Back in our hands?

Wigan miss chance to overtake United
Wigan miss chance to overtake United
Personally I hate relying on other results when it comes to our own fortune, but to be honest I’ll take pretty much anything that comes our way right now.

So whilst I’m loathe to revel in the misfortunes of others, I am still delighted that Swansea managed to do us a favour last night by beating Wigan 3-2 at the DW Stadium.

That game was Wigan’s game in hand and if they’d have won it they would have overtaken us and ensured we faced QPR at the weekend as the last occupants of the relegation zone. However as things stand now we are still three points ahead of the Latics with just two games left to play for all teams involved in the relegation dogfight.

So how do things stand now following on from the result last night? Well the first thing to observe is that our destiny is now back in our own hands. From experience that chance often doesn’t come around twice so it’s now up to us to take the chance we’ve been afforded with both hands.

To ensure we make the most of this chance we must pick up a win at QPR on Sunday. If we manage to grab just a second away win of the campaign it would mean that Wigan would then definitely have to win their two remaining fixtures which, if they did manage, would mean we need to pick up a point against Arsenal to be safe. Even a draw for us at QPR would be enough providing Arsenal beat Wigan at the Emirates on Tuesday night.

To be fair there are still lots of permutations and many twists and turns that could happen and any team up to Fulham in 12th could still be dragged into things, however unlikely it may seem right now. What we do have is a second chance to keep the ball in our court so to speak, but to make sure it remains that way we must win this weekend at QPR.

And if the players and manager can’t get that then well….

  1. Strumpo @ 374 – You’ve lost me on that one. Stardy, do you know what Strumpo’s on about?

Irrational hate of second guessing – no. There are times when you need to second guess.

Simpson? I’ve never once said a bad word against Simpson so it’s not easy for me to follow your scenario. I’d be happy for Simpson to leave if we had someone better lined up, but I’m not cvalling for it. Usually we do have better players lined up. I would like to see the back of Shola because he’s ***** and I’m confident that we could get someone better. But I’m not going to second guess Ashley that he won’t get someone better and so sing Shola’s praises and defend him at every opportunity on the basis that Ahley might not get someone better.

You stick to chess. I’ll stick to football.

  2. It is an intriguing possibility that Stardust, Troy and B&B are the same person, after all they do seem to know a lot about each other and frequently use each other to bounce off.

Could even be that I’m not me. Who knows?

  3. @B&B
Haha, well there we go! You would get rid of Simpson IF we had someone better lined up. You would get rid of Shola IF we could get someone better.
Are we in a tunnel? I’m pretty sure I can hear you echoing the thoughts of many of us on the Pardew situation.
    Check mate.
Signing out of this now, will come back to check on B&B’s undoubted last resort of turning to weird jibes later.

  4. Stardy – What I said months back is that I predicted he would be sacked soon enough, and so I didn’t need to call him to be sacked. If I’m confident in my prediction, it will happen because the pressure will be too great and so I wouldn’t need to call for him to be sacked. That prediction hasn’t yet materialised, but all the ingredients are there as I said they would be and he’s within a gnat’s chuff of it for the reasons I said.

So two things: 1) My prediction of what would happen and 2) my refusal to call for him to be sacked because I wanted to give him a fair chance. Nothing hypocritical or inconsisten in that. If I had called for him to be sacked when some others were and he got the sack, I’d have been rightly criticised by the same old faces for not giving him enough time.

That is the point where most the blog is at with Pardew. Welcome to normality.
The only difference is people like JJ believe we will get someone better, people like me don’t. Both groups second guessing Ashley, both groups accept the validity of of the others position.

  9. Strumpo – You’re in a tunnel, yes. On that reality train you claim not to be on. 😛

There’s a gaping flaw in your argument. The difference is that Simpson’s performances have been very decent and not worthy of some of the ridiculous over the top criticism that he gets. Pardew’s and Shola’s performances have been woeful and I’ve seen enough of them to say to Ashley “get rid” and get someone better in. It’s as straightforward as that and doesn’t involve any mind reading or second guessing.

