It’s a knockout! Newcastle 0-2 Manchester City

City slickers
City slickers
Newcastle bowed out of the League Cup last night at the hands of Manchester City thanks to extra-time goals from Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko.

It was a game of fine margins and it could be argued that United deserved the win in 90 minutes, but that extra bit of quality that Manchester City possess proved decisive and ensured that United’s interest in the competiton ended at the last 16 stage.

This is not to say that United didn’t have their chances. Shola Ameobi, Vurnon Anita, Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse all wasted good chances with anoffside flag chalking off an effort from Shola in the first period, but it was always going to be a tough ask and despite giving it a go we just weren’t good enough despite matching City for large periods of the match.

Papiss Cisse twice wasted good chances for Newcastle in the first half as he lobbed the ball wide after Shola Ameobi flicked on Tim Krul’s kick before miscuing a shot from close-range. Shola Amoebi did find the net but, as mentioned earlier, was adjudged to have been offside before Vurnon Anita fired wide from the edge of the box. All Manchester City could really muster was a headed effort from Micah Richards which flew over the bar.

The second period wasn’t quite as industrious as the first but it was still United who should have drew first blood after Shola Ameobi cut inside and shot towards goal only to see his effort tipped wide by Costel Pantilimon who played in place of Joe Hart in goal from Manchester City.

For me though it was two substitutions which tipped the balance in favour of City. The introduction of David Silva gave the away some much needed creativity but on out part it was the introduction of Yohan Cabaye, or removal of Shola Ameobi whichever you prefer, that changed the game. With Shola, as much as he is maligned, we did have a presence up front and Papiss Cisse, despite his misfiring ways, was rarely left isolated but after Ameobi went off we found ourselves struggling in attack.

Extra time started and with came a glorious chance to take the lead after Hatem Ben Arfa lobbed a through ball to Papiss Cisse who timed his run perfectly and controlled the ball with his left foot before firing at the chest of Pantilimon. That miss proved costly as just a few minutes later Edin Dzeko waltzed down the left and squared the ball fro Alvaro Negrado to tap home.

At the end of the first period of extra time City put the game beyond doubt after David Silva and James Milner exchanged passes on the edge of the area with the former Magpie feeding the ball through to Edin Dzeko who rounded Tim Krul and had the easy task of slotting into the back of an unguarded net.

United were out, but they still came close to grabbing a consolation through Hatem Ben Arfa who saw his volley cleared off the line by Joleon Lescott.

Simply put we just weren’t good enough. We tried and created chances but were unable to finish them and that will cost you against the top teams who have the ability to punish you. City did just that. It’s all well and good having the best chances but you need to finish them to win games.

Howay the lads!

  1. At least it was City that knocked us out and not bloody Brighton!.
We played well enough over 90mins – without that player to put it in the back of the net. But extra time City just turned it up and knew that pens was a risk for them.
Said it last night, we will struggle to win many games this season with the offensive options we have at the moment and their current poor form.

  2. Even if we’d have got through last night the odds were stacked. Yeah we’d have technically got Leicester but look at the rest of the draw. All the big guns avoided each other so will more than likely progress. Mind you you’ve got to be in it to win it. At least the club are happy we’re out 🙄

      (Quote)

  3. Well, we played against City’s reserve team who were playing in second gear.. still couldnt win 😉

  4. Anyway if you see and left hand drive coaches from my company tonight give a wide berth as I’ll be driving one (which I’ve not really done before) heading to Germany (which I’ve never been to before) so should be fun 😆

  5. It doesnt matter what level you play at, if you dont score when you are on top and creating chances, you will get punished. Ive seen it with the games ive played and even with my under 9s, with every miss, you just know the chances of the other team scoring on their first attempt increase. You can see it coming…

ps Im sure KK will rebuke that as it may not happen on football manager 😆

  6. good analysis toonsy.

We should of won in the 90mins if we had players that could finish.
Missed chances, game over when City brought on their 1st teamers.

    Unlucky in a way..

