Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
Our penultimate home game of the season will see us do battle with Liverpool this afternoon, with a win having to be the ultimate aim for United.

In truth Liverpool are probably quite happy they are back to playing football after the last week, but there is no getting away from the fact that they will miss Luis Suarez.

It’s up to Newcastle to take advantage of that fact and make them pay. If they can do that and grab the three points then we’ll have just taken a huge, arguably total, step towards ensuring we have Premier League football next term. If we don’t then we look at other results and see how things are looking, but almost certainly the issue will drag on for at least another week.

Moving onto the game, and if you’d like to read a bit more background about the fixture then why not have a look at the match preview? You can view it by clicking here should you wish to update yourself on the injury situation, or take a look at the recent history between the two sides.

The game itself will be live on ESPN so there is hope for those who can’t get inside the ground to watch the game. Streams should be available as it’s being broadcast on loads of channels at home and abroad so all I ask is that if you find one then please share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news, as is always the case, will be added in at the bottom of the article as and when it becomes available. I’m at work again so once more somebody will be adding it in for me.

That’s just about it really. I’ve nothing more to say and must, like everyone, wait to see what fate awaits us this afternoon. I’ve tried not to mention it, but hopefully our efforts and endeavour are much better than what we witnessed in our last home game!

Howay the lads!

  1. Deb @ 433 I have been looking up about the fact that he pays unbelievable bonus’s out to staff in his main business ( SD ), but it seems to be that he wasn’t the main reason for them bonuses but the other shareholders had a big say in it too not just him. I think you will also find that he gets massive bonuses from it to so its not just the 2000 odd lucky members of staff .

But I do hope he surprises us and gets a top manager in as we deserve one

  3. If Pardew had gone after 2.13 seasons, we wouldn’t have had the two worst consecutive results at home in my lifetime or even in our whole history. The Johnstone Paints Trophy winner is breaking all records. 😳

  4. We are at home to Arsenal next whats our worst defeat to them add 1 goal to arsenals and that will be the last games result 😀 Get to the bookies lads ❗ ❗ 😉

  5. @ Geordie Deb

There is nothing I disagree with you about regarding Pards and his performances however nothing suggests to me that Ashley isn’t happy with paying the manager the least wage in the premier league and content to finish 4th bottom but still raking in Millions.

Unless you have insight behind the scenes then please enlighten me it is it just romantic thoughts about Ashley seeing the light. 🙄

  6. Of all the lame excuses, this one takes the **** and writes a completely new chapter. Alan Pardew says there may not have been enough Premier League experience in the side today. 😛

      (Quote)

  7. Sacked. He should have been sacked ages ago. He has been clueless for the majority of the season. He got lucky because we got a bounce with all the signings in January. Once his tactical and coaching abilities really got to grips with the new guys he managed to make everyone look worse than they naturally would.
What’s the point of stability if its stable ****?

      (Quote)

  8. Troy @ 447 I say stick unless he was prepared to pay for a proper top manager, plus there is always the chance that changing manager now could end all hopes we have, yeah I know we could get a manager with the Di canio effect.
TGS as above if we could get a top manager I won’t say no, but I respect everyones opinion that says Pards out I just hope that I had the same faith in getting a good manager in

      (Quote)

  9. Pardew had a little pop at vice capt. Cabaye in the post-match interview. Saying he needs Colo back to give Newcastle “a bit of leadership”.

      (Quote)

  10. Geordie Deb – Save your breath. Answer this instead. Who is so out of touch with reality he said this yesterday?

“There would be nothing better than Pards going through a rough patch and to come through the other side a better manager. That’s what can happen if you stay loyal to managers. They gain confidence.”

Great. Let’s have more and bigger defeats. Bring it on. It’s all to the good. 😛 😳

  11. I managed 3 hours of sleep and woke up to find that the nightmare was real. I still can’t believe a bunch of professional footballers, international wannabes no less, can give so much space to the opposition and look so lacking in communication.

Inept doesn’t even come close to describing it. Whatever happened to discipline? What happened to basic skills? What happened to using your football brain? Even if Pardew is hopeless at everything, the players have to take a lot of responsibility for that performance. It isn’t just the manager’s fault.

I’m loving the backbone of those with conviction in their opinions.

  13. Geordie Deb. If you haven’t guessed, it’s the same man who said this in November:

“With Ashley’s transfer policy we will never achieve anything.”

