Game On! QPR v Newcastle

Game On at Loftus Road
Game On at Loftus Road
The message as we head into our penultimate game of the season is really quite simple – win at Loftus Road and we eliminate ourselves from the possibility of being relegated.

We can the head into the final game of the season – at home to Arsenal – without any real pressure knowing that we have Premier League football to look forward to next season.

A win at QPR, with their squad of expensive signings who will no doubt be looking for a way out of the club in the next few weeks, should be simple. Already resigned to relegation, and with the poorest home record in the league, they have nothing to play for other than pride whilst we have everything still on the line. However our away record this season suggests that we won’t win this game although I am of course waiting to be pleasantly surprised.

For some more background on the match, along with injury news, a look at the history of the fixture between the two clubs, some facts and stats for both sides and some random thinking at the end, why not head over and read my match preview which is online here.

The game itself is not being shown live on the TV here in the UK. However there are a number of overseas TV channels who have chosen to broadcast the match so catching a stream shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Hopefully. If you happen to find a good stream then please feel free to share it with your fellow Newcastle fans by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be provided by myself today before I head off to work and miss the match, which is probably a good omen for us to be fair. I will endeavour to add the teamsheet in full at the bottom of this article.

Now is the time to deliver.

Howay the lads!

  1. Thanks lads the maths got the better of me for a minute there like.

Can I just say how fecking good was Colo and Willo today ,early yellow for Willo had me concerned but he was excellent. My we’re gonna miss Colo if he goes.

Is Saylor really sick or are we keeping him fit for a move to Marseille 😉

  2. Our defence played well but by **** do they sit deep… most of our issues come from that.. way too much space between our forwards and back four..

      (Quote)

  3. Rodz it’s **** that he will be going. We should do whatever it takes to keep him, regular business class trips home, family all move here, whatever, he makes such a massive difference

  4. Toon trw ,The guy was in obvious pain and though I was initially angry ,he saved our bacon at West Ham which shouldn’t be forgotten.

  5. AoD, I saw Mureenyer in Greggs on Northumberland Street last Monday.
He bought two steak bakes, a tuna baguette, vanilla slice and two packets of cheese and onion crisps.

Of course I questioned him on his lack of drink.
I gestured towards the chilled cabinet where there was a spurious arrangement of Fantas and Diet Cokes.
He said he didn’t like pop, and would rather just gorge on carbs.

You may well question the relevance of my meeting.

    There is none, however.
    😆

  6. Toonsy @372 – Can’t we just have this afternoon of relief and unity in survival? Let’s pick the team to pieces based on the meaningless Arsenal match… 🙄

  7. Elliot is a great shot stopper but is a real numpty, anyone else would’ve booted it over the stadium, only he would attempt to grab it outside the box and then 360 round pretending he was in the whole time 🙄 .

Personally, I wouldn’t have put ‘now’ in upper case.
    Just a minor typographical criticism.

  13. glad we are staying up, delighted. at least theres one team in the premiership worse than us. pardrew needs replacing as manager now we are safe!

  14. I haven’t got a nerve left unfrayed! I may be starting with a stomach ulcer! Don’t want to take my blood pressure right now! Ah well maybe a wee nap will help if I can get my heart to stop pounding and get my heart out of my throat! 😀

  15. AOD-Why is that sad? Even if he lets in 10 he deserves a bow out, he’s been one of the best pros around. Fair play to him, he’s a legend.

And the commentators say in a shout of hartlepool manager, would be awesome!

      (Quote)

  16. getting back to the game. One thing was confirmed for certain Lee Probert is the worst referee in the premier league. Even worse than Mark Halsey

      (Quote)

  17. ben arfa can be free now and be fck hell explosif against ARSENALWENGER CLUB 😈 ❗
when hatem is free he is not the best defender ok…but he can do hell fire hot skills and monstruous power on ball…!
AFTER ALL WE EARN A BIG VICTORY AT HOME FOR return FANS SUPPORT …..AND FINISH WITH BIG ShOW ❗

      (Quote)

  18. I don’t think Elliot even handled outside the box.

Coloccini has been absolutely amazing in his last two games. No coincidence that our defense looks far better now with him in it. QPR didn’t really look like scoring today apart from one long shot and the Pen of course. Also did anyone see how angry he got in the first half when Jonas and Cabaye fooked about and lost the ball to allow them to attack. Captain Fantastic.

      (Quote)

  19. We will be in trouble next year if we lose Colo and dont replace him. we look a totally different team with him in. Wonder when Pardew will be hooked. 🙂 thank god for Boswinga

      (Quote)

  20. Having just watched that… We can thank our lucky stars there are clubs as bad as QPR because we were absolutely **** today again… If it weren’t for diabolical defending from Bosingwa we’d never have scored. Colo, Ben Arfa made huge difference with individual ability… As a team. We are aweful. But we are safe! Now please **** off Pards. And yes. I’d take Martinez over him any day.

  22. @Santii
Definitely, even if he still wants to head home the way he has handled himself during it has been incredible. I still think the scenario is the same as Jan and he won’t be able to leave.
Hopefully he stays another year which gives time from M’Biwa (who looks good at LB btw) to settle.

  23. Wow ❗ ❗
    Pure heart attack stuff.
Thank **** that puts this utter shyte season to bed.
Pardum full of **** yet again.
I really hope Wigan beat arsenal now. 😯

      (Quote)

  24. Could it be that the return of Collo was one of the steadying influences that ultimately got us over the line ?
The bottom line is, however brilliant the lad is, he is getting on, and needs to be ultimately replaced, even dicounting the fact that the lad may want to return home to Argentina. Maybe Mbwia really is the replacement for him, once he gets up to speed with the EPL. You cannot fault him for effort that’s for sure.

