Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
Our penultimate home game of the season will see us do battle with Liverpool this afternoon, with a win having to be the ultimate aim for United.

In truth Liverpool are probably quite happy they are back to playing football after the last week, but there is no getting away from the fact that they will miss Luis Suarez.

It’s up to Newcastle to take advantage of that fact and make them pay. If they can do that and grab the three points then we’ll have just taken a huge, arguably total, step towards ensuring we have Premier League football next term. If we don’t then we look at other results and see how things are looking, but almost certainly the issue will drag on for at least another week.

Moving onto the game, and if you’d like to read a bit more background about the fixture then why not have a look at the match preview? You can view it by clicking here should you wish to update yourself on the injury situation, or take a look at the recent history between the two sides.

The game itself will be live on ESPN so there is hope for those who can’t get inside the ground to watch the game. Streams should be available as it’s being broadcast on loads of channels at home and abroad so all I ask is that if you find one then please share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news, as is always the case, will be added in at the bottom of the article as and when it becomes available. I’m at work again so once more somebody will be adding it in for me.

That’s just about it really. I’ve nothing more to say and must, like everyone, wait to see what fate awaits us this afternoon. I’ve tried not to mention it, but hopefully our efforts and endeavour are much better than what we witnessed in our last home game!

Howay the lads!

  1. Hold tight for me. 3 games left. There must be real chaos going on in that dressing room after that debacle. Too late to change a manager, plus my views are the same, regroup in the summer with Pardew. UNLESS, Ashley changes his policy which I have recommened and spend a fortune on a top manager.

I don’t believe this situation is difficult to deal with. Basics. 🙄

  2. Choo Choo,
Hop on my reality train and ignore Wor Troysa, we just got relegated tonight with the IDIOT in charge. A midfield of Perch, Jonas, Tiote and Cabaye with Sissoko played out of position spells doom.
Next week we will be set up to draw!
This guy is an idiot and is destroying us, TROY blames the regime!!!!
    I BLAME THE FOOL.

  3. Mark are you going to admit that I never said that ❓ and I would bet Jabba wouldn’t be so stupid to not have a get out clause if he wants to get shot of Pards, the 8yr was just to give the impression of long term stability and imo means fuk all really

  4. I see so much of a similarity between NUFC and SPORTS DIRECT.

Buy cheap, sell big, pay poor wages, have a shabby brand, advertisements all over the shop, BUT make huge profits.

    This bloke is a genius.

  5. I could care less about how much Taylor “cares”. His performances don’t match up, so in the end it’s irrelevant. He just makes so many dumb, gung-ho charges towards the ball. Always trying to be the hero.

I can’t remember who said it, but they were bang on. I think it was either McDonald or Moncur. They basically said Taylor loves to throw himself about be the fans’ “hero”, but good defenders aren’t on their arses as much as he is.

    100% agree

  6. TGS in a way it is the Regimes fault for scaring away any top quality managers that might have been willing to give us a go, and for trying to do it on the cheap, Pards isn’t and never was my choice by a long shot but as with most things in life you get what you pay for 😕

  7. Basically too many key players are out. Losing Ba killed us. No real threat up front. Krul ,Coloccini and Santon out of defense and now Debuchy red carded. We miss Marveaux too for some speed and crossing ability. Even the midfielders we do have seem to be off their game but maybe that is because they are trying to shore up the defense and the attack. Result, absolute **** play! Basically we need every single player to be fit at the same time as we just don’t have the necessary cover when a key player is out. Result….relegation!

  8. A lot of people picking up on this. It might be alien to him and he may detest speaking to the media but our owner Mike Ashley has to say something and not through Dekka. This is serious for the business that is Newcastle United.
On the other hand the may not give a ****. If he loses 50 million at NUFC when his overall wealth is rising by 500 million a year

  11. The biggest pardophile on this blog ridiculed and misrepresented me yesterday when he said, “the statistics that a premier league manager lasts 2.13 seasons is bloody ridiculous really. That average may be longer now that Pards has beaten that record by a few months now despite certain people predicting he would be sacked right on schedule. ”

    1) The statistics that a premier league manager lasts 2.13 seasons is fact. So why is it “bloody ridiculous”? It is fact.