  16. Of course I don’t expect everyone to nail their colours to the mast. That’s life. Some people have jelly spines and like to argue from both sides of the fence.

We know who those are so those with a back bone please choose. 😛

  17. The kid @ 462 No surely not Pards taking a pop at Cabaye!? Someone posted on this blog only the other day:

“What I like to see are the players backing Pardew and there’s plenty of that in the local sports news. The players seem happy and I’ve not heard of any player talking about transfers. Despite what some say, Pardew seems to keep the players happy.” 😛

      (Quote)

  18. Troy, regarding the sacking of Pardew I have to say no…but that is purely down to the timing issue. I don’t think it is fair to put someone else under extreme pressure to try and rescue us from this decline.
Pardew should be given until the end of the season to try and turn this absolute pile of ***** round. Three points is not too much to expect surely, and that would actually most probably keep us up. Pardew should have it once and for all on HIS CV that he took NUFC down. Then most probably the guy will disapear from the face of the universe. His sphincter has caved in seriously after this game. A combination of **** poor tactics, and run of the mill players who have been talked up by the media and the manager, while the fans have been watching the same games and thinking “what the flock”…have I been hallucinating

      (Quote)

  19. I’d be happy to have somebody better than Pardew. It’s always good to have something better than what you’ve got.

I’d like to have a few players better than the ones we’ve got as well.

      (Quote)

  20. My tip is that Cisse will be outahere like a fooking rat up a drain pipe, and lets be honest, he must be mental to hang about with this manager paggering him with his ***** tactics.

      (Quote)

  21. To be honest Ashleys transfer policy has been *****.
Some of the January buys should have been completed in the summer as anyone with any sense could see we were weak.
That does not excuse Pardews managerial performance this season. We have been consistently poor with players played needlessly out of position, players in poor form played ahead of those playing well, morale and fitness have looked shocking, needlessly negative tactics home and away and bafflingly unimaginative substitutions that offer no improvement. These have all been common occurences and frequent problems and the buck stops with Pardew.

  23. No, I wouldn’t sack him, Troy. Not with 3 games to go. I can’t see the point in that. But I’d seriously advise Ashley to look elsewhere in the close season.

  24. Some people hate making decisions in case others take the **** out of them if they are wrong. 😛

Come on crew – its a bit of fun. Yes or No and no providing this or that. ;-). Nail your colours to the mast.

      (Quote)

  25. Pootle….have you noticed Pardew has a tendency to attach so much attention to his media persona, instead of just taking it on the chin and seing the game for what it is. The gusy is not up to the task, but has been let down SERIOUSLY by his players. I’m pretty sure that Cabaye is absolutely devastated by the whole event today. Let’s be honest, it is a serious managerial error by Pardew who sees Cabaye every day, sees what the guy is going through, yet still heaps so much responsibiltiy and plaudits on the shoulders of an average midfield player.
Tiote was brawling and kicking lumps out of players today, because that is what Tiote does best and in fact is one of the only skills Tiote has. However, he was at LEAST showing fight and getting stuck in for the cause. Our other midfielders where just going through the motions…

No offense (I know this is really all to do with willy waving between toys B+B) but isn’t the ‘no providing this or that’ realy what you and Dave are doing by saying “Yes we’d sack him if we believed Ashley would pay the reqired amount for a top manager”?????

      (Quote)

  28. Troy, stop this gloating **** mate, there really are more serious things to consider than you proving everybody wrong.

  29. I love the fact that some people make decisions and don’t skulk and hide.
They don’t mind making a decision and someday face ridicule cos they made the wrong decision.

For me, that’s the difference between leaders and followers. Even those that make the wrong decision, are more likely to make the right decision in the future. Decision makers. All leaders are. 😉

Make your choice people. It will be interesting to see the line up at the end.

      (Quote)

  30. Bris.

I do see the point about the timing issue with three games to go etc.
But if he’s already a dead man walking then I’m not sure we could be any worse off if he does go now.
What’s the worst that could happen? We look abject and let in 7??

      (Quote)

  31. @Pootle

Is it not a good bit of banter to see who wants Pards sacked or not?

    Its topical.

Some people are full of opinions but are mon committal in case they are proven wrong.

Its great to have it written down so no one can back track when things turn out differently to what they expect.

