Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
Our penultimate home game of the season will see us do battle with Liverpool this afternoon, with a win having to be the ultimate aim for United.

In truth Liverpool are probably quite happy they are back to playing football after the last week, but there is no getting away from the fact that they will miss Luis Suarez.

It’s up to Newcastle to take advantage of that fact and make them pay. If they can do that and grab the three points then we’ll have just taken a huge, arguably total, step towards ensuring we have Premier League football next term. If we don’t then we look at other results and see how things are looking, but almost certainly the issue will drag on for at least another week.

Moving onto the game, and if you’d like to read a bit more background about the fixture then why not have a look at the match preview? You can view it by clicking here should you wish to update yourself on the injury situation, or take a look at the recent history between the two sides.

The game itself will be live on ESPN so there is hope for those who can’t get inside the ground to watch the game. Streams should be available as it’s being broadcast on loads of channels at home and abroad so all I ask is that if you find one then please share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news, as is always the case, will be added in at the bottom of the article as and when it becomes available. I’m at work again so once more somebody will be adding it in for me.

That’s just about it really. I’ve nothing more to say and must, like everyone, wait to see what fate awaits us this afternoon. I’ve tried not to mention it, but hopefully our efforts and endeavour are much better than what we witnessed in our last home game!

Howay the lads!

  1. @Fernando666

We have been discussing this over the last week.

Benitez, Di Matteo and Clark all mentioned among others. I would like Poyet myself! You ?

  2. Just an example. A guy like Coutinho has no chance to play with Pardew. He doesnt help enough defensively. And he knows how to make good passes.
He doesnt like this kind of players.
And put him in our team, he will looks so **** just seeing the ball ahead of him.

You can see how benny is happy to play when he comes on and we loosing down 0-2. He really doesnt care.

      (Quote)

  3. Defensuvely we were poor all season.
And GUESS who is responsible for the defenders and the tactic when we doesnt have the ball………………………PARDEW.
    What a surprise…

      (Quote)

  4. Pardew’s statements don’t sound like those of a man who is about to resign do they? He went down the tunnel today like he was shot out of a gun. Makes me sick to see him run away. Stand and take it like a man Pardew. Wait for your players to finish coming off. Don’t show them your back running away from the supporters. 👿

      (Quote)

  5. AP has given up as have all the players. who would i have as a manger…. its a pointless question as we will never get a manager under ashley. he was turned down by 27 working mangers before ending up with joe kinnear. then when he was finished we had to go to an unemployed one to take the spot.

      (Quote)

  6. I said this from last season. I was the only voice saying Pardew is **** and people crucified me. Beginning of the game he had his excuse ready:

He said he feared that Suarez absent would motivate Liverpool even more to get the three points.

He has to go and should have done so months ago. I said it again results would not change even after the influx of french players and I have been proven right.

      (Quote)

  7. I don’t even care who gets put in charge next i just want Pardew out. Give me Joe Kinnear over AP 😀

Sounds like he is blaming the new french players on that defeat lol 😳 😳 😳

I think that is the worst defeat i have ever seen as a Newcastle fan. Funny how i am a slightly more optimistic that AP will get the sack before the end of the season.

  8. Craig

Stop talking so much rubbish we are far better of financially than we ever were under FS. We have less debt under Ashley and the only reason we are in debt under him is because he paid of our previous debt lol.

Show me any proof that 1 manager turned us down before JK?

      (Quote)

  9. its our biggest defeat since 1925… not bad going.. how can AP blame the french.. he picked them.. this is his team ffs… the players are good its the manager that is ****…

      (Quote)

  10. SANTI .. we have just over 150 million listed as debt right now.. that is way more than when the fat turd bought us.

      (Quote)

  11. I would argue we are financially better off as long as Ashley doesn’t call in his debt. How would that work? We would need someone familiar with this type of thing. We will have a net profit again this season and an even bigger one next season with the new TV contract. However from a football perspective we’re deep in the brown stuff. The only way we’ll find out if this can become a decent team on the rise again would be to get a first class manager in. I don’t see any other option for Ashley and the board at this point. We can stagger over the finish line and stay up (I think) this season but Pardew needs to be sacked if he won’t resign in the summer.

  12. G2@304 your right,in fact ime making no more comments the guy just makes me sick in the gut, pity he doesnt have guts and walk

      (Quote)

  13. santi.. i cant be arsed… its easy to find.. there are loads of prem stats sites.. just pick one and go on it… look at our current bill which is 69% and our debt levels compared to that when we were under FF.
When ashley bought NUFC our debt was just under 100 million now its 50% higher @150 million.

