Game On! Newcastle v Leeds

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
Newcastle take on Leeds at St James’ Park this evening with progression to the next round of the Capital One Cup on the agenda.

On paper Newcastle will be favourites to overturn Championship side Leeds United, but we were favourites on Saturday and have been numerous times against so-called “weaker” opposition in cup matches in recent years and quite often we’ve come out second best.

With Alan Pardew promising a strong side ahead of the game I’m hopeful that we can avoid such a scenario again but this is Newcastle United and you can never be sure if we’re going to turn up or not. Turning up would actually be a start and would give fans something to get behind and in my opinion we’re going to need more than one goal to win it in conventional time although I’m half expecting extra time and penalties to decide it.

The match preview is online and has been all day so if you haven’t already done so then please make your way to the previous article and have a look at a history of the fixture, some stats and facts and injury news for both sides.

Once again we’re not on the TV here in the UK but we are being broadcast overseas so chances of picking up a stream are high. Normal rules apply so if you happen to find a decent stream then please post a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

  1. Aye Rodzilla it’s better than nowt I guess, but still pissed off at AlJazeera when they show caption for channel as being toon game and its German munch vs hannover instead. Oh well.

  2. Pretty boring Andy Cisse has been **** poor yet again but scored a sitter provided by a great Sammy cross.

Dummett and Sammy the two stand out players so far.

  3. Santii, all good, healthy competition for places.
Still a bit light on the right like. Although Tavernier looked OK from what I’ve seen of him.

Dubai, life’s but a game of false promises. 😆

  4. Think Sammy-Dummett will be a better combo than Jose- Jonas. Santon might be able to take Debuchy’s RB position.

  5. Cisse just scored his 37th goal in 87 games for us.

    Fecking useless.

He’s so lucky the ball landed on his head. Because his timing of the run and placement of the header means nothing.

    🙄 😉

  6. Again sometimes I don’t know where is Debuchy is this right side. The players is alone with 10 min to centre.

  7. I reckon we’ve nailed it here like.

Pardew should take Cisse and Sammeobi off and bring on Mbiwa and Gosling. Play defensive. Pack the midfield. 4-6-0. In the bag. 😎

  8. Glad to hear Cisse scored. Maybe it will lift him. The cross was excellent. I have a poor stream so making do with that. Nice to be ahead at home. Let’s keep it that way.

  9. Did anyone just see tht Marveaux shot ? Fucking hell I wonder what is normal day job is ? Oh, I forgot, he’s a professional footballer 😳 😳 😳 😳

  10. Newkie @97,

I know, its crazy. Its almost like Cisse is crazy enough to realise that with his back to goal and four defenders behind him shooting in that situation would be a waste of time.

If he had taken a shot he would have been criticized for being selfish.

Sometimes I wonder if some people on here have ever played a game of football in their lives.

  11. Yeah, that’s right Marveaux…jockey, jockey, let him put the cross in. GET CLOSE AND PUT A TACKLE IN FFS 👿 👿

  12. JJ@106, I have played football all my life, and at a good level too. Are you insinuating that Cisse has been good the last 4 months ? 😉

  13. JJ-Yeah funny that he didn’t realise when he shot from 5 degrees and had both the keeper and a defender in front of him, rather than squaring the ball to a team mate.

Sometimes I wonder whether people support the side or just like bumming their favourite players. Guess its not surprising when some people also want us to lose on purpose to sack a manager 😆 😕

  14. What a rash challenge from Debuchy, could easily have caused a penalty

    Go on Goofy lad !!!!! 2-0 !!!!

  15. Clearly Gouffran is better than Cisse back of the goal.
He has more pace, better shoot and can play football. Next game I will put him upfront and Cisse in the bench.

  16. Dummett and Sammy linking up to create both goals 😛

Yeeooo Squidward coming on for Cisse who is worse 😛

  17. @MM
No, Cisse, hasn’t been anywhere near his best the last four months. But he’s still better than Shola by miles. So who would you rather be playing?

I have no problem when people are critical when he deserves it. But to complain when he scores because its a tap in, or complain when he doesn’t shoot and its the RIGHT decision is just ridiculous.

    Guy can’t win…

  18. As for Pardew,
    I still don’t think he’s good enough.

And those of you who are so disappointed by Cisse’s form and praising Gouffran should agree with me, because Cisse will play the next game and Gouffran will again be on the bench.
