Yeah but we dont need a CB according to some. No cover for injuries/suspensions, no competition to keep ’em on their toes. Bad move. Has Llambias been sacked for gross neglegence yet?

Come on lads, win back a bit of pride! Gosling good luck.

Toughest game of the season. This will be 12 unbeaten at home for Spuds. We can pick ourselves up from this, but it’d definitely a reality check.

  8. I suppose there is no real point in blaming Willo and Simmo it’s not their fault they’re not top quality, as we all ( well most ) knew that allready 😥

  9. Two thumpings in the last three weeks and a loss to Brighton. Fact is, we’re playing **** at the moment.
Desperately need Tiote and Cabaye back…

  10. Stevo @ 217

    Simmo is struggling.

That is an every week occurrence. Must be permanently injured

  11. True Dave, Willo has done well for the majority of this season and last – but he does not have the killer instinct Saylor has. We need that bite, something we miss badly when he, Tiote and Cabaye are out.

Hopefully it will be put right this summer. I still say Willo is a good player to keep as part of the squad, but we should have made that signing in January. Time will tell if it costs us or not. We have to remeber Spurs are a class above us and we have a lot of absentees. This was alsways going to end badly, just a shame it had to be 5-0 badly with time still on the clock!

  12. Reality check? Why? Because we aren’t gonna finish 4th? Or we aren’t as good as Spurs who were in the Cahmpion’s League last season while we were supposed to be fighting relegation? Howay man.

    It’s a **** up. **** happens.

Arsenal got bummed off Man U earlier in the season and they’re now 4th. Manure got bummed off Shitty and they’re top of the friggin league!

  13. When you look at the players Spurs have on the bench then look at ours, its says everything.

I see no point at having HBA on the bench – convinced AP has no intention of playing him.

      (Quote)

  14. is there 4 colos playing ❓ he must be sick playing rightback leftback centrehalf and midfield he is the only one putting a shift in covering everyone else

  15. Ah these things happen, we weren’t going to beat them with the whole positive Arry Redknapp thing going on…let’s move on and hopefully not concede again

  16. Big Dave – and you wonder why you get called a negger! 🙄

****** hell man – look at how waiting for a new striker panned out FFS!!

Can you just not put your hatred of Ashley aside for one second?

      (Quote)

  17. TC – A lot of talk has gone on recently about the Champion’s League, from dreamers and even Pards himself. That’s why this is a reality check. We are not good enough in depth to compete consistently with the elite. Yet. We just might be in 2 or 3 years if we are managed correctly in the transfwer market though..

      (Quote)

  18. ” By far our worst performance of the season!”

Don’t agree with that. We’ve had a few bad performances this season but most of them haven’t been against a team in as good form as Spuds.

Shamrock, don’t you realise that not getting in another defender was just a ‘very small risk’ and worth taking so we can get ‘the right deal’ in the summer. Lol.

      (Quote)

  19. TC
Wake up man. When you look at our performances and the amount of chances the sides have created against us this result has been coming.

We were always likely to lose this game but the failure to strengthen our denfence this transfer window has been a huge mistake!

      (Quote)

  20. Shammy – I’ve heard Pards talk of Europe but not Champions League.

Not disputing he did just not heard it myself.

Personally, I don’t think we will anyway. But in all seriousness we’re 1 point off 4th, and it’s not as if we have to play the form team away from home every week – so I can sympathise with those who dare to dream!

      (Quote)

  21. TC you might be able to forgive and forget what Jabba has done, but i’ll not be bowing down to him like you and a few others. it was obvious that we needed strengthning and they neglected to do that.

      (Quote)

  22. Hehe, problem is Pootle – If we are not in Europe next season we will likely lose Tiote, Ba and maybe Krul whilst none of the available good wuality free’s will want to join us – as we’ll be steppingback into mid table obscurity again – but it’s a risk worth taking!

      (Quote)

  23. When the games finished have a look at the Sky Sports stats for the match, there are some really interesting facts there, last week against Villa we had 218 misplaced passes, against Brighton it was 178. Think that tells a story on its own – we cannot keep possession, so if we aint got the ball the opposition have it and the result is 5 goals

      (Quote)

  24. JJ – wake up yourself. We’re doing fckin brilliant. Yeah we’ve been bummed today but we’re not the only team to be humiliated this season.