They need to forget about it and get ready for Saturday lunchtime.. 😯

  7. Finnbogason – £5m – 13 goals 4 assists in 11 games.

    Bafe Gomis – £4m – 2 goals 0 assists in 9 games – but most subs I believe.

    Danny Ings – £4m – 12 goals 6 assists in 18 games.

Shane Long – £2m – 0 goals 0 assists – but all sub appearances late in the game.

Tom Ince – £4m (plus Gosling maybe) – 6 goals 2 assists in 13 games.

Ola Tiovonen – £2m – 1 goal 2 assists in 16 games. Not great but has 59 goals in 125 games at PSV so worth the money I’d reckon.

There’s 6 attacking options we could go after in Jan totalling around £20m. I’m not suggesting we go for all of them but say 2 with Remy being taken on full time and we still haven’t broke the bank like.
We desperately need goal scorers and creative midfielders IMO. Cabaye and Remy are good, but they can’t do it all on their own.

      (Quote)

  8. Toonsy – whereabouts in Jan are you going mate?. Just wondering if you’re going anyway near Munich you could maybe kidnap Pep and acouple of his players 😆

  9. @SHARPY17

it was only a few month ago you thought we would sign Bent, Remy and Gomis..

If we are struggling near the bottom we might panic-buy again but I see Shola being a perennial figure and an out-of-form Cisse.

Mike is hurting because of the criticism, he does bad things to us when hes upset.. 🙄

      (Quote)

  10. Shame about the result but at least some dignity was restored over 90 mins. Having said that if Toure and Silva had started it may have been 6.
Cisse is now a total waste of space. He makes Shola look like Messi.

      (Quote)

  11. Sharpy – To Koln mate so not close enough. Like I say I only have half a clue where I’m going anyway so I may end up near Munich 😆

Rich – Watch out because we’ll be coming to Spain soon 😉

      (Quote)

  12. Mark – Bent has 3 goals 0 assists in 10 games. Cisse has 1 goal 3 assists in 9 games.

Personally I’d like to see us sign Finnbogason, Ince and Tiovonen from that list. But that’s gonna cost £10-12m. If Remy will cost £6-8m to sign then I don’t see us laying that much out like. Especially as a clear out of Obertan, Shola, Gosling, Marv and whoever else isn’t going to bring in any real money.

  13. Toonsy – Ice has been on only very fitfully lately. He’s very pissed off with the state of the club like most of us. How’s the little un?

  14. TOONSY ime always about mate 😉 just too down in the gob with the way the club is going lately, spoke to batty on f/b couple of times hes busy busy man at the mo,takes time copying those new tops you know 😀 😀

      (Quote)

  15. Sharpy – you’re a big fan of ince. Is he any better than Zaha? CC player of the season who can’t get a game at Manu. There’s a lot of players look good at that level. Risky for me. I want proven class or nowt.

      (Quote)

  16. GEORGIO@22,ime with you all the way on that but one big problem with that it called jabba, you have to pay for class,he likes to scrape round the bins for hopefuls and maybes 🙁

      (Quote)

  17. Richie-why you talk so much sense @ 226 i bro? Don’t you know basic stuff like any team can beat City-even Cardiff? And if we beat Cardiff, it’s because they’re only Cardiff and have **** players. But Pardew is **** because those **** Cardiff players play like a team with spirit and can go out and beat anyone, even City! Except us, because they are **** obviously and we should be looking to take them and their level apart every game. And who cares if City spend 25 mil on reserves while we spend 25p? Any manager worth his salt would have improved our ressies to their level by now.Wait what? I’m confused again 😳

Could it be people are taking off their glasses with Cisse? Not to go on about it but he’s the same footballer he was when he arrived. He still couldn’t run, pass or dribble with a football and nor could he make his own chances (vital for a real striker) or score easy goals. He does however have a tendency to score some of the most unbelievable goals imaginable.

Unfortunately we lost our only consistent finishers and those who could make their own chance in Best and Ba. Appalling moves by the club in regards to each case.