      (Quote)

  32. Pootle – I suppose it’s because he still has the backing of the players (if reports are to be believed) so there’s always the chance we might pull off a win somewhere. Also, it means looking for a replacement, and that probably won’t mean getting the desired better replacement; it’ll be a quick fix, which might mean replacing that guy before too long and so on and so forth.

The team under Pardew surely can’t get any worse over the next 3 games.

      (Quote)

  33. No, and I cba to go over the reasoning with it again. He has been shocking this season, but the players need to take a good fucking look at themselves as well. This is Newcastle United not some fucking pub team although the performance and score only resemble the later.

      (Quote)

  34. I know Carr judges players and not managers, but he is watching the match as a whole and clearly does it in great detail. Surely someone has impressed him in frog land.

      (Quote)

  35. Yes Troy, but saying “mon committal in case they are proven wrong.” Is equally applicable to those who say ‘ I want him sacked but I don’t think Asley will pay someone better so maybe we should give him (another) chance’
Its just as big a cop out.

      (Quote)

  36. @pootle

You have to make the decision based on what you think Ashley will do.

You won’t be shot at dawn if you are wrong. Ashley may sack Pardew and appoint Morinho.

Its a bit of fun and you have to base it on what you believe Ashley will do. , ie if he sacks Pards will his replacement be better than Pards

    Howay man, lighten up

      (Quote)

  37. I wonder if Carr watches any of our matches. I wonder how many players he would recommend we keep.

  38. Troy@485, what have I to gain from the fact that the people you mentioned vote for or against sacking Pardew ? What are you after finding out ?

I just have the feeling that you really want to use this issue to say “I told you so” at a later date. I may of course be completely wrong, but that kind of “questionaire” going out on a day when we have just been battered to oblivion, and are knee deep in ****, could come across as a tad intimidatory.

What was your decision on the issue of sacking Pardew or not by the way ?

      (Quote)

  39. Bris “The team under Pardew surely can’t get any worse over the next 3 games.”
That sentence sums up just how bad it has got under Pardew. Worst thing is its not the first time I’ve felt that way.

Troy I made it quite clear. I want him to go.
Stable **** is still just ****.

  45. Our midfield is the weak link in the side. They lack discipline completely, and play like headless chickens, absolutely all power with no guile whatsoever.

      (Quote)

  46. Munich@499-I am shocked that you would ever harbour such thoughts of Troy lording it over someone for being wrong.. 😛

      (Quote)

  47. Troy it isn’t interesting. MM is right, its painfully transparent that you are hoping against hope that Pardew pulls a miracle out the bag so you can Willy wave about how wise you were, at the end of the end of the season.

      (Quote)

  48. Munich-Agree our midfield are shocking, but honestly the whole side was drivel. Literally all the starters and all the subs. I’m not sure I have ever seen that happen in one of our sides before.

      (Quote)

  49. I’m running this not as a scientific experiment but a bit of fun to see who is prepared to say whether in these circs that they would sack Pards now based on your thoughts how Ashley will react to replace him.

Some people are frightened of ridicule if they are proven wrong. Some aren’t. I always believe leaders will make wrong decisions. But the more decisions they make they have more chance of making the right ones.

Those that sit on the fence cos they are frightened to be ridiculed are followers. There’s nothing wrong with followers. They are an essential part of life. Its the followers who criticise the leaders that are the weak ones. 😉

      (Quote)

  50. Newkie@510, I can honestly say mate, as a bloke just turned 50, I cannot remember the last time that a toon team put in such an absolutely pish performance as today. Oh hang on, the week before against Sunderland 👿 . I’m not just disappointed and angry, I’m fucking livid mate.

I don’t need Troy “having a bit of fun” on a day like today. There again, I can just fly by his comments I suppose 😉

      (Quote)

  51. Right, can Ash just pay Redknapp 500k just to lose the match? I am being deadly serious, they are both shady blokes who will have done this thing before, saves Ash some money and it’s not like redknapp has anything to gain although he does like dicking us over.

Should I put this in an email to the club or..

      (Quote)

  52. Pootle

    Not at all fella.

I don’t believe that for a second. I admire those that make decisions and are bold. Some amongst us are weak and sit either side of the fence.

You either accept my view or you don’t.

Of its not interesting to you then so be it.

I’ve never been someone who pleases everyone. I say things as I see it. Black n white.

Toonsy puts up polls which are anonymous. Pardew sacked yes/ No

Its the same but its putting your name there.