  14. Aye icedog @314, it’s making me sick as well. Would like to hear from others like Big Dave, Munich Mag, Troy, Newkie etc. I know it’s difficult to stay calm and think about it right now but what do you think? I’m at a loss with Pardew at this point but running away at the last whistle was a new low for me. You have to be their to support your players after a loss like that, not running down the tunnel.

      (Quote)

  15. Geordietwo… there is no chance of us staying up. you are kididng yourself i am afraid. we have played one game more than villa so if they win their game they go over us and we are then 4th bottom. if wigan win their game they will be level on games played and 1 point behind.. they will overtake us as everything is a habit…losing is a habit and its all we ever do. Wigan will stay up and we will be going down.

      (Quote)

  16. G2 wasnt going to comment again but ime with you 100% the lads your speaking about will still be in shock i think 🙁

      (Quote)

  17. I have been convinced from the start of his time as owner that Ashley had no football knowledge or ambition and that we the supporters were going to be the ones to suffer. Nobody would have predicted the disaster of the last 2 home games but it has been evident for a long time that Ashley can’t make the jump from tat shop owner to football club owner. I don’t think he really has the right mentality to be a success in football. This leaves the question where will the club go from here? Right now I would say we just don’t have a clue. It’s time for Ashley to step in and make the right move as far as a manager is concerned. And no more 8 years contracts which was complete bollocks from the start.

      (Quote)

  18. There isn’t a cat in hells chance we’ll stay up . The only chance we have is if Wigan or Villa capitulate and frankly I have seen much more cohesion and spirit and good tactics by those two teams compared to us. The team set up today was dreadfull far far far too negative ,we were the home team but Pards set us up to defend all game and it’s a recipe for disaster .By the time panic set in and we shipped two goals it was already too late for Benny and Goofy to make a difference cause they would catch us on the counter attack when we were pressing. Cisse will be off end of the season as who the hell would want to play in such an isolated role .It’s a sheer waste of his ability as is leaving Benny and Goofy on the bench ,I’m fecking steaming about it .

      (Quote)

  19. @ Oblong
I would like to see Solksjaer to be honest. Great record at reserve level at Old Trafford as well as Norway.
Maybe Di Matteo as well. Clark is a good shout too. Benitez would want a war chest to reinvest I would think.

      (Quote)

  20. Aye icedog @319 I can understand them still being in shock mate. I know I am. I think I’ll have nightmares about this game tonight. Unbelievable. It is certain to let loose a new avalanche of criticism for Pardew and I can’t say I blame people.

      (Quote)

  21. I can’t see us surviving now tbh. We are so fucking lucky that Wigan conceded in the last minute. Good to see that gave us a bit of a boost, bloody hell.
I’m trying to grasp for a silver lining, maybe this hammering will kick Ashley into gear and he’ll splash on a manager (in the same way he got forced into a January splash)
No defending the team selection today, how the hell could you not play Gouffran.
We effectively got -1 points today by completely losing our goal difference advantage.
And now we need a huge favour from the fucking mackems.

      (Quote)

  22. Craig I think our debt with FS was £135mil and yeah our wages to turnover is higher now although I dont know how after getting shot of a few high earners.

      (Quote)

  23. I understand your anger Kimtoon @322 and CC @318 but we still have a chance to stay up. I hope Pardew resigns or the board forces him out but we can still get a draw or a win at QPR. That would leave us with 38 points at least. Wigan and Villa play each other in the last game so if they don’t share the points (and 1 apiece is no good for either) then one or the other will lose that game. There is still hope for us but only because a few other teams are **** poor as well. 😥 Don’t give up hope for the club yet. I’m writing Pardew off but not the club.

      (Quote)

  24. As for Pards saying Colo will have to come in next game for sure ,like he would of made a difference today ,he must of forgotten how he got skinned by Suarez 🙄 😳 previously.

      (Quote)

  25. G2 38 points will not be enough ,I don’t even think 40 will tbh ,reckon it may take 42 ish., That’s two wins from 3games not gonna happen .

      (Quote)

  26. It’s a shame as he defo has love for the club ,but he needs to be much braver with his team formation .

      (Quote)

  27. I’ll never write the club off as it’s the supporters that make the club. I wouldn’t have left the ground before the end today either if I’d been privileged enough to be there. But we’re in the sad state of big changes needing to be made once again. This has got to be a shocker for some of the foreign players who have played on winning teams recently. How will they react to this? If I was Ashley I would be thinking about that as well. A strong hand is needed now especially.

