Colo decision expected today

Colo future still clouded in doubt
Colo future still clouded in doubt
Fabricio Coloccini’s could be sorted out one way or another today if you listen to reports in the press and the mutterings of his Father.

A meeting was believed to have been held yesterday with lawyers representing both parties present, but it would appear that the meeting ended with no resolution and further talks are scheduled for today.

Colo, apparently anyway, wants to return to Argentina to play for San Lorenzo, a team he supposedly supports and a club which his Father works currently. San Lorenzo also want to sign the player, but the issue is that Colo is under contract with us having signed a new deal last year, and San Lorenzo can’t afford to pay market value for him and basically want Newcastle to let him go for free.

All this has been muddied by rumours of personal problems which remain just that for now with, and rightly so, no confirmation on the rumours from either party. However, the words of Colo’s Father make me wonder what would happen if we just turned round and said no?

“There was an inconclusive meeting today,” Coloccini Snr told Rock and Closs on Monday. “Tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be a decision. We both desire the transfer.

“Fabricio is very anxious. He wants a decision to be made one way or another. I believe this is the moment to move. Newcastle have asked him to wait until May. The issue is if San Lorenzo will wait until that date.”

“It would be beautiful if both of us were at San Lorenzo, the club we love. Fabricio is eager to return but he wants to do so in an elegant way.”

The “he wants a decision made one way or another” part doesn’t exactly paint a picture of someone who is dead set on a move does it? Get him to stay until the summer and reassess the situation then! Also I dare say the part about Colo wanting to renege on his contract in an “elegant way” is lost a bit in translation. I’d guess amicable would have been a better word to use.

I don’t know what is going to happen with this one to be honest. I’m of the opinion that if he wants away then we must get a transfer fee for him as, whatever you think of the board, the manager, the club, right now, we aren’t a charity.

On the other hand, if his heart is set on San Lorenzo, as it is according to his Dad, then do we keep an unhappy player?

I guess we’ll see what happens soon enough.

  1. Chris G @63 Thanks for digging that out, that’s exactly what I was trying to remember, clearly badly!! So his dad has previous form for encouraging unconventional transfer moves when it comes to Colo

  2. Read somewhere on sunday that Ashley was taking personal control of negotiations for all potential transfers. Wonder if he has got as pissed off with Dekka and Charnley messing about as we have. Don’t know if it’s true but interesting that all of a sudden transfers hopefuly being concluded at a reasonable pace. Also probably has nothing to do with the fright he must have had Saturday afternoon at SJP when reality of relegation probably slapped him in the gob 😆

  3. @GraemeBailey: Newcastle agree fee for Yoan Gouffran with Bordeaux – could very well be one of four French arrivals at St James’ this week.

  4. Can’t help but thinking that while this is good news if we agree a few of these details, they are not really replacing the players we’ve lost/losing.

Mbiwa is clearly a great prospect but it’s HIGHLY unlikely that he can come in and immediately replace Colo. Sissoko will be a good addition but doesn’t help us if he arrives in the summer. Gouffran may well be great but is he really replacing Ba who assured the team 15+ goals a season?

      (Quote)

  5. Furthermore again Ashley is taking 7.5 million pounds for a striker and spending 750,000 pounds on attacking winger who can play centrally. Where’s the other 6.75m going?

      (Quote)

  6. Not sure about the Sissoko deal. Their Pres has withdrawn him from squad and more or less told him to **** off. £3m should get him now.
Praying nothing goes wrong with M’biwa – he’s the best.
On this Bordeaux guy – I must have watched him twice against us and not noticed him. Doesn’t bode well and he’s certainly no replacement for Ba.

  7. SJP14@160 ,Don’t know if this will cheer you up but Yoan Gouffran has scored 14 so far his season.

  8. sjp14… cheer up man…. anyone on here will tell you that i hate ashley more than most but even i cant be pissed off with the fact that we are getting in some quality players. I would have loved to have seen sissoko in now and not once we get to the summer as we need someone to bounce off cabs and i also want to see colo sorted out so that he comes out and stays till the summer if nothing else as this will give the newbies a smoother transition. But all that aside, signings coming into our club under that fat **** head are so rare we all need to smile today. make no mistake, there is only one reason he has done this this.. its called 3 billion premier tv money and it starts next season.