      (Quote)

  18. Georgio – he’d be better in the sense that he’d be our player for a start!. I don’t like this loaning PL players crack, it’s a short term fix and Bolton loaned Sturridge and Wilshire who have went on to be top players, but did it help Bolton?.

I think Ince is a very good player baring in mind he’s still only 21. The kid can score goals and create goals, is quick and has a good footballing brain on his young shoulders. If we can get him for £4m, then I think that’s a steal and he’d certainly add value if Zaha was bought for £15m or whatever it was.
If we get Ince for £4m, that would be £1m more than we paid for Obertan – and Ince is head and shoulders a better player.

I’m not head of the Ince fan club or anything like that mate. I just think he’s a good young English option, at a half decent price.

      (Quote)

  19. Georgio/Ice – don’t get me wrong!. I’d far sooner we be signing players like Belhanda or Remy Cabella but those boys would cost £15-20m I’d think and want huge wages.
Under Ashley, that simply won’t happen. So knowing that I am considering the best of the bargains if you like. Players who (IMO) are better than what we currently have.

      (Quote)

  20. SHARPY do you honestly think any players we bring in will improve the team while we have a nugget like pardew in charge as i think the puppet is out of his depth in the PL imo

      (Quote)

  21. Sharpy@25-Not gunna lie mate, sometimes I think you are Paul Ince himself or just Tom’s agent the way you trumpet his name 😀

      (Quote)

  22. Ice – replacing our weak players with better ones surely can’t be a bad thing, regardless of who’s in charge. I understand your point, and agree that it the poor players need replacing then so does the poor manager and coaches. But I’m not sure that’s gonna happen any time soon. But when it does, I’d like the new manager to have the best possible squad rather than saying, well team will be **** under Pardew so why bother

      (Quote)

  23. @GEORGIO

Sharpy was the only one harping on about Townsend when he was at QPR. I questioned whether he was good enough given he was playing lower league.. i question him no more 😆

      (Quote)

  24. luckily Fulham beat us to Bent. Pardew admitted he was defo interested in him. 😯 Perhaps had we signed him, Pardew would of been sacked by now..lol

  26. Absolutely disgusted in Pardew last night! If we had played a full strength side we’d have won that game as they were ****!

See Pardew losing his job after defeats to Chelsea and Spurs and god knows where we go from there.

    Ashley out!

  28. What was the FOOL thinking of when he replaced Ameobi with Cabaye, this left Cisse upfront on his own and totally isolated.
Remy should have been brought on!!!!
Shocking negative tactics yet again, he has to go.
Thought Anita had a very tidy game and should play on Saturday, but we know he wont.

      (Quote)

  29. Its a shame really that Shola ran out of steam, He was on one of his increasingly rare good days and i fancy we might have nicked it if hed lasted the 90.

Cisse needs one to bounce in off his **** and hell be ok, He shouldnt have been dropped after scoring against Leeds it broke up any chance of him getting on a run again.

Seen us play far worse so im not going to slag the lads but sadly their reserves are stronger than at least a dozen premier league clubs and it wasnt enough…

      (Quote)

  30. It seems I was right all of last season when I said Cisse was ****. I feel vindicated by the those who debated me otherwise calling me all sorts of names and now all agree.

I will take your concurrences as a tacit apology.

  31. Havent we been here before, waiting for a flukey, in of the ****, goal to get cisse up and running? Poor.

The whole set up is poor. I am going to put in a word with Parish and make sure he takes Pardew. I want him out now. Fed up with it all and I am not starting to lose the passion I have for the club. I can feel it slowly seeping out of me and that is such a depressing thought as I have tried to be upbeat and champion the club etc.

      (Quote)

  32. Cisse has lost his way thanks to pardew bowing to demba Ba’s constant moaning, Who in the right mind would change a system that suited the whole team and had a striker banging in 13 goals in 14 matches to keep someone who wanted to leave and hadnt scored in 6 months happy ??