    2) The fact that Pardew, one manager in hundreds, has lasted longer than 2.13 seasons will not have altered that statistic by a ****’s width never mind bragging that it “may be longer now”.

The only person that mentioned 2.13 seasons was me but I have never said Pardew would be sacked “right on schedule”. 2.13 seasons is an average. MoN went earlier. Other managers will go later. 2.13 seasons was a guide. Pardew was within a gnat’s chuff of going right on 2.13 seasons, but was bailed out big time with five major re-inforcements.

So that is just another of the same old convenient misrepresentations that I’ve complained about. Prove I said he would go right on 2.13 seasons, I say. It’s all written down and shouldn’t be difficult. Of course, if he can’t do it, it will show how desperate he is.

I’m talking about the chief petty officer of the love boat. Please remind us how that “David Moyes” argument for keeping Pardew goes again.

  12. @ TGS

My goodness grief. When did you decide to jump ship? 🙁

We discussed this the other week off the blog.

TGS please tell me who you want to replace Pardew based on Ashley paying Pardew the lowest wage for managers in the premier league.

I know you haven’t missed my point cos I’ve discussed it with you at length off the blog.

Tell me, tell us all who you want?

My point has been the same throughout, pay top dollar for a great manager or pay peanuts and you get cheap results.

I don’t want Pardew sacked to see another cheap manager come in.

Im resigned to stick with Ashley!! Who I believe is so unambitious cos I know he won’t try and sell the club unless he recoups all his losses. Its Ashley who sets the standards and its Ashley who appoints the managers.

I witnessed Ashley sacking Hughton who did wonders after stepping up to the plate, after Ashley appointed the dregs cos he couldn’t attract a top manager.

For me, those calling for Pards’ head need to start criticising Ashley and ensuring that the next manager that comes in is well paid and qualified.

TGS – I expect you to reply with a decent response other than criticising Pardews tactics.

    😉

  13. I am not Steven Taylor’s biggest fan either but considering he isn’t captain or even vice captain, the fact he had to go out after and do an apology video instead of Pardew, Colo or Cabaye is quite disturbing too.

Throw the local boy out, he’ll calm every one down. It’s a sign of how the management structure here seems to work. It’s all “our fans are intelligent” and as much Geordie Nation jingoism as we ever had under the previous owner.

I don’t blame Ashley either – he bought the players EVERYONE wanted, from fans to manager. It’s all Pardew and the coaching team.

The FOOL should be sacked and it is not Ashleys’s fault.

  17. I appreciate Steven Taylor having the guts to give an interview. Kudos to him. I think if we could get Coloccini back alongside STaylor the defense would look a lot better. STaylor always gives 100% even if it doesn’t always work. But once a defender has to cover everyone else’s position too, plus try to get in the oppositions penalty box for corners, no matter how hard he tries he can’t be everywhere. What he says is true, the best thing as supporters we can do for Newcastle now is to get behind the team for the last 3 games. I can remember a game that must have been a final, but can’t remember which competition, when Newcastle went to pieces in the game, Malcolm McDonald was crying on the pitch at the end of the game. The whole team was devastated at how badly they played. Then their was an open top bus taking them through Newcastle after the game and the supporters turned out in force and cheered them as though they had won. Even handing them a silver tin foil home made cup. The players cried on the bus, they didn’t expect that reception having lost so badly. Now that is supporting the team! That’s what we need to do next game.

I do not subscribe to the theory that the FOOL is the lowest paid manager in the EPL, by all accounts he earned a huge bonus last season.
This year he deserves what he gets “THE SACK”
You ask me who we should get, why speculate? Not worth bothering about, because the regime will appoint whoevever!
At this critical time the FOOL has lost the plot!
We are now hoping 5under1and beat Villa, wake up and sniff Les Kellets pants 😆 😆 😆

Have you just realised Pardew is not top notch
and is to blame for the performances to a degree?

Ashley needs to invest in a top manager or we will replace Pards with another mediocre manager and within 2 yrs end up the same way.

I still say give Pardew next season unless Ashley listens to the reality train and appoint a top notch manager who requires big wages.

I fail to see the problem.

That pathetic excuse for a manager needs to be sacked at the end of the season. Anyone who still supports him needs their head examined. Pissed off after spending nigh on £200 to go watch that dross today. I’m off to bed.

yes you maybe right about bonuses and Pardewight have earned a few more bob on his basic last season.