I take it you’re good at mind reading and second guessing because everyone knows that to play chess you need to second guess your opponent. Simple me. I just thought you had to look at the rational move because that is what computers do.

      (Quote)

  10. Strumpo @ 381 I’ve never argued that. You know fine well that’s missing the point. I’m saying you’ve supported Pardew for months and never said he should go. Only the other day, you admitted you had been a butterfly and had changed your position from the day before.

  11. Strumps – Like that one: “Welcome to normality”. From the butterfly who has just landed on it. 😛

B&B simply hasn’t got a clue what anyone believes. He’s clearly not understood any of my posts and what I’ve said. You will find the more you debate with him you will tear your hair out cos he gets lost off and you will have to repeat yourself over and over again.

I’ve learnt the hard way, Dave has and many more and you will find the same.

He won’t get you, he doesn’t get anyone and remarkably no one gets him.

Its all very confusing. 😳 😛

  13. So called Feud warning. Skip over.

@ 384 Did Ed allow you to use your disclaimer? 😆

I see after your big sulk and sojourn, you eventually gave up your silly cold draught comments which were boring after the second one, never mind the hundredth. I just ignored you and got on with it.

Let’s be clear. I sent a 20 – 30 page letter to you on Xmas day. You replied with a page entitled “The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth”. I then sent a comprehensive reply (25 pages) on 15 January as an open letter to all the independent adjudicators you brought in. That is on the table. There is no answer.

  14. To be fair – how can any of us second guess wtf Jabba is gonna do?!! 😕

At least people make it clear they want pards sacked and reason behind it. theres no point second guessing who Jabba will replace them with

i dont want pards sacked and I have no logical reasoning behind that 😳 but i wont shoot those down that do

Do you realise how embarrassing this is becoming? You are a grown man who is not speaking to his brother over a blog issue.

You’ve wrote a 25 page letter to the family explaining why you aren’t speaking to me. Its nothing other than lies, misrepresentation and drivel (which I’ve pulled apart in detail tho for my mothers sake I’m refraining from handing it over).

You need to get a back bone and stop destroying this blog. Nobody understands you. You don’t understand others.

Again, I will leave it at that. I won’t converse with you and you should not converse with me. I’m deliberately not replying so it doesn’t cause chaos on here.

That is the only reason I don’t respond to your ridiculous posts.

Crack on. Keep out my way.

  16. Erm..I really hate to stick my head above the parapet but have to say I saw the Cisse goal from 3 different angles, on 2 of them I couldn’t tell if it crossed the line but clearly saw it did on the 3rd angle. If you still believe it didn’t cross the line then fine I’m not going to argue with you. But I am going to go with my own eyes!

you say… “I never hound you for answers. Let others judge. “…

If by “others” you mean me and “others”….I find your “style” pretty irritating and intimidating to be honest.

If your “style” ultimately caused certain posters away from the blog, and ultimately affect the popularity of the blog, then I would find that to be a real pity.

I come on here to exchange views with a bunch of guys who invariably have similar views, and intresting contra views to my opinion.

You are starting to sound like a stuck record mate, which is a real pity.

  21. Jill – The one I saw was on MOTD where it showed a computerised generation where the viewpoint starts from infield and rises above the goal to look down on the goal. On that it wasn’t over, as I recall. If two angles show it to be inconclusive, particularly the one from the lino’s view, I really can’t be calling the lino a cheat. I certainly didn;t think he took a deliberate tumble either.

  25. This coming summer break is going to be quite amazing in my opinion. It looks now as if there is going to be an absolutely unheralded managerial carousel, with almost every top manager being named….. Ferguson, Mourinho, Mancini, Benitez etc.. The managerial changes will also provoke a whole bunch of transfer moves, with players moving, but the players can only move once the managerial changes have been agreed.

Bearing this in mind, which of our players are REALLY worth splashing the cash on, and where may they end up ? Would we miss them ?

I can see perhaps three players being in the firing line… Cabaye, HBA and Tiote. I don’t consider Krul and Santone as quite in the firing line just yet…
At the end of the day, would the fans accept 15mill, 10 mill and 10 mill for each of those players ?