      (Quote)

  25. We can still qualify even after this performance with our fixtures compared to others…shows how fickle some fans are. Each game changes the outlook when there happens to be 38 in a season

      (Quote)

  26. Toon chicken – Why not let people have their own opinion and stop castergating them for having it!

If nobody had an opinion you’d be on here on your own, although I’m assuming you’ll be use to that.

      (Quote)

  27. shamdick – who ever said that ?
yous are pathetic revelling in being right. 👿
well done you must feel so BIG
    Ha knobs

      (Quote)

  28. The game plan today has been faeces to say the least. Colo does not have pace and cannot cope well against it. Why would you then put him a position that is exposing his weakness i.e. high line. Spurs are better any day but not so much so that we are 5-0 down. Pardew is trying to put a square into a triangle hole i.e. ignoring the threats and opportunities on offer and simply hoping. Pardew I tell you is incompetent as a manager. Does not address anything. This is why one week a player looks like a world beater only to look like a fool the next.

      (Quote)

  29. Peter lovenkrands why????? Just because he can it is an insult to a player to put him on under these circumstances.

      (Quote)

  30. Stuey – chill out pet. Didn’t think I was castigating anyone. I’m merely defending the honour of the team I love 😉

      (Quote)

  31. TC its not the 1st game we have been humiliated this season.
Oh and by the way I have never wondered way I get called a negger on here, I allready know why, so try not to tell me what im wondering or thinking. I get called a negger because I think its criminal that we never got a CB in and because I don’t think Jabba is God 😉

      (Quote)

  32. Ow BB I’m sooo insulted. It’s no suprise we are losing today and there is no shame in it. Weare having a blinding season and I’m proud of the lads, howeverwe took a big risk not getting cover at the back and I stand by my opinion. Not quite sure why are taking this so personally, I have not directed 1 comment towards you.

Grow up, no need to start the personal insults 😉

      (Quote)

  33. Moreno
It’s not a case of fans being fickle…
It’s more a case of fans being proud what the players have achieved this season playing above themselves, and we’re disappointed the owner didn’t take advantage if that, by strengthening a glaring lack of depth in defence…

Different view points doesn’t mean fans are supporting the team. That’s what the dreamers don’t get… Just because things are going really well doesn’t mean mistakes weren’t made… ❓ 😕

      (Quote)

  34. And Davey – this is the trouble with your lot. You think that anyone who doesnt think Ashley is the devil incarnate has their head up his ****.

Beleive it or not but I actually think that Ashley has made some mega **** ups. I also think that he has got things just about spot on this season. And if the right player wasn’t available for the right money then fair do’s. It was the same story with a striker in the summer and look how that has panned out. We have the best strike force outside the top 4 and we’re on course for our best season in donkeys years.

  35. I’m just fucking raggied oot man and dont need to read the constant clever comments from some.
    wots the point?
    This hurts

      (Quote)

  36. I honestly though Merson was pissed with his prediction!!

This has been men against boys today like!!

This has nowt to do with who we didn’t get in in Jan this like.

We have to keep perspective here though, every team has a game where they get a hiding.

We can’t let this effect our season too much … There’s still loads of points to play for.

But god we’ve been poor today

      (Quote)

  37. Hold on JJ.

I think you are confusing me with someone who think the board have strengthened enough recently.

    You are mistaken.

That’s not my argument here, all I am saying is that the gulf between us and champions league contenders is huge. Are the board to blame for that? Yes. Do I understand it…yes. Champions League wasn’t our goal

      (Quote)

  38. Dudes – I suggest we take a collective chill pill. You don’t get docked points for an *** whipping last time I checked and it didn’t do Arsenal or Manure any harm.

    On to the next one!!

    TooooooooooooooN Army!!! 😀

      (Quote)

  39. oh well thats the hardest game of the season out the way!! they need to act together as it was disgusting!! roll on cabaye n tiote back and playing easier teams haha !! hwtl

      (Quote)

  40. TC do you think its a good thing there is nobody to competw with Simpson for that right back position. No one to compete with Santon at left back, and no back up at all in central defence? We still have 13 games to pray we get through with injuries or suspensions…

And then there are still clowns that tell me we’d be unlucky to lose another defender… We took a good risk! I can only laugh at that ignorance..

      (Quote)

  41. JJ man you and others should give it a rest sometimes. What does us not signing cover at the back have to do AT ALL with the result today?

      (Quote)

  42. i believe we have come a long way in 2 years but, bloody hell we have a lot further to go.ps i need whatever rodzilla has in the evenings as tonight is not going to be good 👿