Ludicrous inept management and pretty much should and would have had him out of a job if it wasnt for the club wanting to save face after giving him an fucking 8 year fucking contract…

  34. Sorry its so long but this is a great open letter from George Caulkin to Ashley and definitely worth a read.

    Dear Newcastle United,

    Regarding the following matters:

    • The failure of the present owner to conduct due diligence before purchasing the club
    • The appointment of Dennis Wise as executive director (football)
    • The treatment of figures such as Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer
    • The appointment of Joe Kinnear as manager
    • Relegation
    • The dismissal of Chris Hughton
    • The renaming of St James’ Park
    • The appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football
    • The sponsorship agreement with Wonga, the payday lenders
    • The banning of three local newspapers

I write in reference to the above incidents which have taken place in your name during the ownership of one man, who operates under the name of Mike Ashley.

It is quite frankly staggering that you have devoted even a single letter of complaint to The Evening Chronicle, The Journal and The Sunday Sun about any aspect of their coverage of Newcastle, given the catalogue of mismanagement and error listed here. Even if there was merit in your argument about the reporting of the Time4Change march, which took place on Saturday 19 October and was attended by several hundred Newcastle fans, it is your response which is disproportionate.

You should be in no doubt as to the disappointment and dismay that decisions such as this generate, how bonds are stretched, how it sometimes feels like a club is being corroded from the inside, even if this dismay is not always expressed in a uniform, collective manner.

Some people demonstrate, some people moan in the pub, some people stop attending matches and more people keep going but, over time, pride and identities are chipped away. This is not a reality you can measure at the cash till of the club shop, but it is a reality nonetheless.

Indeed after reviewing all of the above episodes and in particular – well, no, just all of it, really – it is my opinion that if there is any underlying message of encouragement and support to marchers, it is provided by Mike Ashley himself.

I feel strongly that the turnout of the march has caused you to tie yourselves in knots. the Chronicle and its sister titles will fight their own battles, but since when is wanting better for the club and, by extension, the reporting of that desire, “an anti-Newcastle United stance”?

Page after page is devoted to Newcastle in the local press, positive and negative, trivial and substantive, and, yes, that is partially due to sales, but it is also an indication of the club’s power and potential to be a beacon of the city. Too often, it is not.

I remember from my time at Thomson House – I’m proud that’s where my career started, by the way, doubly so this week – that what really drives sales is Newcastle victories. Winning games of football. It is just a thought, but you could always give that a go.

There are times when it is quite easy to believe that it is Mr Ashley’s stance which is anti-Newcastle. Fair and balanced? He has an open invitation to explain and argue; Derek Llambias did it, finally, and although it did not prevent some uncomfortable decisions, he did, at least, provide some context.

It is true, of course, that the cub does some fantastic work. The Foundation is wonderful, reaching into the community and using football as an instrument of improvement, lifting heads. I’ve seen what happens when Hatem Ben Arfa walks into a classroom, when Papiss Demba Cisse hands out football shirts, when Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi visit Sir Bobby Robson’s old school in Langley Park, how faces come alive, how kids find a way of engaging that did not seem possible before.

And there are some great people at St James’ Park, too, who are desperate to do the right thing, who strive to engage with fans and improve things for them. But while those baby-steps are positive and crucial, when the contentious moments arrive they fall into place behind a long line of others. Reciprocal ticket pricing and season-ticket deals are innovative and welcome, particularly during a recession, but they do not heal fracture, not all in one go. They do not make sense of the insensible.

In spite of your letter stating that the latest media ban – there have been plenty before – was a “unanimous decision”, I’m aware of individuals at the club who say they opposed it and yet, in the final analysis, their opinion has not counted.

Something similar applies to the recruitment of Kinnear – it was a done deal, no consultation, let the chips fall and let everybody get on with it. What Mr Ashley wants, he gets. Does anybody stand up to him?

I’ll relay a quick story. Over the summer I was asked by you, Newcastle, not to write something. This does not take place very often, but it happens. Just as journalists make mistakes but have sub-editors to correct grammar or statistics or tinker with the style or content of copy, so managers, players or directors can misspeak in interviews.