  9. SJP14-I don’t see Siss only signing a pre contract for the summer now, that sounds daft to me. Gouffran isn’t so much replacing Ba as he is complimenting Marv/Benny whilst perhaps covering for Cisse when injured. Could still backfire massively, but I guess the idea is to keep Cisse alone up top because clearly he can’t deal with competition…

As for Mbiwa, lets hope he is here to play alongside Colo…not massively confident but there we go.

  10. Should have been done in the summer but these players are Internationals and will vastly improve the team. So far we have signed Debuchy and look like adding Mbiwa, Haidara, Gouffran, and a pre season deal for Sissoko. Ok we lost Ba and might lose Colo but at least the club are bringing in some real quality. I think there may be more to come on top of that lot? The club only got about £4 million of the Ba fee with the rest going to agents @SJP14

  11. good point georgio…. why withdraw sissoko from squad now if he aint coming for another 6 months or whatever.

      (Quote)

  12. @Kim that’s the big question. I’m not saying it’s impossible and obviously he has talent it just seems like a gamble to me. I’m glad he’s been doing well this season and I think he would be a good addition. I just think we might need to add another attacking player in case he takes time to adjust.

      (Quote)

  13. Georgio I think it is possible we might get Sissoko this window but apparently his club are hiking the fee up . Hope they manage to get him this window but it depends on what they want for him with just 6 months left on his contract.

      (Quote)

  14. Craig apparently Sissoko has fallen out with their President and French journos saying that is why he is out of the squad. The President is also hiking the price up. Very strange but we will soon see.

  15. I think I’m just in a skeptical mood right now after the Remy deal, the weekend’s defeat and the cold bloody weather.

I am glad we are getting new faces in and that will get a lift to the club. I’m just questioning whether we are doing enough to add depth to the squad.

Personally if Colo stays, Sissoko comes and we get another striker in that would be a very good window.

As for the money I stand corrected 3hrs.

      (Quote)

  16. i think with our relegation situation we may well go all out get sissoko now as we need another cabayew type player so desperatley… lets go with one up front and one in the hole.. it will work better for us i think.

  17. @lee_ryder: Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye all owners of Ligue 1 champions medals. Can’t do #nufc to have such winners on board.

  18. @NUFCThreatLevel: “Operation Egodrop” where we planted Joey Barton in France and captured all the fleeing footballers is proving to be a great success. #NUFC

  19. 3hours ,That’s a good point with the calibre of some of our players now it would be scandalous to not give it a hell of a go at staying up. There would have to be something very wrong at the club to fail now ,no excuses now imo if thisw lot arrive.

  20. Very busy day for the club by the look of it. The team will have a very different look it they all come through. Is it not time to have a coach or 2 who speak French? Why entirely French incoming? Do we not spend time scouting in the rest of Europe? Just wondering what the effect of having at least 7 or 8 French speaking players in the team will have on the squad if any? I like some of the movement but not sure about Haidara. Would have preferred to focus on Sissokho. Will this unsettle Santon? He has looked poor defensively but Jonas has fallen apart and offers no cover for him when he goes forward. Too many changes might be almost as bad as too few but I think we have to do it now. Such poor planning by the owner to leave everything hanging last summer. What will Pardew’s excuse be if we continue to lose? My guess would be “we haven’t had time to bed all these players in.”

  21. geordietwo… with 13 losses out of the last 16 games i cant see this having any worse an effect.. its actually impossible. it can only get better. we are rock bottom and going out.. at least this gives us a chance.

      (Quote)

  22. Looks like BBC s Mick Lowes was right when he said the club were after 4 or 5 players a few days ago.

      (Quote)

  23. So if Haidara and Mbiwa arrive and Colo goes what about this for the game against Villa

    Krul
    Debuchy Taylor Mbiwa Haidara
    Anita Cabaye
    Obertan Marveaux Santon
    Cisse

Just think that Santon might offer more going forward than Jonas and also would cover Haidara. Obertan meanwhile has more pace than Shola.

