Game On! Liverpool v Newcastle

Newcastle head to Anfield
Newcastle head to Anfield this afternoon looking to make a dent in what has been a horrible record at Anfield over the years.

Since the Premier League began, we’ve won there just once. In fact in our entire history we’ve won just 15 times in 81 attempts on the red half of Merseyside. Not good.

The annoying thing is I already have a suspicion of how the game will pan out today, a suspicion born out of years of going to Anfield and under-performing under various different managers and with various different teams. Whatever it is, it just seems as though there is something that will always get in the way of us giving a good performance at Anfield and that must change today if we are to get anything out of the game.

This Liverpool team are far removed from the all-conquering sides of the past. They simply aren’t as good as they once where and should be there for the taking. There is no reason why we can’t get a result there today, but I just feel that we won’t. Call it pessimism if you like…

My match preview is online and can be viewed by clicking here should you wish to have a gander at it. It features injury news for both sides, a brief history of meetings between the two sides and some stats and facts for your delectation.

The game itself is being beamed all around the world and is being showed live on Sky here in the UK. I don’t envisage there being an issue with finding a stream should you need to, but if any of you guys happen to find an especially good one then please feel free to leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below. As ever team news will be added in full at the bottom of this article as and when it becomes available.

Which just about wraps it up. Lose and we’ll stay where we are. Draw and we’ll stay where we are although we’ll move level on points with West Brom above us. Win however and we’ll jump to sixth in the table, and with games coming up against West Ham, Swansea and Wigan at St James’ Park with trips to Southampton and Stoke sandwiched between, a positive result could be a massive springboard for us.

Howay the lads!

  1. Pleased Ba and Cisse are in but not gonna lie, I’m disappointed with the midfield selections again, not enough creativity in there for me. No offence to Jonas but I’d have sooner seen Fergie or Sammy out on the left.

    Fingers crossed …. HWTL

  2. We need Cabaye and HBA to find their scoring boots.
Cant rely purely on Ba n Cisse

  3. Sharpy maybe Jonas is there to help out in defence because he is the hardest worker in the team, but even though im a massive Jonas fan I think we need to see if Fergie offers more offensively because after all thats what a LW is about 😕

  4. We just never do well here! Why?

Sterling, Gerrard (who always seems to have a good game against us) and Suarez are their danger men.

Fancy HBA to have a good game against Enrique. Also fancy Cisse first goal.

  6. Big Dave, I’ll go with that the, much more likely. Shame as 433 would have been good, we just have to hope

  8. My sources on Twitter yesterday were correct with their team. Simpson not in the squad (don’t know why) and Saylor restored.

  9. Agree about attacking wisdom, which is why I think we should have Fergy on the park.

All I heard was he was not at the team hotel. Could be for a million and one reasons. Family might be unwell or anything.

  11. Good point BB , fergie would have a lot of joy against him. He is certainly the weak point in their defense

  12. Dave – no problem with that, I agree with Jonas being a good grafter. I wanted him in the middle with Cab and one of the young uns wide mate.

4-3-3 sounds interesting with Santon and Anita at full back tho. I’d have Perch stick to Suarez as well, get under his skin and wind him up a bit.

  13. I don’t really like having to switch defenders around, but full back seems to be Anita’s best position atm so here’s hoping he can have a good game.

  14. Fully expecting to get beat with the usual **** Anfield perfomance.
    Then I won’t be disappointed…………….. 😈

  15. Play Mr Peperoni as a DF only and give Cabaye licence to get forward to support the Demba’s.

  16. Toonsy/HITMAN,
What is most annoying is that we never appear to turn up at Anfield, we just seem to roll over, 👿

  17. TGS – Exactly. That’s what I’m trying to get across to those who kneejerk if and probably when we lose today. Better teams and better managers than we have currently have suffered the same fate. It’s like a curse 😆

I have no idea what it is but Liverpool just always find an extra gear or three against us and players that play ***** seem to hit 150% of their game against us, like Gerrard for example 👿

  18. Dave – Have you seen the trailer for that Liverpool sitcom/documentary on one of the US channels? Think it’s called “Being Liverpool” or something like that. Cringeworthy. They even have the big movie voiceover guy doing the advert with real shitty bits like “Brendan doesn’t know what biscuits to dunk in his drink, what will he do? Tune in at blah blah blah”

  20. Feel the butterflies in my stomach , I think we are going to do them! Stuck in work til 5 but will get in to catch second half. 2-0 to us today , Ba and Ben arfa

  21. Toonsy I haven’t seen it but I have heard a few Liverpool supporters that have said its so embarrassing 😀 and makes them look stupid, I seen a tiny clip of Buck shouting at some kid about talking 😳

  22. Dave – I’ve not watched it but watching the advert was cringy enough 😆

By the way you’ll have to wait for the match report. It won;t be up until tomorrow. I’m doing an overnight trip to Belgium this evening and start when the game finishes. Sorry 😉

  23. Newkie – You’ve seen it then I take it?

With no disrespect at all, because there are some footy mad Americans out there, I think it’s aimed as it is because football is still a pretty emerging sport over there so everything is broken down a bit more.

  24. Toonsy-Yeah seen a couple of episodes. Don’t know about the adverts, but I know they have Clive Owen narrating it, to give it some sort of epic feel. Hilarious really, given how gash they’ve been. Some really awkward moments about with him and Enrique in the early episodes too

  25. Dave/Toonsy – if you get the chance, watch one of those Being Liverpool. It’s as cringeworthy as The Office, only David Brent was an invented character – Brendan Rodgers is serious as hell. There’s one where he shares a lift with Enrique – don’t say a word to each other.
    It’s that ***** it’s brilliant!.

  26. Feckin Pards and his dumb promise. Why the hell is Cisse playing wide left?! He’s absolutely useless there

      (Quote)

  27. with this many questions being asked of our defence, itis just a matter of time. Ba should drop imto mid and then we should just play possession football until we take the wind out of Liverpools sails