I can understand that (I like to make at least one error in absolutely everything I file). What I was asked not to write were words of PRAISE from one employee of the club about another because, I was told, Mr Ashley would be furious about reading such praise.

I wasn’t going to use it anyway, because it was an irrelevance – the wider picture then was Kinnear’s arrival and the instability it provoked – but the events of this week have reminded me of just how dysfunctional this football club can be. And how we have all come to view it as normal.

Having given due consideration to the above, I have reached a decision. I realise how fortunate I am to do the job I do, I know I have a cushy lifestyle and the access I get to media facilities, press conferences and player interviews makes things easy.

I value relationships, too. I’ve always thought that getting to know people, building contacts, is the most important part of the job, because that’s how you find out what’s going on, and it’s the bit I enjoy most. I like telling stories and find that more fascinating than tactics or whatever else.

I believe that stripping cliches away from the North East is part of my job, whether it is written in my contract or not, as is being fair and honest, as I hope you’d recognise, but banning three local newspapers strikes at the heart of what I believe in. It strikes at me and every other journalist. It strikes at fans.

A side-effect of that ban and one of the most ridiculous things about it is that, by implementing it, you have ensured far more publicity for the Time4Change message than they generated themselves or the Chronicle might have generated for them. Your access is appreciated and I’ll take it for as long as you offer it, but it does not guarantee you anything other than honesty and a fair hearing.

Anyway, that decision. Last time, I attended the march as a journalist. A few members of the bedsheet-brigade turned up, but that’s fair enough – every club has their share of daft lads and Newcastle shouldn’t be defined by theirs – and while the numbers were relatively modest, the mood was positive and peaceful.

As always, it was heartening to hear people speak with passion about their club and even if the situation can appear futile, their message was valid: there is always a point in wishing for something more.

Next time – if there is a next time – I’ll attend the march as a human being, full stop. Not because I’ve got an anti-Newcastle agenda, not because I’ve got an anti-Mike Ashley agenda – you’ll get the same treatment as always – but because, as someone who lives in the city, who is proud to call the North East his home, who cares about the club and wants it to excel, it should be better. Better than this.

My position on this issue is pretty firm but hey, it’s always nice to chat.

    Yours sincerely,

    George

  40. CC@41-To be fair, Cisse was out at the start of the season, Ba played up top and was playing well and getting goals. The real question is why did he drop Ba to the bench in favour of an out of form Cisse, only to then bring him on and get the 2 goals to get us the draw at Everton.

Ba was cack in the second half of the season while he was out on the wing, although much better than Cisse there, surely you’d want to get the best out of all your players and not just Cisse?

      (Quote)

  41. @CC
Always think that’s a strange defence of Cisse.
Ba was scoring goals in abundance then was shifted over to the wing for half a year (unlike Cisse for a few games), he was eventually moved back up top and carried on scoring.
The only person to blame for going SO many games without scoring, is Cisse himself.

      (Quote)

  42. Aussie@44-that’s how I feel as well mate. Although I did enjoy the championship, it seemed we could forget about bigger worries, **** players and we were winning pretty much every weekend  Mainly it was nice to have Carroll coming through the ranks and scoring for us, but that didn’t exactly end well.

As you say, I think the football has been the same for the last 10 years or so, the team and managers change but the standard of football and the criticisms of it remain.

Just wish I could be a billionaire, i’d sort it all out 😥

      (Quote)

  43. Solano@50-Exactly. But whenever you start making good points you get accused of being Anti Cisse or Anti Newcastle and told to go and support Ba at Chelsea or something 🙄

People will argue back and forth who is better, I just think it was easier to play as a team with Ba because you knew what you were going to get and that he would score the half chances or full chances but wouldn’t come out with worldies.

      (Quote)

  44. Newkie, I must admit I enjoyed the championship season too, maybe because we were winning lots of games  We have been so ordinary for so long, I am kind of numb to it all.. I try not to look for scapegoats everytime something bad happens..
I do find the media ban anger a little funny tho.. most fans think the papers are rubbish and print **** and yet when Ashley bans one, fans get angry about it 😆

      (Quote)

  45. Ba has been gone for near on 10 months now, so can that excuse still be wealed out for Cisse’s gash performances?

The facts are we should play the best 11, not try and cram the best players into a team. We cant because Pardews a joker.