Pardew has a REAL job on his hands getting this lot to play anything approaching good football, because lets be honest, apart from the brilliant result we really were pish poor today.

      (Quote)

  25. Well that was damned nerve wracking in the second half! Their pen was not a pen, and Cisse level, again we could’ve been stuffed by a ref… Luckily QPR were even more ***** than us…

Can relax now but we need some serious banging of heads together for next season.

      (Quote)

  26. MM ,Agree ,huge relief to be a PL club still but my oh my we offer very little going forward ,Things simply have to be put right on that front and a overhaul of the coaching staff and medical and fitness guys would seem in order as well.

      (Quote)

  27. Well thank you, Mathematics. You kept our little side in the Prem for another season of agony, and made me feel a lot better about relinquishing my ST for economy reasons.

      (Quote)

  28. @BB&MM
    Pardew is a fucking horse.

I’m not actually sure what I mean by that, in terms of insult. But it sounded good.

We’ll draw against Arsenal anyway. And butter-wouldn’t-melt Pardew will live to see another season.

Get ready for another scrap, fellow Tooners.

    MID-TABLE MEDIOCRITY

  29. Geordie Deb – The web site I use in the States has changed and none of the games on 19th May are showing on the web site! I’ve e mailed them asking if they are planning showing them either live or after on video. Just waiting for a reply. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

  30. …suppose mid-table mediocrity is better than relegation-fodder.
    NICE ONE MIKE!

  31. Toby @393, agree, what an absolute clown! The way I look at referees is would they dare to continually penalise Man U the way he did to us today? He was criticized by Pardew after the first Brighton FA cup defeat 2 years ago and he has given us nothing since, I wasnt surprised that he did what he did today although very surprised he saw the shirt pull on Ben Arfa as he missed everything else they did.

      (Quote)

  32. OK so now Einstein says we are officilly safe, and the mackems realistically look good to go down, though they probably wont, I’d just like to say I wanted Pardew to stick the season out and give him time etc, but…..

Without wishing it upon him, in my view he has officially handed in his notice. Those dreadful capitulations against the scum and scousers illustrated his lack of depth in drilling a squad that can perform a utility game, use what skills you have, dig in, repel all boarders that sort of stuff. He may be a great manager with the full toolbox, but every Club needs one who can patch up a squad that gets hit by injuries and loss of form. Today was a bodged win, grateful though we were for it. glimpses of good things, plenty of the same old rubbish. He’s just not the guy. Sorry Alan, wanted it so bad for you, but so long and thanks for the Europa games.

      (Quote)

  33. Pardew said on Radio Toon that only on two occassions was he able to pick his best side. If he had been able to pick that side all season we would have been top six. Somebody should check his holdall for crack cocaine

  35. Robert, a fair result would’ve been 0-2.
    Neither were penalties.
    …and Cisse’s goal wasn’t offside either.

    …although MotD may prove otherwise.

    I couldn’t give a monkey’s uncle anyway.
We’re (almost) safe, I won 30 quid, and also drift off on tangents. Speaking of uncles, you should listen to this band:

Now i am kinda hoping Pards gets sacked before the end of the season and we can have a new man in before preseason starts

  42. well done the lads. great win for us although we seemed determined to gift them the win (debs and Elliot)

I’d love to hear a statement from the owner to clarify his thoughts and what we plan to do next yr coz we obviously need a cpl of strikers.

I’d love Wigan to win their next two games and the unwashed go down 😆

  43. Djeb would you not agree with me that if we had our best and most exciting player Benny all season we would be in the top 8 ?

what an elegant player he is …..only one thing pards is ok …when he say
“we not see what all he can do yet…”
    i trust him 1000% for that… 😀

      (Quote)

  49. Well we’ve got the points. The second half was hard to watch but Benny’s penalty was a beauty and Gouffran kept his cool and slotted it home. Pardew looked relieved but the owner didn’t look thrilled through the match. QPR are such a poor side! I can’t see Cisse as our main striker next season sorry to say. Just not strong enough on the ball. Brilliant away support from the Toon Army. Howay the lads!!!

      (Quote)

  50. Djeb then if you agree with me that we would be in the top 8 if we hd Benny for most of the season then that ays that injuries have had a big say in our season which Pards has touched on 😉

  51. This season is so weird that nearly all top football leagues winners all changing managers.

Just heard that Juventus Conte might be leaving, barcelona tito vilanova might be stepping down soon due to health issue.

Carlos of PSG might be leaving to RM.

Even Mourinho is leaving, Mancini, benitez.

As well as you know SAF of man utd retiring.

  54. Rooney hands in a transfer request 😯 , silly season is definitely going to be an interesting one 😀 .
Ideally I want Wigan to beat Arsenal and Villa, Sunderland to beat Spurs and us to beat Arsenal, with the other clubs just above us losing so we finish 10th and Villa go down. Think Fulham might be in the scrap as well so I want them to get a result to finish ahead of Villa. We can then poach some of Villa’s players ie Weiman…

  56. Aye Djebs9 @438 I’ve been very disappointed with Cisse all season. A new manager might get more out of him but we’re so thin up front. No strike options to speak of. I would give Gouffran another season and start using Campbell or loan him out. Ben Arfa makes a big difference if he has some space to attack. Jonas is finished I would think. He looks like his legs are gone. A decent performance from Willo at the back to support Colo. We were lucky to be playing QPR though.

  60. yes… cldarly i prefere sell cisse and comes remy…with goufran…i hope campbell playing 20 mn impact player all matches …he is a very very good young player..i saw him not very much but he s realy impress me… ❗