      (Quote)

  24. Some good points there 3HW and CC. I’m actually pleased the owner is being proactive for a change 3HW don’t worry about me mate. Craig aye it had to be done. I hope we do some clearing out in the summer as well. Sell Willo and Perch to Championship sides. Get rid of Ranger any way we can. Xisco’s contract finally expires thank God. Whatever happened with him it’s far too late to change any of it now. Re-assess Gosling. Will he ever recover from all the injuries and lost playing time? I doubt it. Probably move Obertan on as well. We may be stuck with Jonas unless we can sell him on the cheap. Not sure what will happen with Tiote especially if Sissokho does come in.

      (Quote)

  25. I wonder what Remy will be thinking if we bring in all these players 😆

Probably happy counting his money though eh?

      (Quote)

  26. I doubt they would throw Haidara in right away SJP14. He will need some time at his age. I wouldn’t try moving Santon to the wing for such an important game. Pardew is a conservative type so I would think:
    Krul
    Debuchy Taylor Mbiwa Santon
    Anita Jonas
    Obertan Cabaye Marveaux
    Cisse

      (Quote)

  27. A lot will depend on what happens with Colo of course. I have my doubts we will see him in the team again. I wish him well. He played hard for us for several seasons. The personal problems are a separate issue and it’s not for us to judge.

      (Quote)

  28. SJP14
Think Gouffran would be a better option than Obertan, though tbh I don’t know much about him.

      (Quote)

  29. 3HW, Thats a nice link for data on each individual player, however he doesn’t actually answer the question in the articles title.. Lazy?

Anyway does anyone else think that we’re not getting any announcements from the club as they’ll unvail 3/4 new players at the same time as we say goodbye to Colo?

      (Quote)

  30. Yes good read, thanks for the link 3HW. Surely Gouffran wouldn’t be the replacement for Ba? I wouldn’t think so. They will hope he can replace Obertan on the wing and try for another striker surely.

  31. George Caulkin of The Times is reporting Sissko is close to signing on a pre contract. Be a good summer addidition but we could of done with him now.

      (Quote)

  32. We will still have a weak bench but we should be able to field a very good first 11 once Ben Arfa returns. Just worried about Cisse up front. Where has his touch gone? Maybe it’s vacationing in the south of France. Remy would have been just the ticket as we have already seen but we let that one slip away. Here’s hoping Gouffran comes good if we do get him.

      (Quote)

  33. @CaulkinTheTimes: Yanga-Mbiwa should be done by #Nufc tonight &, all being well, Gouffran & Haidara tomorrow. Nearing pre-contract agreement with Sissoko.

      (Quote)

  34. @CaulkinTheTimes: Still possible Sissoko could join this month if Toulouse play ball if and when that agreement is formalised. #Nufc

      (Quote)

  35. We could have pretty much a full french speaking team:

    Krul

    Debuchy Mbiwa Colo Haidara

    Sissoko
    Cabaye Marveaux

    Ben Arfa Cisse Gouffran

    French Bench:

    Amf
    Obertan
    Abeid
    Moyo

That’s 13 french speaking players if these deals go through.

And only 11 with English as their 1st language. That’s even counting Ranger and Tav.

    Allez les bleus!

      (Quote)

  36. So still no news on Colo then ❓
    Still not signed anyone yet.
you would think we were hanging on in the hope of another club coming in with better offers 😳

  37. BB
Came off the bench and made a crucial block. Maybe we should play him as a super sub, know how Pards likes to bring on DMs at the end of games. 😕

      (Quote)

  38. We need two quality strikers, and a whole new back four. Santon looks suspect at right back, and I wonder if he would be better in the middle.

      (Quote)

  39. Not particularly happy after the weekend, and while making the signings is good, I won’t feel that things have turned around until seeing it on the pitch.

We could do with a French-speaking manager next season.

  40. Wow Wellington, the ever optimist got out the wrong side of bed 2day.

cheer up m8, its what everyone has been calling for…

  41. Gouffran has confirmed on his twitter he’s joining the Toon!

Don’t know how good he is like but not sure he’s a good Ba replacement…

      (Quote)

  42. I would use Obertan as a sub up front.

However Pards will use Shola – he has not seen the obvious that when Shola is on the pitch we are playing with ten men.

      (Quote)

  43. Yoan Gouffran has tweeted “tommorow I am a Newcastle player and Iam proud .Thanks to everyone hugs and kisses”. 😆 Do the french sign off hugs and kisses 😕