Sorry but the lack of form of so many players cant be just down to them not wanting to try or giving a rats crack, the manager needs to motivate and pick them up. Thats what he gets paid an awful lot to do. He isnt doing it. He should have the balls to drop players. He doesnt. He needs a plan B. He doesnt. He needs to stand up to them owners and his boss to fight for his team and for himself. He doesnt.

  46. Our squad is really crying out for two attack minded players with pace. Outside of that the lads have done alright. Will Ashley spend to get them in January is the question.

  47. Aussie-Yeah, it’s interesting how what’s wrong with the side often doesn’t stick and it will slide about until it all latches on to one thing. Simmo and Wilo dragging down a 9 CL quality players and the like, turns out its John Carver! 😆 I feel like I’ve had to defend almost everyone of our players over the years.

It was quite funny. “That Ryder only writes **** and bums Ashley, wish he would **** off” WHAT- LEE RYDER CAN’T WRITE WHAT HE WANTS ANYMORE!! ❗ ❓

    Still, ridonculous decision.

We defo should have went for Townsend in the summer but I think we’d have opted to loan him when he should have bought him. I suggested Sigurdsson as well and he’s had a great start to the season as well . I may be wrong about Ince, but I don’t think so and he seems to have a good work ethic.
    We need something though.

  51. @richietoon – 226 (from the previous post)

Man City did play poorly, they were in “2nd gear”. Then, as predicted at halftime, they upped their game for 5mins & scored 2 goals.

It’s not like we got at them, we didn’t pressure them or press them when they had the ball. We had 2 decent periods during the game. The first 5-10 mins after halftime & 10mins before the end of extra time.

Surely you don’t actually believe we nullified man city & stopped them playing??

Both teams looked barely interested – perhaps because they played on sunday?

When we play poorly it is down to Pard’s, he’s the manager, it his job ffs.

The player’s get blamed too when they deserve it. It’s not like we’re stupid. I don’t see many people defending cisse.

  53. Sharpy – I too was impressed with Townshend at QPR. Just as I was with another Spurs midfielder everyone wanted who’s now at Portsmouth. Ince might be a good one but I’ve barely seen him play. What we need is no more mights. I said in the summer we need 2 or 3 real class players and we’d have a great squad. It would have cost £20 -£30m. About the same as Norwich and Saints spent. But oh no not us – Pardew’s happy with his squad. Is Joe still on his holidays?

Pardew is useless. 4 or 5 squad members are useless and us the fans are quickly becoming useless.

  54. Georgio I think fans have become more realistic to the fact if we win any game it’s a bonus. Can’t blame them because they’ve had very little to celebrate over the years. Now it’s premier league safety and winning nothing. It will be very long time till we qualify for europe again or win a cup but Ashley has no ambition so why should the fans ? Like the poor fans haven’t suffered enough then Ashley ***** on them again. My only hope is the fat greedy **** gets his loan money back ( The sooner the better and sales up). Sunderland, City, Chelsea and Spurs all defeats for me, anything else is a bonus

  55. On the bright side at least we are still in the premiership but conference could go down hill after four defeats. Cabaye wanting to leave in january again and players not wanting to sign new contracts is becoming a reality at Newcastle but only my opinion and I hope i’m wrong.

  56. Don’t get down in the mouth ice mate. Come on here and we’ll cheer you up. We have many interesting stories to tell don’t we lads and lasses? Well…… who wants to begin?

  57. Georgio – would I prefer us to sign players like Belhanda in midfield or Bony up front?, of course I would!. But the reality is that under Ashley we aren’t gonna spend big money on an individual player and that’s a fact we have to live with.
The reality is that regardless of how much we spend on a player – they are all ‘mights’ when they move. Torres was proven PL and had big money spent on him, but hasn’t fit the Chelsea way of playing. Whereas Michu cost £2m and has been a huge success!.

