Does Adam Campbell’s Cardiff appearance signal the end of our striker hunt?

Adam Campbell – One to watch!
Adam Campbell looks set to be handed a chance to impress in the friendly match against Cardiff this afternoon.

You would be hard pushed to deny a player who has scored goals so freely at youth and reserve levels a chance in the first team and I hope, as a local lad, he takes the chance with both hands and manages to force his way up our striking pecking order.

However I can’t help but feel that his inclusion signals the end of our striker hunt. Maybe I’m just being paranoid and perhaps Campbell would, and probably should to be fair, get some first team game time in a match that doesn’t have a lot resting on it anyway, but what if this is not only Campbell’s chance to impress but also Alan Pardew’s chance to see if he can get by with what he has up front, at least until January anyway?

Maybe it’s a bit of both. Campbell deserves a chance at the end of the day and if he can show that he can contribute then it’s all well and good, but if he does show he can contribute will it mean our hunt for a striker to bolster our ranks has come to an end?

I have no issue with Campbell taking, say, Leon Best’s place in the squad for example. Best was a squad player who came in when called upon and it will be great experience for Campbell if he found himself cast in that role, but if that is to be the case then we need another striker through the door. If injuries hit us and we lose Cisse and Ba or if they somehow qualify for ACoN we’ll be pretty screwed with Campbell and Shola Ameobi as our only two strikers. It’s a lot to ask of the lad.

One way around it is to look for a player with potential who could do a job now and that doesn’t cost the earth. I’m thinking someone like Jordan Rhodes who wouldn’t come cheap exactly but would cost less than the reported bids we’ve made for Luuk de Jong and wouldn’t command a wage of an Andy Carroll for example.

Maybe I’m just reading far too much about it. Mind you, I am a bit of a worrier at times…

Best of luck to Adam Campbell and may he take his chance this afternoon with both hands!

  1. Sorry Newkie

I’m wasting my time trying to get thru to you. The second you used Aussie as a credible witness then you lost the argument. 🙂

Newkie, I’m sure a lot of people say a lot of things away from this blog. But to quote them on this blog is ridiculous.
I had been discussing spending £20m this window and it was in context to a discussion we were having and you weren’t involved.
You then came in with a quote about spending £30m season on season.
If you can’t see the point then I suggest you peel your banana and swing from the trees. 😛

  2. TC : 😉

Nah I like a bit of debate me, though people never really change their minds (including me) so most of it on here is the same stuff recycled over and over again 😆

  3. Newkie, just like Troy said Carroll was on 120k a week at Liverpool and that Tiote an Krul would be sold last year for 15m ea or that there was going to be some catylclismic news about Pardew quitting… Every one makes mistakes.. 🙂 🙂

  4. Dave-some people lost their jobs, for sure. But many didn’t. And people the whole world over pay for it. My point was life isn’t black and white (no pun intended, 😛 ) Point is though, if you go off and say, okay, Ashley bought the club-all the debt is his and its his problem and he needs to deal with it himself, well you can’t really voice an opinion about anything else about the club can you? Because on the same level, he bought the club, the debt is his which you say he has to solve on his own, well the club is his, and unfortunately he’ll run it as he wants 😕

My point with tescos was just a business thing. Tescos try to keep their customers happy in certain regards so they keep returning. I suppose you’re getting at the fact that Ashley isn’t buying players and so isn’t keeping the customers/fans happy? Perhaps Ashley’s version of that was appointing Pardew and playing good football as we did, particularly at the end of last season?

Bit skimpy I know, but what can ya do!

Sorry buddy, didn’t mean to get you involved but I had to call in the reiforcements, I can only type so much alone 😛

  8. Troy- 😆 Now now I know those down under don’t have the best of reputations but Aussie is a good lad

I’m surprised how defensive you got about the whole issue really, like you said I wasn’t even discussing it with you 😕 but you came out afterwards like a wounded animal and acted as if my post was aimed right at you, the world doesn’t revolve around you matey! There were a lot of posters that day and I remember Rod talking about money interspersed with his other magical musings and rather than read every single post I thought hey-Aussie summed up my thoughts pretty well, i’ll AGREE with that. So that includes any spending from 20-30, I didn’t need to say it myself.