      (Quote)

  28. @Craig

Mike Ashley paid off all our previous debt which is why we were in so much debt to him (Interest free btw) So it is basically still FS debts.

Every team in the league has had a huge increase in wage% of revenue. I would guess the average wage of a PL player has risen dramatically as well hence the increase wage%.

  30. wigan have got Swansea at home and Villa(lst game of the season) the other games r tough, Arsenal / Man City / West Brom away

we have one winnable and that’s at QPR which is being very hopeful. 😯

Villa have Sunderland at home and Chelsea. away to Norwich and Wigan..

I think we are going down. I reckon we’ll get another point at QPR

      (Quote)

  31. There were signs of improvement today. From 1500, when the club didn’t exist.

We exist is basically the only positive.

      (Quote)

  32. What a fecking disaster. Lost , our goal differnece took a hammering , Debuchy sent off and now banned and a team that looks like they just do not belive anymore . THANKS PARDEW YOU C**T seriously this is looking worse than the last relegation season ,trouble is we have better players now than we did then but a manager that is feckless .

      (Quote)

  33. Santi ,There is that aye. I have resigned myself to us going down though ,in truth I think I realised it for sure after the Scum beat us so easily. 😥

      (Quote)

  34. I think most Newcastle supporters on seeing the starting line up knew we weren’t going for a win. Pardew cannot stand flair players. I know the game was well lost when Anita came on but he hardly made a bad pass, kept the ball on the ground and was alert. Should have started for me. Anyone who says Pardew should be given until October/November needs a reality check. On Mbiwa he may have been bad but he was head and shoulders better than Saylor. At least he can make constructive passes.

      (Quote)

  35. Is it still Obertan, Williamson and Simpson’s fault?

We’ve gone downhill since we stopped using them, lol

      (Quote)

  36. I’m still trying to understand how we got to this state. Last season we built on a solid defense and our flair players were scoring (mostly Ba and Cisse). We seemed well organized at the back but I was worried we wouldn’t get as many miracle goals this season. I also, like most thought we had to really go out and strengthen last summer to be ready for Europe. We sold one flair player (Ba) and didn’t replace him, we did nothing to strengthen in the summer. Llambias and Pardew bragged about our squad players being fantastic ie. Willo, Perch, and even still bragging about Obertan. According to Pardew we also had some tremendous youngsters like Sammy. Where are we now? It all appears to be a shambles. The January window gave us a very brief lift but now we seem even worse than we were in the first half of the season. Lots of blame to share around owner, managing director, and manager.

      (Quote)

  37. Back home after going through the longest ninety minutes ever.
Sitting having a beer when the team came through and you just knew we were going to be on the back foot and that is how is was. Defensively shocking. Attacking woeful. Sissoko stuck out on the right wing is a mind boggling decision. Knocking high balls to Cisse. No runners going past Cisse. It was just dismal. The manager must take all responsibility. Mike and Derek need to get Pardew in and explain what the hell happened. Then deliver him his P45. Don’t worry who’ll take charge he or she couldn’t do a worse job than that goon.

Cannot honestly see us getting another win. Two draws is the best we can hope for. Based on that we won’t keep a clean sheet and don’t have any fire power. Looking at the body language of some of the players they have relegation all over them and cannot get out of Newcastle quick enough. Very reminiscent of Duff, Bassong and Owen

      (Quote)

  38. Hard to believe Norwich above is with only 8 wins. I know I’m grasping at straws now. We have been terrible this season and nobody to blame except the players and the whole management setup as it stands. Will Pardew and Llambias have to answer for these last 2 home games to Ashley? If not then Ashley is wasting his time being an owner. If I was Ashley I would call a meeting with the two of them for tomorrow morning and demand some answers.

  39. @Big Dave

errr thing pardew was good enough to be given a chance..

I think he’s showing his worth now, dont you like?

      (Quote)

  40. It sounds as bad as I feel Toby @347. How can Pardew carry on after this? I would be too humiliated if I was him and offer my resignation immediately. How could we have fallen so far so quickly? I still can’t believe even a poor manager could pull this off.

      (Quote)

  41. @Geordietwo
I think the defensive resolve was built on an insane amount of preparation going into each game – i remember an interview withSaylor where he talked about the depth of the opposition analysis they did – so this has been hindered by Europa, along with a settled backline, and an unsustainable amount of individual goals as opposed to good team play.
They can explain a portion of the dropped points compared to last year. But to this extent I don;t know, it’s fucking pathetic.