Spurs bought Bale from a lowly Saints back then with little to no guarantees. Likewise Arsenal bought Arron Ramsey from a lowly Cardiff – both players cost more than the £4m which is being suggested would buy Ince.
But as I’ve already said, the fact is that Ince is far better than Obertan already, so would immediate be back up to Benny on that right flank IMO.

  59. Happy Halloween lads ,not been on as couldn’t use the pc as had a very bad virus on it since Tuesday night , happily fixed by the pc tech guy today 😀 Bloody thing hijacked my browsers couldn’t get on any sites at all . Anyway watched the game last night and was left more frustrated than anything else. Thought we played better than them 1st half less so 2nd ,now I know it was more or less their reserve team but even their reserve team is better than a lot of PL teams. Could not believe Cisse didn’t score at the start of ex time, not sure if it was a great save or awful miss tbh. We had so many chances to win or at least get a goal or two but once again were impotent up front ,we simply have to get a top notch striker in jan ,we can’t go on like this. I’m a big Cisse fan you all know that but boy he looks all at seat the moment poor sod. Wilo had a good game ,Mbiwa looked better , apart from the goal and Anita looked class . Debbie had another great game ,good for him . I thought we did well in the 50-50 battles for the first 90 ,we just ran out of steam really and Silva made a lot of difference for City.

Re -George Caulkins letter to NUFC , really well written and I totally agree with all of it though most likely the Times is now gonna get a ban from SJP 🙄

  60. @NEWKIE

I’ve always loved you newkie but sometimes i just need to show some tough love to stay cool 😎

I do have a question though. What do you what Ashley & Kinnear to do at the club (realistically)?

We know that the club pay attention to what the fans have to say. If it’s something sensible & enough people call for it, i would expect Ashley & Co to make the necessary changes.

A lot of people seem to lose sight of the fact that Mike Ashley has more staked on the club than every other fan put together. His interest & our interest are the same.

  61. KK, Newkie is a good sensible lad who knows his footy. He knows we can’t expect much from Ashley who is far too sensitive to own a football club. Banning the media is just petty and silly. He needs to sell up.

  62. KK – I know that post was directed at Newkie, but I have to disagree with it completely.
Ashleys interest is financial – full stop. He’s already said that the cup doesn’t interest him as it is not financial worth the effort.
He may have more at stake financial but he could sell the club at any time – and in any state!.

If we get relegated and he decides to sell the club at a £100m loss, all he has to do is sell another 2.7% of his shares in SD to make that loss up and he’s made up that loss – and remains major share holder of SD. Whilst us fans face another season in the Championship – and what if next time we don’t get out?.

You ask what would we expect from Ashley and Kinnaer – how about a manager and coaching staff that can put together a team that competes on a consistent basis?. I’m not saying win coz that would be unrealistic, but one week we look solid and turn in a good performance, then the next week we look dog ****.
How about regular investment in new players?. I’m not talking £30m every window or 14 new players in coz that’s unrealistic – but certainly to address the areas that need improvement.
How about a better line of communication from the club?. I’m not asking Ashley or Joe to invite us in for tea coz that’s unrealistic, but it would be a lot better than it is!.
What about charging SD for advertising? The company is turning huge profit so I don’t think that’s unrealistic.
What about advertising the Bobby Robson Foundation?, either instead of Wonga or on the training kit, I don’t think that is unrealistic.
What about Joe keeping his trap shout and stop keep insulting fans and players alike? ….. hold on, that’s a totally unrealistic request!.

  63. Sorry, I’ve just read some of that back and it doesn’t make sense in place – was busy making the boys tea and got side tracked. But you get the general jist

  64. Ok let’s get down to the really hard nuggets. We have an owner who has been offended by some statements made. I may have said a few slightly insulting and embarrassing things along with others. But that’s no reason for the owner to act up is it? He’s a mature man after all isn’t he? Surely we can come to some sort of agreement? Such as he sells the club and we leave him alone?