The one player not being speculated on, but whom in my opinion is in the sights of several clubs, is Cisse. It will be disatrous if he decides to move on, because a combination of Pardew in charge, Pardew’s “style” of play, and the lack of goalscorers available on the market, and in the toon line up, will mean that we will have another really difficult season next season.

Pardew talks about strengthening the squad in the summer. Does he think we are the only ones with money to spend ? EVERY EPL and european club will have huge resources available to buy players this summer, and I fear we will lose more quality than we will gain. Throw in the fact that we the fans at least seem to prefer to offload several “journeymen” players such as Gosling, Amalfitano, Williamson, Simpson…what does that mean for the squad ? By those estimations we will need to bring in 10 new players in the summer 😯 How are those players expected to gel ?

Pardew, presuming he survives, has a REAL difficult job on his hands this coming summer break, keeping the remaining players motivated, whilst looking to bring in new players. If the owner doesn’t want another horror season like this one, he has no option but to back Pardew with hard cash, and at the right time too.

As I’m writing this, the thought comes to my mind – I hope he is up to this extremely difficult task..

  27. Munich – Many things irritate me. The big one is BS. Like we have a “**** SQUAD” or “Pardew looks like he’s protecting Campbell”. Dave, Troy and Strumps come out with such corkers at times, I just can’t help myself. My style is to hit back with a straight no nonsense reply. I can’t change it. Don’t want to.

That said, I don’t want to spoil your cosy little place, and I can’t have bloggers getting intimidated or Troy not being being able to live with the ridicule. I’ll back out, but be warned, I will come back one day, and because I hate BS so much, I could just be tempted to jump in. I might not be able to stop myself. 😛

Batty@396 , I can’t for the life of me see why Colo has said that ,it just makes the club look like mugs for banny Luke Edwards 🙄 😳 .Also interesting Ginola saying what he did too ,maybe we need him to come into the dressing room and put a few right 😉 .

“I would suggest if B&B hasn’t got the gumption to speak to me away from the blog over a blog issue then keep well away from my comments on here. I don’t understand you, nobody does so therefore keep away.”

That’s intimidation. You’ll not find me deliberately trying to intimidate anyone.

And for the record, it has nothing to do with “speaking to him”. I take issue with Dave and Strumps and others when I disagree with them so it’s nothing personal. I hope you know that boys. 😉

I like the way Troy speaks for everyone when he says nobody understand me. I only find out today that he has answered my letter, which he describes as “lies, misrepresentation and drivel”, but hasn’t shown it to his own independent adjudicator. He wouldn’t dare give it the light of day because he knows it would be demolished. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Don’t come runnning to me when he thinks the coast is clear and starts his antics. 😛

I pointed it out before you started on this blog and the constant criticism you’ve received should have nailed it home to you but it still hasn’t.

This is not about me, its about you and your difficulty in debating. Deal with it.

I won’t engage, 1/ cos you’ve shown your true colours by not speaking to me, which I find incredibly childish &
    2/. You can’t debate properly.

Many people disagree with my opinions and that is what this blog is about. But I don’t confuse people. They know where I stand. It is you that struggles but I’ve watched you for the 3 months I was away and you irritated everyone you engaged with because of your confusing posts and ridiculous dissection of others posts.

I’m probably one of the few already paid up for next season so it matters to me. Even though it’s looking better after the Wigan result, I’m still feeling like private Frazier. Au revoir.

Everton can confirm that David Moyes will leave the Club at the end of the season.

The Manager met Chairman Bill Kenwright early yesterday evening (Wednesday 8th May) and confirmed his desire to join Manchester United.

The Chairman, on behalf of the Club, would like to place on record his thanks to David for the massive contribution he has made to Everton since his arrival in March 2002. He has been an outstanding Manager.

During his tenure at Goodison Park, David has taken charge of the team on over 500 occasions including four European campaigns.

His final two games as Everton Manager will be the remaining Premier League matches against West Ham United and Chelsea.

Everton officials will start the search for a replacement manager immediately.