I have more chance of losing as I think Pards is not a great manager. I just don’t think Ashley can attract a better manager.

That’s what I base my decision on. You may believe he can.

      (Quote)

  53. @MM.

I was at the game today into cape and trunks so can you imagine how I feel. I pissed my trunks when the 6 th went in and I had to sit on the bus stinking. You think you have problems . 🙄

      (Quote)

  54. Munich-Congratulations/commiserations on the birthday mate.

At least vs Sunderland Ben Arfa looked good and actually Debuchy was alright as well. But today? Benny caught running towards our goal, ok he may have been fouled, but he got beaten by fucking Coutinho! FFS man have you seen the size of him? Time to take off the gloves and toughen up. Debuchy was just a joke, pathetic foul and his petulence seems to be exactly the same as Cabayes, I suppose that’s why they get on so well.

As for Troy well you need to humour him or he won’t go away. Assuming we stay up I am sure this thread will be mentioned and Troy will be on the wind up all summer, as he does every summer. I can put up with any sort of torturous/petty arguing on here-if we stay up.

      (Quote)

  55. Troy, ok mate, point taken. I hope you weren’t on the 33 going up Elswick Road.

I hope you’re lad took it all ok though 🙂

      (Quote)

  56. Got to say. Its only the second time I’ve seen so many people walk out so early before the end of the game.

Getting beat to arsenal by 4-0 at half time was bad but today may have surpassed that, though slightly later.

The ground was streaming out with 25 mins to go, much to the joy of the scousers who were ridiculing us! Fair do’s to them. We would do the same.

      (Quote)

  57. @ Newkie

You’ve got to love a bit of humour man. I bet you’ve got a boxer dog. You know what they say about dogs and their owners. You ugly miserable boxer dog you 😛

      (Quote)

  58. Newkie, aye you are right mate, Troy is just teasing a bit, it’s just that I’m well peeved after that performance.

I think that we now have a lop sided team where the onus and timbre of the team is being dictated by a core of players who are 1 – foreign and perhaps not yet ripe enough for the responsibility, and 2 – being managed by a manager who is rapidly running out of ideas, 3 – being run by an owner who isn’t a football man, who is at the same time being advised by another non-footballing man, with 4 – poor coaches as Pardew’s right hand men…

      (Quote)

  59. Troy and Newkie, it’s obviously late where you are and obviously this ***** result has riled you both enough to stay awake late into the night.

Thank flock I have a bottle of JD at my side, because the pish we turned out today would be really hard to take without it.. 🙁

Flock me, why did that diddy header at the beginning of the second half fall to Perch ? 🙁

      (Quote)

  60. Man oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man was Staylor disappointing today. He was absolutely dreadful.

      (Quote)

  61. I’m not teasing. I’m being up front. Anyway, I’m sleeping in the bloody laundry basket again tonight. Wor lass has spread eagled diagonally owa the bed.

I love the laundry basket like. I put Les’s trunks owa me napper and breath in! The stench knocks is oot til the morning! 😯

The next thing I normally remember is wor lass opening the lid and passing is a cup of tea in the morning. 😯

Love the Toon like, me man! 😯 🙂

Love them! With aal me heart and trunks! 😯

    That reminds me of that famous song;

    Heart & Trunks.

Heart and trunks 😯 , I fell in love with you,
Heart and trunks 😯 , the way a fool would do,
    Madly…
    Because you held me tight,
And stole a kiss in the night…

Heart and trunks 😯 , I begged to be adored,
    Lost control, and tumbled overboard,
    Gladly…
    That magic night we kissed,
    There in the moon mist.

Oh! but your lips were thrilling, much too thrilling,
Never before were mine so strangely willing.

But now I see, what one embrace can do,
Look at me, it’s got me loving you,
    Madly…
    That little kiss you stole,
Held all my heart and trunks

    😯 😯 🙂

      (Quote)

  62. Troy 😀 On a serious note I am confused as to how we have started agreeing so much, looks like tough times really bring the best out of the toon army…well, apart from punching horses and the like.

Munich-Agreed. I think there is a rot in the club, inspired by collective arrogance. Ashley and Lambo thought they had the PL cracked (and gave us the arrogant drivel “we told you so” ***** through the summer. Pardew basked in the glory he has never been close to before and now appears to have cracked as a manager. The players believed their own hype and assumed bids would come in during the summer and they could **** off, or that they could turn up to a match and get a result without putting in any effort.
