Game On! Newcastle v Cardiff – FA Cup 3rd Round

The FA Cup.

The FA Cup.
Up for a cup?
Good afternoon all, and welcome to this special ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the start of what is hopefully a decent stab at trying to win some silverware.

The visitors today are Cardiff City who will travel to the North-East with their 300 fans in tow hoping for a first win for new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in this FA Cup 3rd round encounter.

However United will want to progress themselves and although the domestic cups are “not a priority” according to the hierarchy at the club, I do feel that at pitch level those words are lost and that the manager and players want to be professional and try to win a trophy. After all, that is the point in football isn’t it?

The early team news is that Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy will definitely miss the match through injury and suspension whilst Tim Krul is doubtful. Official team news will be published shortly after 2pm and can be found at the bottom of this article but in the meantime why not head over to the match preview and immerse yourself in some history of the fixture along with aforementioned injury news and some possibly inane rambling from myself.

The bad news is that there are a lot of games today and ours isn’t exactly top of the bill and so isn’t being advertised as being broadcast anywhere here in the UK or overseas. However there is still a slim chance that there may be a stream available so if anyone does find one then please feel free to leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

It just feels to me as though the FA Cup has been devalued somewhat in recent years. It used to be THE cup to go for but at the end of the day I guess money talks and the serious money is no longer in the domestic cup competitions.

However as I said in my preview, we are surely ideally placed to have a go at bringing the fans some success? We aren’t going to get relegated and we aren’t going to finish much, if any, higher than we are now in the league so why not go for it. With some intent and a bit of luck why can’t we go far?

Howay the lads!

  1. Those text commentaries seem to be confusing Mbiwa with M’bia.

  2. Axel-they’ve stuck with him this long, I don’t think Randyman would sack him now, not unless their prem form really goes to pot.

  3. Wait, misread the thing about Villa–they’re still only a goal down.

  7. This is ****, there may as well not be a game on. Text updates feel like a video game and I’m pretty sure SSN has only mentioned our game once. FFS they’re spending their whole time discussing the lower league v lower league games.

  8. Very funny Richie 🙄 . Annoying cus I can listen to BBC Newcastle until a match starts then it cuts me off.

  9. Axel
    It’s **** isn’t it.
    Kim
Yeah it’s really poor, what’s the point of doing that? To encourage people to move to NE England, cus it’s not working it’s just irritating.

  10. Cisse offside is having an absolute shocker. He isn’t alone mind you. Centre midfield offering nothing in attack. Ben Arfa the shining light

  11. I see the Cisse bashing has begun. Even though the match isn’t even televised. 🙄

To me it seems like we’ve created nothing for him apart from Ben Arfa’s usual long range stuff.

Does anyone know if we’re playing 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1?

Would have liked to see Marv. Clearly he’s not going to play another game under Pards. So no creative player in midfield.

  12. Andy too right its **** unbelievable its effing 2014 and no radio link let alone Video link . I hate this only watching text

  13. Toby,
I wouldnt praise Ben Arfa too much either. There’s a good chance he’s doing his usual and only playing for himself. So of course he’s going to have the odd shot.
As long as he doesn’t score he’s just as ineffectual creatively than anyone else.

Hope Pards has Shola on the bench so he can revert to his plan B. Donk ball.

  14. Andy…Nowt the radio station can do, contractually they’ll only be allowed to broadcast the matches in the local area unfortunately.

  15. By reading the text on BBc i would say pards has given them a rollicking at halftime we are starting to put pressure on them .

  16. Yeah it’s a pain in the **** Axel
    Richie
I suppose but it seems bizarre considering it doesn’t seem to have a point if you can listen to the station except if theres a match on.

  17. I predicted we’d play **** today. Without Cabaye our team has no heartbeat. Tiote gets a bit lost and we have no creativity.

Apart from Ben Arfa who only normally creates chances for himself.

At least our defense seems solid enough.

  18. Andy…For the everyday radio it’s up to the radio station who can receive it and whether to broadcast it online so they do but for the football it’s the FA and Premier League who make the rules and so won’t let them do it online, **** for us but there it is 😥

  19. sounds like a poacher goal–not much time to think, just instinctive finish?

  20. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh!

  21. Cardiff have won 1 game away all season to an extremely poor Fulham, looks like we’re giving them the 2nd away win

  22. Kim,
Predictable. Shola on so we can pump long balls into their goal area.

Pardew hasn’t got a fucking clue.

Glad for Cisse. Another goal. Should be three for him so far this season. Bet he didn’t have too many chances made for him either.