      (Quote)

  42. Big Dave,Troy and others just said what most of us were thinking. That to panic and blame everything on Pardew would just produce a bigger disaster. I felt Pardew should be given a couple or three months next season as well until this fiasco but now I think Pardew will be gone in the summer. I just don’t see him having a leg to stand on now with Ashley. But the problems go deeper than just the manager I’m afraid. How we can continue with a know nothing managing director would be a complete mystery with any other owner.

      (Quote)

  43. @G2

“How could we have fallen so far so quickly? I still can’t believe even a poor manager could pull this off.”

Has it really been that quick we have been watching this **** football all season and even for large parts of last season (though we somehow got results then). For some reason we have been thinking we were just getting unlucky and it would all change soon.

Toby sums up exactly how i feel as well.

      (Quote)

  44. @Mark
On what you were saying to Dave.
You know it isn’t people championing Pardew, it’s people unsure on the board replacing with anyone better. (though I would probably take Shearer/Kinnear atm 👿 )

      (Quote)

  45. @ST ah..
well the old tosh about ‘we could only attract Kinnear’ doesnt wash with me, so we could all be accused of talking ****. If there is no better than Pardew than god help us..

Kinnear was a time when Ashley was making mistake after mistake. I think he’s learned a little since then (only a little mind)

      (Quote)

  46. Ha ha. What a disgrace. Pardew is inept and completely out of his depth.

It has been funny to see the ‘give him a chance’ Pardew apologists changing their tunes more than a broken jukebox.

      (Quote)

  47. Many people have asked this question but today the speed of the opposition and their ability to cover ground all over the pitch was night and day to us. Whoever is our fitness and conditioning coach needs to have a major rethink of his policy

      (Quote)

  48. @Mark
Yeah I can see both sides to it. I’m hoping this result will force him to see he needs to spend on a manager of quality, but still have doubts that would happen.

      (Quote)

  49. I guess what I mean by falling so far so quickly Santii @355 is that we looked set to really improve with the January incoming but the lift only lasted 4 or 5 games. I never imagined this kind of plummet downwards after picking up 5 decent players. I agree the first half of the year was dross as well and I feel just as bad as you and Toby mate. 😥 And like Icedog I’m still in shock over it. What kind of summer will this lead to for us? Surely we must see a new, experienced top class manager walk through the doors at SJP.

      (Quote)

  50. A major re-think or just out the door Toby @360? I couldn’t believe the difference in quality I was seeing all over the pitch.

      (Quote)

  51. Saylor is one gutted player there 🙁 looks totally deflated ,one question ,why was Cabaye not alongside him ! is he not acting captain.

      (Quote)

  52. I’m still trying to figure out how we started the game with two DM’s and still looked so open in midfield..? Shambles. Absolute shambles.

Also, I’m sick of hearing Steven Taylor talking big in interviews. His performances don’t back it up. He was AWOL for at least 4 of the goals today.

      (Quote)

  53. Well said Saylor. That should have been Pardew. I’m sure he’s devastated as well but he shouldn’t just leave it up to players. And I would agree Cabaye should have been there with Saylor. I have a new definition for the word gutted now for myself.

      (Quote)

  54. Also, as bad as we were, Liverpool played the best I have seen them all season today. I have watched quite a bit of them and I can comfortable say that was their best performance by a mile. The passed the ball quickly, created chances and finished them clinically. They haven’t been clinical all season, but of course today that all changed.

      (Quote)

  55. Mark dont be telling Porkies as you know full well I never said that as you do know what I did say and they are completely different things :oops I cant believe you would stoop so low 😯

      (Quote)

  56. Pardew “All my teams are organised and on the front foot, looking to win the game but that was not the case today”. Dreamer, joker and loser springs to mind. Has to go with immedite affect

      (Quote)

  57. Wont Pardew get a hefty payout if he’s sacked. I’m sure this was tied into his 8yr contract along with us getting a payout if Pardew was poached. I know he’s got egg on his face but being poached is unlikely 🙂 🙄

      (Quote)

  58. Steven Taylor looks like he is going to cry. At least he isn’t coming out with bullshit excuses like AP. Lets hope them cup finals he is talking about aren’t the same as our last 3 games that Pardew said were cup finals 1 goal scored and 10 conceded lol

      (Quote)

  59. @Mark i have heard alot recently that the 8 year deal is like a rolling contract so if he gets the boot we only pay for the year. I haven’t seen anything to back this up though so i don’t know how true it is.

      (Quote)

  60. Say what you will but that had to be hard for Saylor ,out of 11 players he is the one with the guts to step forward and I repeat where the **** was Cabaye 😕
