Game On! Newcastle v Stoke

St James' Park.

St James' Park.
Game on against Stoke!
Welcome one and all to our ‘Game On’ article which this afternoon will oversee the visit of Stoke City to St James’ Park.

Three points is a must if Newcastle are to keep up any lingering hopes of stealing a place in the Champions League for next season, but three points would also help us on our way to guaranteeing European football for next season via the Europa League.

It’s not going to be easy and patience may be needed today as we set about breaking down a Stoke side who will look to nullify our own threat first and foremost before presenting any threat of their own. However they are always a danger at set pieces and one lapse in concentration at the back may be enough to have us chasing the game and looking for a way back into it.

Anyway, no more waffle is needed really. We know what is needed and, by listening to some of the players during the week, so do they. All we can do is wait and see how it pans out.

However, if you are a bit more information, maybe some stats or injury news then you could always have a look at our Stat Attack or Match Preview if you haven’t already done so. Both are worth a read but, as always, the Stat Attack brings an insight into the game that goes far deeper than many other sites out there.

That wraps it up really. Team news is featured below and will be updated as and when the full teamsheet becomes available. Also the game is not on TV here in the UK so if anybody just happens to stumble across a stream that looks useful the please feel free to share the link with your fellow NUFC fans.

  2. We are totally in control!!!
This team is amazing, i haven’t seen Newcastle play like that in years!!

    Lets crush em 5-0

  3. A goal for Papiss Cisse would mean that he’d scored in six successive PL games – the first player to achieve that feat this season (Wayne Rooney, Rafael Van der Vaart and Robin Persie all got to five before drawing a blank).

    WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

  4. Artnoon from Devon, lads and lasses. As I’m expected to provide punditry on Ian Wright’s show later, can I just open with the kind of incisive, intelligent and considered observation we expect on such shows?

****, we are good, aren’t we?

  5. Tiote has tried to be a bit too fancy with his passing… He’s been out for a while so understandable. That’s four he has passed to the oppostion though…

  6. Ridiculous control by hba on that crossfield pass. Toonsy, you need to get a drooling icon for next season 😉

  7. Do need to be careful though, they can make goals out of nothing-ala set pieces.

Come on lads, lets bury em

  8. @Dubtoon…ridiculous is the word when it comes to Ben Arfa. I haven’t seen this kind of confidence and pomp since the first Keegan era

  9. Dave…makes no odds if you watch something if you don’t have the mental capacity to absorb and understand what you’re seeing 😉

  10. Dave,

Simmo is extremely sound defensively. It’s just when he has the ball at his feet he doesn’t seem comfortable. But he is a good player and I hope we keep him.

  11. Well we need another 2 for my 4.0 prediction ,got to have Ba on the score sheet . He is working his socks off and deserves a goal ,really hope he can get one ….or two 😀

  12. Jeff just said cisse was first newcastle player to score in 6 consecutive games in pl. Shearer scored in 7 in a row no? Maybe that was at Bburn?

  13. I notice how the front 4 constantly interchanges position, e.g: Cabaye played Left, central and right midfield. Brilliant idea as Stoke’s defence just don’t know who to mark. Notice how central Ba is playing today

  14. Ba’s work rate is incredible, but just doesn’t seem to be happening for him again today. Fingers crossed he gets a goal.

Off topic – I love american commentary.
