Cheers Andy!
For scoring the winner yesterday and putting us within reach of Europe for the first time in five years.

However, contrary to what some people seem to be saying, the goal yesterday was one for himself and not for us. I don’t mind that at all as it’s done us a favour, but the very notion that us qualifying for Europe was in the mind of the Liverpool number nine is, to be frank, utter pony.

Lest we not forget that team continuity and progression wasn’t exactly in the mind of Carroll back in January 2011 when he hopped on Mike Ashley’s chopper and turned up at Melwood grinning from ear to ear, so why would that suddenly change?

However it is ironic that the moment he walked out on us/left us/was pushed out (delete as appropriate, although I’ll never buy the pushed out theory) our fortunes improved as a football club. Suddenly we had a vast swathe of cash, and look what it has done for us.

At this moment in time it would appear that the decision to sell Andy Carroll or £35m has worked out a treat. It didn’t feel like it at the time as questions arose over Derek Llambias’ assertion that the money would be spent on the team, but just 13 months later the time for questioning is over and the results are in.

Right now we have a team with quality that I’ve not seen in a long time at St James’ Park. Yes there is still work to do and we can still improve, like any team, but to go from Championship to Europe in two seasons is pretty staggering by any stretch of the imagination.

So thank you Andy Carroll,not just for the goal yesterday that made us odds on favourites to play in Europe once more, but for also providing a legacy that has allowed our team to grow at a pace that has exasperated even the most positive NUFC fan.

P.S – If articles are a bit thin on the ground over the next day or so, it’s because I’m in hospital my wife as she gives birth to my child. If there is any news I’ll let you all know in due course.

    How the mighty have fallen. I remember when Liverpool fans use to argue with Manchester United etc about trophies.

    Liverpool fans can feel free to boast to NUFC fans about their trophies etc, I’m more concerned about our FUTURE.

    Truth is, I hate Liverpool as much as I hate Sunderland. Nowt personal to you as I’ve never met you. But I think most Liverpool fans are deluded. Good cup team and your trophy cabinet shows that but you have never been a constant threat on the top 4. Granted Liverpool are a big club revenue wise but overrated and arrogant would be my opinion of Liverpool.

  19. Our “dillusional” chum (thats delusional to educated folk) seems to think that liverpool will be back next season and were going to drop and sell our best players (even mentioning carroll as an example 😆 )

    Any sensible neutral fan watching their season will say that they are an average side with most of their star turns past their best with no adequate replacements in sight, A dreadful manager, A decaying shithole of a stadium and a woeful signing policy.

    But hey-ho if you are happy masking those flaws with a couple of cup runs (kennys old SJP act) then good luck to you because you will need it, You are being overtaken left right and centre by clubs who dont win trophies but are run correctly and will certainly have brighter futures than yours…

I presume your a Liverpool fan ,you would do well to understand that your beloved club has gone from being universaly respected and admired to being loathed and held up as being racist to the last man , all due to the inept way you dealt with and supported Suarez. The bottom line is Carroll could of been a hero with Toon but now he’s gone and we have seen that we have profited emormously cash and players wise. Don’t be bitter towards us just because we have a superior league placing than you and considerably better forward line as well. I realise it’s hard to accept your no longer a force to be reckoned with but ,hey there it is.As for Trophys ,yes I would love an F.A CUPbut I also love the CL place idea too as that’s what attracks top players ,holds on to our top players and brings in the cash.
