Game On! Manchester United v Newcastle United

Game On at Old Trafford
Welcome one and all to our ‘Game On’ article which this evening will take us through every twist and turn of the third round League Cup (or Capital One Cup as it’s known now) ti against Manchester United.

It’s not going to be an easy match. Going to Old Trafford is tough whatever team Sir Alex Ferguson ultimately decides to name, but to progress in the competition we’ll have to beat the perennial title contenders and cup winners in their own back yard.

The League Cup is generally known as a competition that more teams can win. The feeling is that the big boys don’t really give it their full attention and play weakened teams giving other sides more of a chance of progressing. Personally I think it’s a bit of a myth and all managers name a team that they believe can win the game on the night whilst balancing the requirements of their squad. Look at the winners and you’ll see the same, familiar names popping up…

To get a result we’ll need the referee to be fair and unbiased. I hope Manchester born Wythenshawe resident, Anthony Taylor, can do just that. Personally I don’t think it’s right that a referee can take charge of a game that is five miles away from his house at this level of football but then that is just my opinion. Besides, you never know, he might be a fan of the blue half of Manchester anyway!

As ever team news will be detailed below as and when it becomes available and for a little bit of background on the fixture you can always have a look at my match preview by clicking here.

As mentioned in said preview, the game is live on Sky tonight which is fine for me and the others that aren’t going to the game, but those outside of the UK or those that don’t have Sky may need a hand so if anyone can find a decent stream of the game then please feel free to share it via the ‘comments’ section below.

Which just about wraps it up.

  1. Richietoon I would categorise it more as half a Coleman 😆

    Agreed….Williamson has been absolutely garbage….

  2. MUNICH MAG Vuckic did not just look poor ,he is poor . I am afraid too say that the lad looked promising but has failed up until now to deliver . There comes a point when we have to accept that he is not up to premiership standard . Gosling is the same average at best .

  3. Dave – The sun has shone out of Colo’s **** all game long whilst bluebirds nest in his golden locks. He’s truly dreamy and never does anything wrong ever 😀

  4. Toby Le Rhone@70 😯 😯 😯 Go and have a lie down man… When I say Vikic has been poor I mean….err…he has been poor…. 🙄

Open your eyes man, he doesn’t have it. I just want to the bloke to contribute against a really young Man Utd side. You are going on about scoring a hat trick …they are your words mate, not mine… 😉

I seriously doubt anyone would have complained if Willo tried to block a shot. But to make no effort at all is disgraceful defending.

Bit of a desperate effort to defend him really.

The only thing I can say is that tonight the other defenders havnt been much better. Including Colo.

  6. Dave…he dove in and missed a tackle near the touchline which I think resulted in Elliott having to make a save….bit we’re not allowed to mention it 😉

  7. Toonsy just think another 2 days mate 😉

Willo should get a fuking skinhead then he wouldn’t have to spend as much time fixing his barnet 😀

Maybe. But then maybe I see fault with Gosling who just breezed out of the way of Anderson and allowed the time and space for the shot in the first place. Maybe I just think some of the criticism Williamson gets is harsh and maybe (in fact certainly) I believe that some people just look to pin anything they can on him 😉

Indeed. A well earned break from work from the UK and from this place now I’ve decided to leave the laptop at home 🙂

  10. Cisse warming up and the lad didn’t have a clue what Pardew was saying to him…

Well that was truly ***** defending 2-0 what a crock.

  11. Apparently a lack of fitness is to blame for Tiotes loose tackles ,according to Smithy commentating 🙄 They aint watched him much then I take it 😆

Like I said. Desperate defending of Williamson.

He could have done better position wise. But he was wrong footed. Williamson wasn’t…

Great play Fergie. Cisse back on the scoresheet!

  13. They put out a great attacking team with 3 strikers and a very good midfield. But an excellent cross from Ferguson and a good finish from Cisse!!!

Being honest buddy, I couldn’t really give two tosses if that is what you think. It’s what I think, end of, and I’ll stick with it if it’s all the same.

  15. Man we cannot keep a hold of the ball …..

Young Fergie has done brilliantly for 10 minutes…well done the lad !!

  16. FSOTC@134….I reckon Bigi might improve the team if he came on to be honest. We should rest Tiote for the weekend…

  17. MM – Sod resting him. Take him off for his own good as he’s already on a yellow card. He got booked for the challenge in the build up to Man Utd’s second goal

  18. Toonsy…to be honest I agree with you. First game back and all that, but he’s looked rusty, which is to be expected. Young Bigi will give us a new impetus…