However he will be on rock bottom basic pay this season.

Do you really believe decent managers who have a choice of clubs will buy into that? Plus, they must balance the books.

Ashley brings mediocrity so get used to it. I have. Though I don’t agree with it and will challenge anyone who speaks out and says different. 😉

Can you explain why you didn’t want that pathetic excuse of a manager to be sacked when he was appointed. ?

Did you think he was a good manager?

Its basics to me and I welcome different opinions.
Pardew was never a top manager.

Ashley buys cheap players, balances the books and no player or manager is on wages that match the top 4 clubs.

Why are people surprised? I’m not.

I still say stick with Ashley stick with Pardew, unless Ashley changes his policy and that is my only hope.

That’s not my point. I’m not and never have said Pardew is a top manager. Its not Pards you need to be criticising but Ashley.

What’s the logic in sacking Pardew when Ashley’s track record shows his decision making in appointing managers is horrific.

Do you think those who aren’t crying out for Pardews head are happy with him?

For me, its like my young Chip shouting I don’t want this bike I want a £5k trek mountain bike. My friends have got one so why can’t I?

      (Quote)

  46. *** – The reality train want to stick with pardew because that’s what Everton did with David Moyes. But when Pardew does badly they remind us they also said he’s not the right man for the job. But when things are looking up, they say stick with pards, we told you so. But when things look bleak, they say they won’t call for his head in case ashley (who pays the best bonuses to his staff in the business) appoints someone like Joe Kinnear because he likes to get people on the cheap. Besides, we could never get a better manager than pardew in the whole world because Ashley treats players, managers and fans like dirt. 😛

  50. @Geordie Deb

I agree with most of your statement. Everyone probably does. Its when you said you wanted rid of him for some time that many, including me disagree with you.

Why? Cos we don’t believe Ashley can replace him with a top manager because of the previous debacle appointing a manager.

Understand this. Pardew was appointed after Hughton requested a better contract following promotion.

Hughton got the job as a last resort cos we had been thru a few managers who were desperately seeking work.

We all want a top manager. Is it not Ashley that you need to be criticising and not Pardew?

    I think so

      (Quote)

  51. Dave @ 430 You’re pissing about, fella. Just say you want Pardew sacked and a better manager in place.

Whether Ashley will sack him at all or give you the manager you want is a completely different matter. It has nothing to do with what you want. Everybody else is able to do it. Why can’t you?

If ashley listens to you about sacking him, why shouldn’t he listen to you about who you want to replace him with?

Admit you and the reality train have argued for pardew to be given more time, like David Moyes was given, and far longer than the 2.13 seasons that you keep mocking me for mentioning.

  53. Pootle @ 432 Spot on! I thought I was the only one who could see how pathetic it is. It is completely irrelevant. They’re trying to second guess ashley. Or so they would have you believe. It’s just an excuse for calling it wrong in the first place and arguing for the eight year contract and the benefits of mangerial stability.

      (Quote)

  54. Dave I honestly don’t know. When Ashley got a fright after the Reading game he put his hand in his pocket and paid out more wedge for new recruits than any other team in the league by a long way. We didn’t expect him to do that (or not to that degree) so he can be pretty unpredictable. He may surprise us and that’s all I’m pinning my hopes on.
According to the news this week, he is paying unbelievable bonuses in his main business. Success there clearly means people get rewarded very well for it. I think he is smart enough to structure deals so we can get a good manager if he wants one.

  60. Troy you’re welcome to disagree with me 😉 I’ve been completely unimpressed with Pardew this season. He has seemed a busted flush for months, devoid of ideas, playing people out of position, poor tactics, out thought etc etc. Team playing **** for most of the time. Now worst defence in the league despite spending four days a week focusing on that area. I have wanted rid for ages as he seemed out of his depth and I hate his hegative mindset and tactics.
I think Ashley has learnt a lot since previous experiences trying to appoint managers. Don’t forget no one would come to SJP due to the poisionous situation after the Keegan debacle so we didn’t have a lot of options available. I’m hoping he realises that all the good work by Carr and getting these quality players is undone when you have a weak link as the manager and it will make him look for the experienced quality option.