And blimey, there was no quote, so stop going on about it 😆

  9. Brisvegas-Don’t lose hope mate, I may have been going round in circles for the last 3 years or so, especially with Dave as we seem to disagree on a lot, but eventually I might convert him…. 😀

Troy though, there is no hope for that one 😛

  11. Aussie-Shame….don’t suppose Spider is still playing is he? Think I only supported St Kilda because they had him, I met him once and he was born in Mornington where I used to live 😆

  12. Newkie you have more chance of getting Jabba to spend £50 mil every yr than converting me 😀 .
As you say we don’t always agree but we can debate things and after all thats what the blogs for, so we’re adding to it, there is some come on here and add absolutly fuk all to the blog except to try to have a pop at some .

  13. Dave 😆
Aye on that we agree, debating is fine but when people get smarmy or the insults come out it gets a bit tiresome 😕

  15. Susan@122 ,I don’t think Rangers can loan that many off us as the rules state that you can only loan a maximum of 4 players in any one season .

  16. **** off Newkie and Big Dave. 🙂 🙂 I liked you more when you were both arguing 🙂 🙂

      (Quote)

  17. Kim I don’t think we have 4 we could loan out anyway unless we get 2 or 3 more in before the window slams shut. On Sid yeah he was the voice of darts.
Aussie never worry mate we’ll look after ye and try to keep you right 😉

  18. Not sure what I think about this Rangers link…if they got to the top league again then loaning out some young fringe players would be alright, there’s not too much difference between their premiership and our championship, but loaning players to them in the third division 😕 Guess we could just give them our reserves….

      (Quote)

  19. Newkie theres nowt for you to be ashamed of getting the silver medal, after all you were up against the triple gold medalist Big Dave.
I suppose we could sling Aussie a bronze just for his support and to help his countries poor tally of medals. 😆

  22. Ice-Didn’t realise that…More bad news for him and England then I expect, he’s definitely a talent, but he’ll probably be wasted at City just like Johnson….

Still, at least he’s a defensive mid, I’m sure Mancini would field 11 of them if he could 😆

The crowd are lovin the sheer arrogance of Troy surfing the breakers whilst smokin a cheroot the size of a paddle. 😯

The three black sheep, Newkie, Chicken & Aussie were put in the pen beautifully.

And that’s the end of one man & his dog this week. 😛 😛

  34. Vurnon Anita best position is DMF,not as fullback.

Once he played at his favourite position, Ajax won fourteen games in a row and were crowned as champions of Holland for the second year in a row.

    😉

Now that got me thinking,is he a competition for tiote spot,or to replace him. 😐

    Suppose there’s a bit time yet. 🙄

  38. A Tiote Anita partnership in front of the back 4 would give the defence a lot of protection . Anita is good on the ball and a more creative player than Tiote but does get stuck in as well .

  39. Maybe our hammering at the hands of Cardiff yesterday has motivated Ashley into splashing the cash . A bit of reality hit home and panick setting in . 😀

  40. I wouldn’t imagine Anita would be coming here unless he was pretty sure he would get games 😯
Axel @ 215 so what 4 have you infront of Tiote and Anita

      (Quote)

  41. Playing Tiote and Anita would allow Cabaye to push forward. Always thought he looked better in a more advanced role and he could certainly score a few goals.

      (Quote)

  44. Ah just what we need, another midfielder or a squaddie who can play full back, we were low on those 😉

Still, Tiote did miss a lot of games last season through occasional knocks. Couple of those mixed in with internationals and the odd suspension or two and Anita could play a whole season’s worth of games even if he wasn’t in the first team.
